October 2017 Crafty Awesomeness Challenge

Well here we go again….. It’s almost time for  Halloween!  who’s ready ?

Well I thought I would try something different and threw down a little theme for my ladies… and of course my ladies threw it right back at me lol.  Thanks girls lol.. that is what I love about this DT team… we are exactly that A TEAM and we all take charge of our crafty destiny.

So I throw out Black on Black with one additional color if needed … and I get back….

..and this is why I love my ladies lol. Everyone is perfectly happy and comfortable enough with each other that bending the rules and doing as they please is totally cool…and so beautifully done too.

All teasing aside..  the black was just an idea I had since Halloween was approaching and we rarely see Black on Black and it was something I wanted to play with.   And let’s be fair.. not everyone is like me and would love a Black on Black wedding card, or sympathy card haha.  If you haven’t tried it… it’s definitely a fun one to play with.

I have visitors coming in from out of state…  and still caught up with jobhunting and such, but I will try and get my project done ASAP.  I did do one, but was too impatient and already posted it last week lol…so I need to make a new one for the challenge.

Ok… so winner announcement for the September Challenge.. will be posted later night.

And I am sponsoring this month’s prize…. which is>>>> a $10 Gift cert for

Mixing it up a lil’ with some fun new cut files.

Well there was a bit of everything in today’s crafty fun… Magnets, resin, Velvet paper, stickers, cut files, glue, enamel dots…and some window cling.  Not too bad for someone who hasn’t crafted for a while lol.

I was having fun with some new CUP files. These cut files make great backgrounds  and stencils for allsorts of projects.

Lizzie Mayne’s  Gears & Cogs Frame Card  …starting off with Captain Locke by KennyK, she’s a digital coloring I did  a while back  printed and mounted on silver foil paper and then a Cohas Magnetic Sheet cut  on the Cricut. I only used the front portion of the card file… but this comes in square and rectangle as full card files.

Lizzie Mayne – Cornish Grid 3. I had a lot of fun with this Black on Black project..Cohas Magnet Sheet, Black SEI Velvet paper, Black glitter resin Skull and some Black Gina Marie Designs enamel dots.  Nothing like mixing it up a lil’ haha.. but a pain in the hoo ha to photograph an all black project with various finishes haha

Lizzie Mayne – Dhalia Flower Mat Layer Stencil. This one was fun..I cut just one of the  3 layers in this cut file using  that fab velvet paper. Mounted it on card, then colored it with Zig Clean Color pens and a touch of Chameleon Pens.  I cut that out and sliced it in half …stuck it on this plain black envelope and then stamped some fun typewriter and text stamps in a faded white ink.
Just a fun way to decorate envelopes if you are sending a hand written letter, or just need an envelope and don’t want to be bo-ring!

Lizzie Mayne  –  Brick Wave Matt Layer Stencil.  Such a fun card to make.. it’s the perfect kinda project to do with the kids, or grandkids High contrast, super fast, super easy… cut file, some glue, envelope and a card and some fun stickers… and voila.. one High contrast cute card ready to go.  Makes a fun  card for any occasion.

Judith Henry- Lattice Hearts Embellishments. I cut this heart in Cricut Window vinyl and will be putting it on my new car… this is just one of the hearts included in the cut file.  I love how well this vinyl cuts on intricate designs and fine lines.

Velvet Bows – a Black & White Affair

Just a quickie  card I made up last week using a new cut file from CraftsUPrint designer  Lyn Simms. This is Bows 2, the second set of bow cut files I have purchased  from Lyn and I just love this stars design.  These bows are gorgeous when cut on the SEI Velvet Paper I have, because it flexes so well on that paper for gorgeous curves and a luxurious effect.

I added the Polka Dot layer to a plain black card base and then popped a black  flower in the center from a Michaels bargain bin pack.  A really quick card with lots of impact….

Velvet Paper detail on over edge tree card

I don’t know why exactly, but I loved this design the minute I saw it and had to grab it. This is one of my recent CUP cut files by Judith Henry called “Seasonal Tree Silhouette”

This is a super simple card… I just took the design, cut the card base and inked it up in this old letter style background using a couple of text stamps I have.  I added on the green foliage layer which is cut from 65lb Recollections green card and then popped a beautiful velvet paper cut tree on top using black SEI velvet paper (see below)  which you can pick up at Michaels in black or red. Velvet paper is great for these intricate cuts, the paper cuts like a dream on my Cricut Explore and I love using this. Add on the fact it just feels so dang cool and adds a little extra something something to your cards. The design does come with birds too, but I chose not to add those to this project… but you can see them on the original design.

