“Poppy Fairy” Matted art in Pencil

This one was a  lot of work, but I love how she turned out.  She was printed on a 9×12 piece of Canson Mixed Media Paper and colored with Crayola Color Escapes, the  new “Grown up Crayolas” as I like to call them.   She is part of the New Release collection for March over at Cute As A Button this month.  I added a black photo mat to this and will frame it  and gift it to someone.

Go check out all the fun new images and don’t forget to pop on over and check out the Inspiration Blog & Facebook Group for new challenges 🙂

Cute As A Button over the edge combo card

I have another new Over the edge card cut file from CraftsUPrint today.  I love these files because they are so versatile. .. with a little tweaking you can change the dimensions to make square cards,  crop them for edging acetate panel cards, draw the designs instead of cutting, rotate them, adjust the score lines to make 3/4 folds.. so many options… or of couree, leave them as is  LOL

This one is

FLORAL OVER THE EDGE 37 by Apetroae Stefan

I kept pretty much as it comes in the original file, I just left out the contrasting insert.  I added burgundy pearl cabochons to the flowers and  added  the image  which is a clear stamp from Cute As A Button.  I  colored this one in subdued tones using  Tim Holtz distress pens on Canson Mix Media 9×12icon paper, popped it on a sheet of foam and added contrasting shabby cut layers.

You can find Autumn Fairy in the Cute As A Button store in both clear and digital formats.

Guest Designer – Lil ‘ Man D – Thank You card and Bookmark

You may have seen  my posts on Facebook last week about my lil man and his first watercolor project…. well he was at it again tonight  🙂

My little man was given an early birthday present last weekend by a lady who works with hubby, so this is her Thank You card and a little book mark for her to use in her Bible, or other reading matter.  Now it goes without saying, since he is only 4 …. that he had a little help …SURPRISE !! lol.  But the painting is all him.

He may be a crafty wee soul, but  this mommy isn’t ready to let him lose  with a laminator and glue all by himself .. my sanity is questionable at the best of times .. but not THAT bad haha.  Unlike someone we won’t mention by name who’s grandson glued himself up trying to apply “lotion” to his legs whilst visiting her craft room last week lol…. sorry.. I am still giggling over that one .. my bad.

The images he colored are :

Image #13 – Heart Ants – by Sasayaki Glitter & a section cropped from Pure Prairie Bouquet by Power Poppy.

The card and bookmark were colored using Gansai Tambi watercolors and a Zig Kuretake H2o brush.

The card  is a hot pink 5×6.5″ from a multicolor pack at Michaels
A background layer of rough cut 65lb black Recollections card from the value packs
The image is printed on Canson Mix Media Paper on my Epson Eco Tank and also had a rough cut edging. I added the sentiment “There is beauty in creation” and a border to the image before printing.  This was also foam popped on a Darice adhesive foam sheet and attached using a double side tape. The card layers were  attached with Zig Photo Tape and the Sentiment which was a cheapie import die was attached with Tombow Aqua.

The Book mark is backed with a light tan 65lb card  with a hint of a border showing behind the image cut from the front, and I attached a tassle from a value pack at Michaels. I added a cute little bead  that I got  in a happy mail package from Francesca at Cute As A Button when she very kindly shared her destash items with the DT team 🙂  It says “Always” on one side and “Believe” on the other… pretty appropriate for a Bible Bookmark.

I hope you like it

🙂 One Proud Mommy

Image transfer on wood using laminating sheets

This is probably the shortest project post I have ever written..and that is because it’s soooo simple but kinda cool. I wanted to try something new and so I printed my image onto a laminating sheet. Be sure to feed it fold edge first if you try this:)

Once I had my print out I placed it on a wood blank and used my brayer to transfer the image..and then I colored it with my new Crayola Color Escapes pencils.  I am pretty sure this is NOT what they had in mind when they made these pencils.. but  they do a great job on so many surfaces… why not ???

I didn’t want to make this project overly ornate..I just wanted to  have the image on it’s own. But you could easily take this technique and inject it in to a bigger, fancier Mixed Media project, if that is what you wanted to do.

My best advice would be…. tape the image down when you go to transfer it to avoid slipping and sliding on smooth surfaces.  I didn’t do that and got a bit of ghosting in places.. but to be honest, with the look I was going for and using pencils..  it really didn’t  make a huge difference.  You don’t get sharp clean heavy lines anyway, it’s more like working on a no lines coloring project.

anywho, fun technique to play with and  definitely something I’d like to experiment with a bit more.  It makes for some rather cool wall decor  🙂

This is my latest DT Project for Cute As A Button Challenge Blog .. come play !!!

“A little Tutti Frutti” humorous Valentines card

I’ve been wanting to color this one for a while, but was waiting for the right moment to hit…  I am a creature of mood, so an image has to “speak to me” for me to really get into creating with it. Sometimes it is instant and I know the second I see it exactly what I need to do with it… specially those ones that tickle my bad sense of humor.  Others I have to let them grow on me and I bounce ideas around and then it hits me…

This was one of those projects.  I had the main image and the fun paper  done and sat waiting for  the finishing touches.. when it hit me.  I was just gonna have to write me a poem  LOL.   I hope you like it.

