Well Hell… I didn’t know you could do THAT with a printer

I was playing around with some of my new  pens when I had a “moment”  ..it was one of those 3 am .. “I wonder what would happen if I….” moments that some of you have become used to on this blog.

If you have never tried this… you really should.  Some of you are so way beyond me in coloring skills and watercoloring.. so  this is more of a  technique project that an actual finished piece project. Obviously  to make a stunning piece you really need  to  take a bit more time  than I am going to on this video… but it will give you a good idea of what you can achieve.

The concept is the same as coloring with any other media..you still need to pay attention to your shadows and highlight placement.  But this is something  you can do no matter what your budget and get some really cool  pieces.   For these projects I am using Canson Mixed Media  paper pads, an Epson Eco Tank Printer and an H2o brush/fine art brush and plain tap water  and a  small artist brush.  Then you can, if you want add in additional  coloring media..such as pencils, inks, pens… to  take it up a notch.  I mainly use Chameleon Pens and Zig Kurecolor.. but will also be adding in a few extra and will note what I use by each image in future posts.  I have a few more samples I will share in follow up posts when finished 🙂

No matter what your skill level, this is something cheap and fairly quick to do and even a total novice can achieve some cool  finished projects.

Ok..so here we go…. here’s a  video to show you just how quick and easy this technique can be.  No Fancy nails, no fancy set up… just a down home quicky video… probably complete with a running commentary background from my 4 year old “director”  ** By the time I got to finish up the video etc ….My mini-me is tucked up fast asleep..but I am sure he will show up in future videos. He has been in a few previously…. did I mention we don’t do serious? lol

You will get used to him appearing in these videos..at least the audio…he’s a bit of a ham and hijacks all of my projects lol.  We  REALLY don’t do serious…. 🙂

ok ..so video first followed by a bunch of quick samples.

This is an image I found on Digital Tuesday before I even knew digital stamp artists existed – digitaltuesday.blogspot.com

A quick splash of Chameleon Pens RD4 Crimson Red and voila..instant pop.

This is A KennyK Stamps Image… and one of my favorite characters to color Brianna Blaster

A splash of subtle color on this one, again with Chameleon Pens.

NU00 – Nude
BL3 – Sky Blue
PK3 – Bubble Gum

If you enjoyed this idea and decide to try it out, I would love to see what you do with it.  I’m going to play around with some color prints too ..just because I can..and I am curious to see how the colored ink reacts… so expect to see more  of this idea in future.

Craftsuprint Steampunk meets Gina Marie Designs

If you follow the blog you will have seen the recent 12×12 Steampunk page I did featuring “Brianna Blaster” from KennyK stamps and a Tina Fitch Craftsuprint clock cut file. The cogs that were used on that project for the background stencil and cog embellishments came from this kit, also by Tina Fitch. I personalized the cut file with some Gina Marie Dies.. using the lattice panel from the Lacey Lattice set I just bought and also added in a butterfly and sentiment, also cut from Gina Marie Dies.

Be sure to check out the recent post about weeding these intricate dies and the “crafters toothbrush”  and a couple of card projects using these dies in a much softer project.   Versatility  is very important to me, I’m on a tight budget and need my supplies to work for their keep ….it’s got to be something I can use again and again and get a fresh look each time.

The cogs were given a metallic finish using Faber Castell Gellato’s and the gold layer of the butterfly was a split from some dollar store gold glitter card. I split the glitter layer from the card layer to give it a thinner, softer touch. I love the cog section of this cut file… it’s such a great pattern and so useful for so many other projects too.  This one was cut from a SVG file on the Cricut Explore, but is available in other machine formats too.

“Brianna Blaster” Steampunk Scrapbook Album Cover

LOVED making this…. Another one of the fab cut files I picked up with my winnings over at CUP the other week.. well actually, technically it’s two lol. I swiped elements of another steampunk card by the same designer and added them in to this project showcasing her clock design.  You’ll get to see that one and more details later this week.

