May Crafty Awesomeness Challenge

Well  this year is zooming past… it’s May already and  what a month April was. I’m afraid I am a bit tied up with some personal business, but  hoping to get back in the swing of things really soon.

The ladies have been busy playing with some fun images by this months sponsor, Rick St Dennis MFT. Rick is well known for his fabulous, fun and dare I say not so “cute” style of images.  If you haven’t run across him yet, you should check them out.  If you like something a little different and are bored of unicorns and fairies..or just want something a bit but more on the dark side, he most definitely has those too.

This months prize is 2 digi of choice (no sets, sheets, or pdf coloringbooks) for 1 prize winner

So here we are,  this months DT projects .. minus one that is running behind *cough sorry lol.. I promise it’s coming.

New Digis to play with – Rick St dennis

I won the Rick St dennis sponsored challenge over at Get Creative Challenges  last month with my  3D slate piece and the prize was 2 Rick St dennis digis.  I was thrilled…. not only to win, but to get my first Rick St dennis images to play with.

It was a tough choice… so many cool images to play with, but in the end I chose these two. Both are images that were chosen specifically for some friends I have who share my sense of humor… yes there are others like me !!! lol…

Zombie Stripper

Cha Cha Witch

The images I chose were Cha Cha Witch and Zombie Stripper …. not your average cutesies by any stretch of the imagination..  and that is why I LOVE these!!!

Can’t wait to get this one finished and on a card 🙂

Power Poppy 3 marker Challenge

I think I might have a crack at this one… sorry for the late notice, I only just found it.  I picked up some Power Poppy stamps last year,  you may have seen the daffodil image in past projects.  I kinda enjoy the monochrome style, so this challenge should be fun.  It doesn’t hurt I have Chameleon Pens at my disposal either  ….  🙂 I wonder if the blender capabilities of the Chameleons is ok??, technically it’s just one marker…right?

Have you heard about the 3 Marker Challenge? Google it to find tons of videos on YouTube that show artists creating with only 3 markers. The real rules say you have to choose 3 markers at random (close your eyes and just pick) and whatever you pull out, you colour with! There’s some pretty creative things out there and really gifted artists. For this month with Power Poppy, I’m going to go a little easier on you. I’m asking you to choose one of three options:

1.  Pick three markers from the same colour family to create a monochromatic design

2.  Pick three markers from complementary colour families  – (this will be easier to blend, for example red, yellow, orange or blue, green, purple)

3.  Or, for the courageous or expert: Pick three random markers and colour away!

Remember only 3 markers! They can be alcohol-based or water-based, your choice. Use only 3 markers to colour!

  • Use Power Poppy stamps if you have them, but if you don’t, this is a great way to WIN them
  • Link your creation below using our Linky (please use the exact URL from your post instead of a generic blog address.)
  • Please mention Power Poppy in YOUR blog or gallery post with a link back to THIS challenge
  • The winner will receive a free clear or digital stamp set of choice from the Power Poppy Shop
  • Enter as many cards as you’d like, as long as they fit the theme of the challenge!
  • Deadline to enter is April 30th @ 8:00pm EST.  At that point, we’ll draw the winner randomly and make the announcement right here on the first Friday of May!

New Hampshire Slate & 3D layered image wall plaque

I was lucky enough to acquire some gorgeous New Hampshire slate from ImageAbility last year. I have been waiting for just the right project to use this on and I love how it turned out. This slate is normally sold for people who do Chalk Marker Art & Signage, but anyone who knows me.. knows I suck at drawing and my handwriting is equally unimpressive. Unlike the Ziggyboard, this will not fit through the Cricut so I can draw an outline to follow, as I have on previous projects. *grin

I was considering darkening the slate up a touch using some matte Modge Podge Acrylic sealer, but decided against that and went with the “au naturale” look instead.
I also considered a bunch of verse, sentiments, quotes etc. and in the end I chose this one, it seemed appropriate both for a crafter, and the image I was using.

My original plan was to mount this as a desk plaque, desk organizer type deal, but I didn’t have the  wood handy to make that right now…. so that will probably happen at a later date.  The image is multilayered and instead of my regular foam padding, I chose to use a black card stock to create a more subtle depth change.  I believe she ended up as 4 layers, instead of the original 6 layer I had planned ….due to the complexity of the image.
mighty_sword_wmdI colored one complete image to get a feel for how I wanted it to go colorwise, and then I began cutting my other images into each layer and coloring them as needed.  I liked the face on my original test piece so much, I used it for my 2nd layer.  the complete image was cut 4 times on my Cricut Explore and then I cut away the excess pieces on each layer by hand.
