Apology !! and updates

First of.. sorry, I got so caught up with personal stuff I totally forgot to post the winner for the last Crafty Awesomeness Challenge… DOH! So that will be posted on the 15th along with the latest Crafty Bugaboo Challenge winner.

We had visitors from out of state and we ran off to play hookey in the woods.. my sons first vacation. He had an absolute blast… so many first were crammed into those 4 days lol.

He got his first horse and carriage ride around the city, petted his first Guinea Pig, first vacation, first time camping, first time fishing, first worm.. lol that was hilarious haha. He got to play on a beach for the first time… admittedly it was sand on the side of a big lake… which to me…. isn’t a beach…. but he loved it. He got his first baseball glove and his first boxing gloves and punch bag.

When we got home we were so tired we went to bed and then when we woke up… lil man was sick :/  …but he is all good now and mommy has some major catch up to do.  I pretty much turned off all technology  for a few days, and now I am paying for it haha.   But so worth it to see how much fun the lil man had.

But now we are back to the real world….and momma got some work to do!

We picked up some cool  items along the lake shore to use in craft projects, there are new shaker card windows coming.. and a bunch more  blog posts to get caught up..as well as the new Bugaboo challenge on the 15th… so lots to do.  I am also still jobhunting and  getting ready to move, so craziness abounds!  But Halloween is coming .. Muhahahaha

Abandoned Art Project – Readers Series

I had a fun idea for a new Bookmark Series to combine my CUP ( CraftsUPrint)  digital stamps by Gordon Fraser, with my Abandoned Art Projects.. doing something fun, and hopefully Inspiring people to read some of the classic literature that may not have crossed their path.
I was trying to decide on how to make my bookmarks when it hit me.. I could  pick classic tales  inspired by the images and add a short Synopsis to the back of each bookmark .. maybe inspire someone to hit the local library, or bookstore and check it out.

Now i am no literary  genius, so some of my book choices may be a bit obscure, based on books I have personally read.  Others will be pulled from the depths of Google based on search queries like “Pirate story book”  “traveler tales books” etc, ..and once I find a title I like.. I am going to see if I can pull up some fun info to go with it and  of course ..a Synopsis.  Wikipedia is such a fab place to get info on authors, artists, entertainers and  details on so many subjects… so Thank you Wikipedia for helping me further  the  cause of educating people on some great literature.

So here is the first bookmark in the series… Inspired by Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

This will be added to our abandoned Art bucket  to be abandoned  in the coming months, and hopefully found and enjoyed by a book lover.

Stay tuned for the next in this series….

GMD_stars
As you may know we already have a giveaway underway with some of the fab new oceanic themed dies.. shells, anchor and coral… but have you seen the rest?  It’s crazy… just the beach/ocean theme alone is bountiful… and I didn’t even get the shark, or the sand dollar in the sneaky peek gallery below !

…some of these are already available, some are set for an August release.

and then I looked more… and I found  these beauties!  I  am seriously enamored by so many of these fab dies…. and at these prices…. I could shop for a week and still not get done *sigh

You will find these AND more in the NEW DIES section and don’t forget to  enter  the Gina Marie Giveaway to try and win a set of dies too 🙂

….and check out those loopy dies…. how cool would those be on your projects?  I was alerted to those when I saw a fab card  posted over on another blog stampartpapel.com  LOVE these loopy frames and the project is  really pretty.

If you haven’t already seen  the Gina Marie Designs Dies… you are  in for a treat 🙂

Life’s a Beach- shaped card project

This is my latest card featuring the Scrapper’s Delights new Freebie Friday image “Beach Babe Digi Stamps 2”  The challenge for us as DT’s, was to make a shaped card and /or not use designer pattern paper.  I took my image and combined it with another fun Scrapper’s Delights Image “Jungle Palms”, framed it with a circle and  printed it out on a full 8.5×11 sheet.  Scored and folded the sheet and then lined it with a contrasting sky blue card.

I stamped some white clouds on the inside using Stazon ink and then  I cut around the image by hand and  the straight edges with a wavy cut blade on my Fellowes Paper trimmer.