I am not totally sure if this will end up as an album cover or if it may end up in a shadow box frame… we shall see. Details and supplies are below the image.

The page is a 12×12 sheet from a Neutral Solid color pad by Craft Smith. I inked up the background using the larger cog cut out and a Craft Smart Dye ink pad.. very quick and haphazard..it’s intentionally patchy for the overall effect…. so a very easy technique for steampunk backgrounds.

Club KennyK & Message Board Challenge piece.

This card was so much fun to do.. I love playing around with various ideas and materials.. it’s part of the Club KennyK facebook Group Challenge and also one of our message board challenges.

This actually started life as a test “print and cut” for another project…. but I found it in my practice coloring pile this afternoon and decided to have some fun.

The main image is Brianna Blaster from KennyK.  She is colored with a modge podge mix of pens…

–  is actually a home mix of Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks inside an old Kurecolor pen with some Chameleon pen shading and make up.  I am waiting for Kurecolor refills and it works well enough for now.  Hell who am I kidding.. I just estimated our refund … I’m going bloody shopping for more than refills at CraftingAbility.com as soon as that money deposits lol  haha

Main clothing  – Chameleon Gray and Red pens in varying tones

Highlights and shade and shadows … oh boy what didn’t I use…  this has Ranger distress pen in red, Zig Memory System chalk pen in gray, and writer pen in pink, Ranger distressed gray.. I am sure there was more.. but you get the idea lol.

The frame, background, inside and envelope were done using a mix of rubber stamps… some of which I got in miscellaneous lots on Ebay dirt cheap. I know this shows only partial stamps, but if anyone is interested in seeing these stamps in full…  just holler and I will stamp them up and post a pic with details of any that were mounted and still have info on them.

Stamped with black and red Craftsmart Dye inks and a white momento ink. I inked the edges of the frame with black and red and also the envelope has some inking highlights in red too.

Center Panel is Ziggyboard adhesive chalk board vinyl ….I wanted to be able to personalize at will..either with wet wipe, or permanent  chalk markers.

“Brianna Blaster” card

My first card of 2016

..and I got to use one of my favorite KennyK images “Brianna Blaster”,  color her using skills I am learning at Kit & Clowder and I used my new Velvet paper…. and finally got to use some of the watch pieces I picked up last year.

Tough one to photograph with a flash …. so I might try to take some more pics later this weekend when I do a detailed project post on this one.

Love this card… kept it simple so it didn’t overpower the image with bling and sentiments.

Image Explosion…. go big….or go home

KennyK Exploded Practice sheet

I was poking around on some facebook pages and saw a card that inspired me to do this practice sheet.  Everyone knows how much I love my KennyK digis … so it should be no big surprise that I chose those to test this out with.

I double checked the TOU (terms of use) ..to make sure I was ok to share this idea online.  So here goes, this is my practice sheet of cropped and blown up KennyK images.

Not all of the images I have, and I have a LOT of them…. are suited to this blown up square…. but would work great blown up in a rectangle or circular frame.. so don’t be surprised if you see more of these.

KennyK Exploded Practice sheet

I  can see me having a lot of fun experimenting with these over the coming months.  It’s also a good way to practice areas you are struggling with… which for most people is hair and skin.

Images shown are:

“Bodacious Bev” digi stamp
“Download Diva” digi stamp
“Brianna Blaster” digi stamp
“Miss Fortune” digi stamp

I’m playing around with a combination of Chameleon pens and Zig Memory System Set on these ones, but I’m still not happy with the skin tones… I still prefer to do skin digitally.  But persevere I shall, and I think I will invest in a set of the brush markers.  I love the ones I have in the memory system set, but since it’s a mixed tip set.. obviously it doesn’t have the entire color range.  I love the Zig chalk pens  that came in the set for the hair, so a set of those in the writing tip is another must for early next year.
