Quickie card – I heart you

I have some new CraftsUPrint cutfiles, a tonne of new stamps and dies and … oh dear.. it’s been a busy month… for shopping haha.  I have a huge basket of goodies to  play with … and not enough time to play with them all.. but I am sure gonna try..and my son seems to have been bit with the crafty bug bad this month..so I shall be in good company.

So going to start off our mega marathon of craftiness with a quickie card featuring a super quick and cute cut file and a Satuarate Canary stamp I picked up in my first.. yes I said first batch of stamps I grabbed from LDRS Creative this past week (see previous post).  I loved the ones I got so much…I went back for more.   At $1 a pop on clearance, there is no way I wasn’t taking good advantage of this sale …. the stamps are fabulous. I found some long searched for scenic stamps which I can’t wait to play with.  This was my first time shopping with LDRS and I have to say I am impressed.

Ok so here she is.. this is Alice, supplies list is super simple and listed below.

Card base is 110lb Georgia Pacific card and was cut on the Cricut Explore using a CraftsUPrint cut file by Apetroae Stefan  called OVER THE EDGE HEART BORDER CARD

Insert is Black Recollections Value pack 65lb card, contrasts great through the cut outs
Black layer is also Black 65lb Recollections card
Image was stamped on Canson Mix Media using black Stazon Ink and colored with Chameleon Pens

… both layers were given a shabby cut, I have an old cutter that  does this to the paper/card if you only cut one layer and I love it, because I suck at paper tearing/ripping  but like the shabby edge look for some projects…so this is my compromise.

I used Zig Photo Tape runner adhesive to attach my layers.

Spotlight Series Day 27, Sarah – StarStampz

Who are you ? Sarah, though I can go by Star online and with friends. My website / art studio is “StarInMyPocket,” a line a liked from a poem I wrote when I was young. My usual username online is StarMasayume (Masayume meaning ‘dream’s come true’ which I added so I had a name ID that is always available..)

Where are you ? In a land of sunshine (aka Florida)

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously? I doodled most of my life and for my “career” cube in 6th grade I chose artist which I discarded after as being unreleastic lol. When I was 12 I got a spark after discovering the anime Sailor Moon and would copy paused scenes on my VHS recordings, followed by finding Naoko’s gorgeous manga illustrations online and copying those. I stopped drawing for nearly 2 years feeling I was only good at copying, but my interest renewed another 2 years later after discovering digital art and oekaki board communities online. It was hook line and sinker from there!

starbookelf

The Book Elf

What was the first product you ever had for sale? I’m not even sure. I began selling art prints and stickers at a convention in 2005. Years later I began putting my art items on Etsy, everything from keychains and buttons to sketchbooks and bookmarks. I opened my digital stamp store (Star Stampz) more recently but uploaded a number of them at once. “The Book Elf” is among my older arts

When was your last REAL vacation and where did you go? Not far but recently went to Disney to celebrate my 30th birthday as I hadn’t been there since I was 4 and always wanted to go back. I figured if I was going to turn the big 3-0 might as well do it with my BF, her husband, and my fiance where my inner kid could gush freely.

What’s your favorite horror movie? So I am NOT a huge fan of horror genre, but there’s one Japanese movie I love enough to rewatch many times. Hansel and Gretel, a korean horror movie with a creepy “Coraline” feel. A young man crashes his car, getting lost and trapped in the woods where a family lives and the children aren’t what they seem. Their sweet cottage and toys alone give you the eebie jeebies but the plot twists are great and I like the twisted fairy tale aspect.

Princesses Collection

Princesses Collection

What is your favorite piece in the whole store? There’s many I’m fond of for different reasons which makes it so hard to choose. I will go with my princess set though as I LOVE fairy tales and Disney.

Name your favorite cartoon? Sailor Moon? I love it enough to put themes of it in my wedding after all lol. Though if we’re going for a list… that would get very very long. You can check out myanimelist profile for all my favorites.