BARGAIN ALERT
Currently the 12×12 Velvet paper is available online at Michaels for $1 per sheet instead of $1.99.

Make your own portable mini desktop easel with storage

A while back I bought a bunch of these  cute little wooden boxes .. the idea was to use them to A: decorate and B: for storing some of my loose pens.  Well .. as you do, it just suddenly hit me.  I had the perfect portable storage to take my pens anywhere, but of course being me.. I hate coloring flat.  I built a super simple desktop easel last year using an offcut spare bit of shelving and two of my sons triangular wood blocks from his building set LOL.
Fabulous little thing.. I use it all of the time… but it’s not exactly idea if you  want to work on odd surfaces like the park benches with the wire tops… but THIS.. now THIS would work. I have had my pens in this box for a few months now and it never even occurred to me till NOW  lol.  I have everything I needed to make a portable easel with storage for my pens.. all I had to do was throw a handle on it if desired and  build the easel portion.  Pff .. NO brainer lol.. TA DA !!! 5 minutes and one pack of popsicle sticks later and I have  my portable easel which could be multi-positional if desired.
Right now I have a flexible band across the top holding extra pens.. but you could store pencil sharpeners, pre printed images or any extras in there as needed by adding an insert with elastic loops, or plastic pockets   These boxes are plenty big enough for a 72 set of pencils and  more if you were to include the top section by adding a strap.  It can be done with any size box, but  this one was  already here and already filled so I chose to use this one for the project. It is approx 8.5×8.5 and  3/4 -1 inch deep at the bottom and 1/2- 3/4 inch deep at the top.
I cut 3 different lengths of Popsicle for different working angles and just stored them inside.. but if this were something you would use a lot you could easily add all 3 angles permanently by fixing them to the box with a nut and bolt and or use metal bars which you can find at the DIY store and just fold out the one you wanted ( think Swiss Army pocket knife lol )
I added a Popsicle to the top with a strip of commercial grade double sided tape to give the paper a resting place so I wouldn’t have to use pins on it to stop it sliding.  I might replace that with a cute little wooden ruler I have once I cut it to size.
Just be sure to seal your box top to protect your wood and /or decor if you decide to  fancy it up; and carry a spare piece of card or something to act as a barrier and give a little padding beneath your project.  There are lots of options for  decorating the top  including a frame with a permanent perspex window,  or a slide in .. hell if you wanted to get fancy .. you could  make a cut out…frame in a sheet of perspex and pop a  battery operated light inside..VOILA !!! portable light box included.
You can take this base project idea  which will knock you back about $5 for the box and  a couple of bucks for Popsicle sticks if you don’t have them…. and totally go to town and personalize your portable easel… make it as quick and simple or  hi-tech and permanent as you want.  Possibilities are endless.

….anywho.. maybe someone out there will have a need for a portable easel with storage and not want to spend a gazillion bucks on one… so .. here you go..something to think about next time you are aimlessly wandering the aisles, coupons in hand.

.. you are welcome   🙂

This is exactly the same kind of box I used in a previous project, with the big cockerel on it.. for anyone who saw that post

Vintage Cockerel Style Wooden Keepsake box.

Quickie card – I heart you

I have some new CraftsUPrint cutfiles, a tonne of new stamps and dies and … oh dear.. it’s been a busy month… for shopping haha.  I have a huge basket of goodies to  play with … and not enough time to play with them all.. but I am sure gonna try..and my son seems to have been bit with the crafty bug bad this month..so I shall be in good company.

So going to start off our mega marathon of craftiness with a quickie card featuring a super quick and cute cut file and a Satuarate Canary stamp I picked up in my first.. yes I said first batch of stamps I grabbed from LDRS Creative this past week (see previous post).  I loved the ones I got so much…I went back for more.   At $1 a pop on clearance, there is no way I wasn’t taking good advantage of this sale …. the stamps are fabulous. I found some long searched for scenic stamps which I can’t wait to play with.  This was my first time shopping with LDRS and I have to say I am impressed.