The image was colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens and Zig Kurecolor.  Sentiment is a stamp from Michaels seasonal stamps and  the shells were cut on gold glitter stick from a dollar store using Gina Marie Designs dies  ( if you missed it.. make sure you check the giveaways section for a chance to win a set )

And so here she is…. my Beach Babe.  Thanks for dropping by  🙂

Summertime fun… Life’s a Beach

This is just a quick n simple card for any occasion…  get well, hello, commiserations… whatever you want  it to be.  I don’t like to add  occasions sentiments to cards until they are needed…. unless it’s an image /theme that is very specific.  The message inside is usually quite sufficient and you can always add a sentiment before giving it to the recipient if needed. This is a “Cute As a Button” image Alana Shell Collector and she is my DT card for this month’s challenge at the CAAB Challenge Blog.CAAB_challenge_july _wmdDetails:

  • Base card Craft Smith stamped with Ranger Blue Archive ink and a lips stamp.
  • Image  printed on an Epson Eco Tank on 110lb Georgia Pacific
  • Colored with Chameleon and Zig  Kurecolor Markers
  • Sentiment was  from the summer collection  in Michaels bargain stamp collection
  • Image was padded with Darice foam using Zig Photo Tape

Spotlight Series Day 24 – Alyce, Kit and Clowder

kitandclowderbadge1

alyce

Who are you?

Alyce from Kit and Clowder Online Colouring Classes www.kitandclowder.com

Kit & Clowder Facebook Group

Kit & Clowder Blog

Where are you?

Australia!

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously

Just over two years ago when I turned Kit and Clowder from just my blog to our online colouring class website. Well, I was probably taking it still seriously before then making many many design team cards but I never dreamed that I would be doing this now with our classes 🙂

If you were getting a tattoo… what would it be?

I am so chicken! I would be like Phoebe in Friends where she went to get a tattoo and only got a dot before she pulled out hahaa! I don’t even know what I would get – a cat?

What was the first product you ever had for sale?

Our Skin and Hair class although both the content and the format has changed drastically since the launch!

skinandhair

Who is your inspiration/muse?

My inspiration is everyone who forms Kit and Clowder. I would not be doing this if it weren’t for all of the Clowdies that are part of our group. When I am feeling down I know that I can feel inspired and uplifted by flicking through our Facebook Group and seeing everyone’s work, and also when people post non-craft related stuff. It makes me feel excited that people like to share their lives with us and makes me want to share back.

How many people work with/for you ?

Just me 🙂 But Jon, Mr Clowdie, is my sounding board behind the scenes. I also have some really close friends that I have met since doing this that I know I can discuss about any topic/run through any idea and they 100% support me and tell me if my ideas are bad! 🙂

Name your favorite cartoon?

Oh my… everything Disney? Does Pixar count as cartoon? If we are going movie I would say Wall-e.. but if it’s cartoon tv it is Pokemon

5a7e49_73e4e7d61af9469cb763b1dc8a4e0a22

If you suddenly changed careers and went to work at Disney…what character would you want to be?

ELSA! Or Anna! Or Belle! Or Cinderella! Or Rapunzel! Or Pin Manager!

Which decade do you think had the best music?

90s!!! Spice Girls! hahaaa!

What’s your favorite hobby when you want to relax

I like to read, sing, or play computer games with Jon 🙂

If you were reincarnated…who would you have been in a former life.

Cat – fluffy cat wanting lots of cuddles and food

When no one is listening…. do you sing in the shower?

I sing in the shower, not in the shower, and frequently get caught out by the postman.

kit_class

What is your most popular item in the store/shop?

Our Skin and Hair Class

Who was your first celebrity crush…and have you drawn them?

Probably Angel from Buffy hahaa! No I haven’t drawn him hahaa!

If you got locked in an elevator for 6 hours.. who would you most like to be locked in with ?

Joss Whedon and we would talk all things Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Avengers 🙂

What’s your favorite color?

It changes all the time! I like Purple and Aqua at the moment 🙂 But I really love all colours and having bright colours around makes me feel happy 🙂

5a7e49_c03823ba2d274ae8bef5d23664acbf30

Would you go cave diving with sharks?

Uh not this question!! I am currently being persuaded into this for our Honeymoon O_O Sharks are one of my big fears and I think if I saw a Great White I would pass out in the water. I would say no but I think if I don’t say yes I won’t be getting married haha.

What was your favorite subject in school…?

English – I wanted to be a writer and I looove reading

When was your last REAL vacation and where did you go?

Disneyland! We went last year while teaching our US Retreats and it was the BEST!

If you got offered a weekend in a haunted  house/castle etc.. would you say yes?

Yes but I would be so scared! hehe! It really intrigues me because I feel there are so many stories and encounters for there not to be some sort of truth?

When you get the midnight munchies… what do you grab?