What  job did you have BEFORE you started  drawing/designing for a living?
Waldenbooks (I think half of my paycheck went there), followed by caricature artist at Busch Gardens, SEO/graphic design at a local startup web design company, and assistant for a successful invitation business by an entrapreneuring mom. This is my first year I’m solely freelancing which I was nervous but excited about.

What was your favorite subject in school…? English. If I didn’t get so hooked into art I would be writing books. Instead, I just have a lot of unfinished fanfiction.  =P

Alice Chibi

Alice Chibi

What is your most popular item in the store/shop? Definitely my Alice Chibi digital stamp

If you got locked in an elevator for 6 hours.. who would you most like to be locked in with ? Does a book count???

starcrush

Who was your first celebrity crush…and have you drawn them? It took me until my twenties, but I fell in love with Mate Kamaras after seeing him as Death in the German musical “Elisabeth.” He’s gorgeous with a beautiful sexy singing voice and not to mention trilingual and also played the same role in Japan (in which he reminds me of Jareth from the Labyrinth which I have no problem with).  If you enjoy musicals, do yourself a favor and  youtube it! And yes I have drawn him…  Elisabeth The Last Dance Art Print

How long have you been in business? I’ve had business cards to my art website since I was 14? lol People would see me sketching everywhere so I would hand them out. I’d say 2005 as for how long I’ve been actually selling my art. Jacon, one of my favorite conventions, chose my art for their light/darkness theme on the con guides and badges so I got a free dealer’s table which was awesome and really the start of it all.

How long does the average design/art work take from concept to final product?  For full digitally painted art, anywhere from a day or two to weeks sometimes months if I put something aside and pick at it.

starzview

When you are working, what is the view from your window like? I love the backyard view from my two story window! <3 I’m so going to miss it if/when I move. It looks awesome when it’s raining.

What’s the one song guaranteed to have you shaking your booty anytime, anyplace ..anywhere? I have a tie for two currently…  Boku ni Invitation (from the anime Polar Bear Cafe) and You’ll Be Back (a broadway song… just look up Hawk Moth’s Ballad on youtube lol)

What do you love most about all the people you meet through your work? Connecting with people all around the world and those with similar loves and interests. I was always the shy loner in school as a kid but art has helped me meet so many great friends and people so I feel really blessed by it. <3 Sometimes the people I meet suggest or introduce me to new things which is also great.

Which drawing/product are you the most proud of in your collection? “Alice in Wonderland” from StarInMyPocket  from my ink / digital stamps “Maiko in Spring”

Where are you ?

I am Maltese and live in Malta which is a little island in the Mediterranean

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously?

What is your favorite piece in the whole store?

I think I would go for the latest which is Little Red Riding Hood

LittleRed_watermark_sm

Who is your inspiration/muse?

Oh this is a tough one! I think inspiration is something ongoing and sometimes little things tend to inspire me without really thinking much about it. These are things that at one point come in the foreground! I am also inspired by many different artists but surprisingly sometimes it is not even their style of work that inspires me but the fact that I see them practicing their art. This instils in me a longing to work on my own art. Then there are also many art styles such as manga art, pop surrealism, and art nouveau which I really feel that I am attracted to.

How many people work with/for you ?

I don’t have other people working with me but I’m very grateful that my husband takes care of the technical side of Penny Blossom…I send him a big thanks 🙂

Name your favorite cartoon?

Anything Disney!

Favorite quote?

Life is like a garden, you reap what you sow.

What’s your guilty pleasure ?

Binge watching TV series when I have the luxury to do so, buying and hoarding art supplies, having cappuccino and cake.

What’s your favorite color?

Purple has always been a favourite…then there are the periodic obsessions…which right now is duck egg blue

What was your favorite subject in school…?

I love many subjects. Art was obviously a favourite but at the same time I also liked sciences and studied them in parallel.

If you were getting a tattoo… what would it be?

If I was not too concerned with the permanence of tattoos I would get two small butterflies on my hipline…one of my digis shows something similar to what I like 🙂

If you got offered a weekend in a haunted  house/castle etc.. would you say yes?

As much as I love castles and beautiful historical places I think I would chicken out!