Ok so here she is.. this is Alice, supplies list is super simple and listed below.

Card base is 110lb Georgia Pacific card and was cut on the Cricut Explore using a CraftsUPrint cut file by Apetroae Stefan  called OVER THE EDGE HEART BORDER CARD

Insert is Black Recollections Value pack 65lb card, contrasts great through the cut outs
Black layer is also Black 65lb Recollections card
Image was stamped on Canson Mix Media using black Stazon Ink and colored with Chameleon Pens

… both layers were given a shabby cut, I have an old cutter that  does this to the paper/card if you only cut one layer and I love it, because I suck at paper tearing/ripping  but like the shabby edge look for some projects…so this is my compromise.

I used Zig Photo Tape runner adhesive to attach my layers.

Velvet and Acetate fairy layers birthday card

This is one of my latest  cut file purchases ..isn’t she cute.  I decided to go with a bold contrast look and  chose silver glitter for the card base, an acetate window and black velvet paper over 110lb card stock to create this cute card. The Fairy topper was cut on the Cricut Explore from a CraftsUPrint cut file.   The texture on this card is quite cool…. smooth acetate, fine textured glitter  card and then the lush velvet… makes for a great tactile card.

Hollywood Themed Gift Box

Oh what a project this one ended up ….this is the final mystery DT project for the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge.  A total 360 on the original vintage Hollywood idea, as it goes lol.  I had a completely different project in mind; but after goofing that one up, I went back to my original idea on this single image set.  Then I tried another idea; great concept, not enough time and missing some vital components …. and craft stores aren’t open at 3 am lol.

WHY !!!!

…so I diddled and I twiddled and then I had an idea… so here is the final piece. Glammed out in gold glitter card which I split to  take just the top layer of to keep it light and not affect the lid.  The canvas was also stripped down and then the canvas layer was  attached to the lid.  A bit of ink, a dab of glue..  swipe of tape here and there and a couple of ribbons.

and there it is, one gift box…  works for either sex as a gift box.. which you can personalize with  a matching tag and  contents.  I will leave that to your own imagination….it is 4:30 am .. you do NOT want to read about mine lol.  This is when the crazy half hour starts lol…… so I shall refrain haha

Image is “George Swooney” by KennyK Stamps

I am gonna have to cut and run on this one..so if you have any questions about what I used, or how I did it… leave a comment  🙂

Today is the last day to enter the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge… come on over   🙂

Do you digital?

I have to be honest;  I rarely EVER  use digital papers, but I liked this new store I found and she has a great sale on this weekend… so I figured I would share 🙂

I usually buy my paper, or decorate my own backgrounds…BUT … once in a while I have an idea and I don’t have the paper, and it’s something I either can’t do quickly and easily, or don’t want to take the time to create from scratch.  Plus I have an Ecotank now so printing my own papers is not such a big deal… LOVE this printer  lol.

And that is when I go on the hunt… usually I start off with google images as a quick place to source visuals. Once I see something I like, I track it down .. sometimes to an Etsy store, sometimes to Pinterest etc.  I love it when it’s a direct hit to the store, so I don’t have to run around like a headless chicken in Pinterest circles trying to find the original source.

Sometimes I head straight for Etsy…. and tonight..I needed BANANA’s !!!  I poked around and finally landed at this store AT Art Digital which apparently is run by by a lady named Tanya Kart.   So I had a poke around, found the paper set I wanted.. and a few more, but was trying to be good.  went to check out and saw this… 50 % SALE this weekend.

Well Why didn’t you say so !!!  LOL

So yup I went back and grabbed the other ones I wanted too lol.

Now as with most collections, there are usually one or two that grabbed your attention and you really like.. one or two that are.. “yeah I can probably use that at some point”..and the .. “hmm probably never gonna use that”.  And we all know that sooner or later that “never gonna use that” is going to be  “OMG, that is just what I needed for this”  Happens all the time lol.

So if you ever wanted to try out some Digital Paper, now’s a great time to grab some  and save some pennies..  or grab a 2 for 1 deal.

I think it will be fun to have a few back up papers I can print at will…and maybe they will inspire some projects along the way.