I have a bad habit of getting the coffee/chai latte sachets and halving them so I can get more drinks to keep me full! So I have many many of those to try and stop me eating everything in the house. But I usually still do – biscuits and chocolate 🙁

What is your favorite piece in the whole store? nature

Our new Elements of Nature class – I think it is our most professional class and also flowers and nature are really forgiving for people to colour. Skin and Hair is our most popular class but the actually topic itself is much harder so I think sometimes it’s nice for people to take a break and colour some flowers for some great results 🙂 I also love our Monthly Colouring Class as I feel that it really challenges me to come up with the content and I see the best results in this class. I see people improve the quickest here as they are challenging themselves.

Favorite quote?

If you are not failing every now and again, it’s a sign you aren’t doing anything very innovative – Woody Allen

What’s your guilty pleasure ?

Disney. everything.

What  job did you have BEFORE you started  drawing/designing for a living?

Interior Architect

5a7e49_44617ec4ca5b4b40abe46eb545cd99c1 5a7e49_ef07bbe3c09f4bcfa7f23dda73521712

What’s your favorite event, or holiday of the year?

Christmas – I love getting presents for people and get so excited to give them 😀 I can’t sleep on Christmas eve.

How long does the average design/art work take from concept to final product?

Our Technique Classes take about 2-3 months of straight working on them from concept, writing the material, colouring samples, filming, editing, and putting the actual classroom and graphics together. It’s a really long process! It takes longer now than when I first started as I still do our one on one feedback daily which takes a few hours, plus our monthly class, and all of the admin work. So a Technique class probably takes about 4-5 months now.

What’s the one song guaranteed to have you shaking your booty anytime, anyplace ..anywhere?

So many! I love all Taylor Swift 🙂 And anything cheesy hehe

What do you love most about all the people you meet through your work?

I love how supportive everyone is. I feel that people go out of their way to help one another and to make me feel welcome in their lives. I feel that I don’t have customers but I have friends and I’m so lucky to have met so many of our members now and know that we have a real friendship. I feel extremely lucky.

Spotlight Series Day 4 – Carol Clarke, CUP Designer

I live and work in a village in  Nottinghamshire.  My commute is horrendous … I roll out of bed, stagger down the stairs …. and settle down with my laptop …. absolutely awful I know …. but I mostly manage to get to work on time every day! lol

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously?

It was around 2006 when I first offered designs for sale but I had been cardmaking for a long while but couldn’t find any designs I liked so I had been drawing my own for a long while …. other cardmakers saw them and wanted to know where to buy them so around 2006 I started putting them on CDs to sell …. and it blossomed from there!!

Dressing_the_Tree

What’s your favorite color?

Pink …. and I love it even more if it’s got polka dots on it!

What was your favorite subject in school…?

I loved art but I had to give it up in the 3rd year as my parents thought needlework would be a better O Level to take.  They were right in that I not only got an A in Needlework but I went on to make my children’s clothes on an old Singer Treadle sewing machine (and knitted/crocheted all their woollies too) which saed me lots of money when they were small.   but it’s ironic that I went on to make my living from Art! I did go back to school and Art College as an Adult returner once my children were older and took 3 GCSE’s and an A level in Art …. getting A’s in all of those too!

When no one is listening…. do you sing in the shower?

Oh YES …. unfortunately for anyone who is listening!

When you get the midnight munchies… what do you grab?

Chocolate, love the stuff …. and I’m sure midnight calories don’t count … they don’t … do they???!!

How long does the average design/art work take from concept to final product?

It varies from but My On the Shelf Cards was the longest at over a year to get from my head to fruition.  They normally start with an idea or question …. like … Is it possible?   I wonder if I can?  How can I do that?   Will this work? etc

When you are working, what is the view from your window like

Looking over the decking and the garden to the fields at the bottom of the garden and then the Derbyshire hills in the distance … we get cows trimming any plants that dare to grow too high! lol

rambler

3D on the Shelf Card Kit – Little Rambler Lady Martine

Would you go cave diving with sharks?

No No NO!!

What’s your favorite hobby when you want to relax?

I love to walk.  I am lucky to have lovely countryside on my doorstep and I walk a minimum of 2 miles every day.  I call it my green stress buster!

Which drawing/product are you the most proud of in your collection?

It has to be my Original concept On the Shelf cards I have now drawn and uploaded nearly 1900 of them …. And my favourite is always my newest one and today that is a little Irish Dancer. irish  but I also love my older ones like Santa santa  and the fun ones too

Practicing with my watercolor paint set

Just thought I would share this… it’s an image I just had to grab when I saw it on Bugaboostamps.com. It reminds me of two VERY special people in my life and gave me a good chuckle. I still have a long way to go learning how to watercolor.. but this was fun…and that is what matters most 🙂  It was printed, then painted on 110lb card stock with Gansai Tambi paints  ..I really should bite the bullet and go buy some watercolor paper soon 🙂