When no one is listening…. do you sing in the shower?

Oh a big yes….and even when people are listening…before I got married my family had to put up with a lot of singing lol 🙂

What is your most popular item in the store/shop?

From the images that were given as a freebie for some time it will have to be Vigilante. Another popular image from the shop is A little Gift.

ImageA-Little-Gift

If you weren’t doing what you are doing now…. what job would you have?

This is another tough one….I like so many things….in another lifetime I would consider an airline pilot, an archaeologist, psychologist….well the list goes on 🙂

How long have you been in business?

I have started Penny Blossom four years ago in 2012 …..but had to put it on the back burner for some time while I was doing my doctoral research….I have been active again only recently

What’s your favorite craftroom/business supply or tool that you couldn’t live without?

I love so many things but I would choose something really basic….good quality paper and a few sharpened pencils

If you got locked in an elevator for 6 hours.. who would you most like to be locked in with ?

Gerald Butler 🙂

When you get the midnight munchies… what do you grab?

I don’t have the habit of snacking during the night…but if I feel hungry in the evening then I have to eat something or else I wouldn’t be able to sleep…usually it will be a ham and cheese toast or something savoury…won’t have sweets if I’m hungry

What’s your favorite event, or holiday of the year?

My birthday which comes in October and Christmas 🙂

What’s your favorite hobby when you want to relax

My work is in a way a hobby as well so I do consider drawing and painting as my hobby. Then if I am lucky and get some extra free time I love to do make-up…try out different products and looks…which in some way still involves colours, palettes and brushes 🙂

How long does the average design/art work take from concept to final product?

It varies for different images but on average it takes from 6 to 8 hours from the concept to having the final digi ready in the shop

When you are working, what is the view from your window like

I work in different places…some of my favourite work was done in coffee shops for example. I also spend quite some time in the studio and here the view is partly of buildings and partly of a lovely valley.

What’s the one song guaranteed to have you shaking your booty anytime, anyplace ..anywhere?

Right now that would be “If it Ain’t Love” by Derulo

What do you love most about all the people you meet through your work?

Their unique ways of seeing things and their unique interpretations. I also appreciate the honest feedback and the great support from other artists as well as from crafters and colourists

Which drawing/product are you the most proud of in your collection?

It is hard to choose because they all have a story or a particular meaning…..

From the older original range……I think the Explorer has particular significance …I also really like Hang in There

From the latest range I’m proud of Alice (which is a freebie that you can download)

Oversized humorous Christmas Card for Tea Drinkers

More fun oversized cards… this one features “Mad Hatter” by Cute As A Button.  I have had my eye on coloring this digi since the first time I browsed the store.  Such a fun image  and a lot of fun to color…who doesn’t love the Alice in Wonderland’s Hatter?

I’m British and a total tea monster, I would be attached to my teapot intravenously if possible. I discovered pretty quickly after moving to the US that Electric Kettles were not the norm…and I had to find a solution to that problem REALLY quick.  I discovered that 12 cup coffee pots work perfectly for people like me lol.  I just throw in 2 Tea bags and off it goes…. stays hot without getting that nasty film on it like a traditional teapot too 🙂 Finding a coffee pot without a 2 hour cut off can be a challenge though lol.

I have to admit I have relegated a fair few coffee pots to the coffee maker in the sky over the last few years lol.  I’m a bit tough on coffee pots *sigh

So when I  went searching for a fun sentiment/quote for this image… I did a search for “tea” and up this one popped… PERFECT !!!  It is absolutely me.

I am not a huge fan of the whole big family celebration thing…. much to my IL’s disgust lol. I prefer to spend my holidays, specially Christmas just me and my hubby and son.  He is a lot like me and 18 adults all yapping at each other isn’t much fun for a little guy..or his mommy lol.

So when I saw this quote… well hell…. there it was ..  I had to do my oversized Christmas card.  I had just ordered some cool new dies that would go perfectly with it.  I must admit, personal preference…I think next time I would stamp the background in black, not white… but it still looks cool.