This is my DT project for the February 2017 Crafty Awesomeness Challenge and was created with an image from Cute As A Button, who is the February Sponsor.  Come on over and join in and share your projects.

This is IMG00221 Chiquita by Cute As A Button she was print and cut on the Cricut Explore and colored with a mix of Zig Kurecolor and Chameleon Pens. I popped some Glossy Accents on  the grapes and necklace for a subtle 3D feel.  The patterned paper is one I found on Etsy by AT Art Digital and you may have seen my “Do you digital?” post last week or two about these.

I printed this on my Epson Eco Tank, and then trimmed that down with my wavy blade on my cutter.  I added a black layer behind for impact which also has a wavy edge and then mounted it all on a card base cut from a Craft Smith paper pad using Zig Photo Tape.  The Pineapple was one of the Michaels $1.50 stamps and I stamped, hand cut and colored that. Sentiment die, I think was  a cheapie import???  cut on my Sizzix Big SHot

and the poem.. yup….  the poem…. that was all me…. sorry, having a “moment”  LOL.

Let’s face it.. not every girls is flowers and hearts.  I’ll take a good laugh over a bunch of flowers any day of the week.

Love this image, reminds me of Carmen Miranda…. yup… I know..showing my age again lol.

Hope you like it  🙂

Laminated Bookmark for Abandonment

We ran out to the store last night to pick up a few things for the little guy and right next to it is a Panera Bread. We’ve never been in one before; but Grandma gave hubby some Gift cards at Christmas, so we figured we would give it a  try. The Broccoli Cheddar  soup was awesome, sandwiches were great … hubby loved the Cinnamon Rolls and lil man gave the Fudge Brownie a BIG thumbs up.

It kind of reminded me of the restaurants and coffee shops we would frequent back in Silicon Valley….very relaxed and a place people come to hang out, read, chat and do homework. So, that inspired this next project…I am going to abandon some pieces here next time we go as part of our Abandoned Art missions.

Here is my January Inspiration for the Cute As A button Inspiration Show case, featuring “IMG00284 Nothing Like A Good Book”  I used my own Sentiment for this project.

She is colored with Chameleon Pens, I added the black digital borders before printing her out. I added a blue panel behind  and then ran it through my laminator and trimmed it up. I punched  a hole and threaded some cute ribbon through it.  Very quick project  for the book lovers.

If you don’t have a laminator, they also sell self sealing laminating pouches.

Decoupage Wall Plaque “Baby Boy Blues”

I was playing around with ideas again.. you know how that goes LOL.

I picked up some of these cheap wood blanks at Walmart… I only went in for milk honest.

2 gallons of milk and $50 of craft supplies later…. haha ..oops…and I had some fun stuff to play with for me and the lil man.

Now cute isn’t really my thing, but I still like to have a play around with ideas and  try new things…and sometimes I get a does of the “cuties”.  I think that is how you learn what you like and don’t like; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t…. but you will never know unless you try.

What I loved about this one was the soft Wedgewood style color Palette ….what I didn’t love…. sticking on what felt like a gazillion tiny flowers and  pearl cabochons.  But I like how  the flower clusters turned out on it…it’s a very handy die, I just wish it did more than one at a time.  I can see a few places I think I probably should have added a few stray flowers, but it’s so easy to  go too far and OVERKILL strikes  lol.

Anywho here she is, this is my  New Release project for Cute As A Button “My Baby Boy” . The idea would work with a photo instead of a digi image too.

Decorated MDF Inspirational Frame

Well this is a new one on me…

I have always liked the look of journaling and bible decorating; but since I don’t journal..and I don’t do the Bible thing…. and I don’t really think it would look the same if I stamped  the HTML Bible, which is the only one I own lol.. this was my own take on the idea.  And yes, that is a real thing.. Google it.. it’s a book for Computer geeks who build websites etc.

anywho.. as I said, this is my alternate take on the whole journaling, bible stamping thing….

I took an Art Minds  12 x 12 MDF frame that I picked up at Michaels a year or so ago, coated it in diluted Mod Podge and  stuck  a sheet of Christmas text on it from a paper stack book I just picked up in the sales at Michaels.  It’s from the Recollections Christmas – Pinecone Lodge Paper pad ..I stamped it with Stazon Ink and a stamp I also picked up in the after Christmas sale which was a Poinsettia stamp and die set by Stampendous.  I had already stamped and colored it so I  took that copy and scanned it into my graphics program, then did a print and cut on my Cricut Explore to  add the  colored layer.  These have been sprayed with Mod Podge sealer which really makes the colors pop on printed images, if you are printing on a regular flat card stock like the Georgia Pacific, or Neenah 110lb.

I cut the believe sentiment in two layers; one black and one red to match the coloring on the poinsettias and the main image using a Momenta Die I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby…and of course my trusty old Sizzix Big Shot.

The Image is IMG00374 -377 Faith Fairies Bundle – Bible Journaling Bookmark Digital Digi Stamp by Cute As A Button and I printed it on Canson Mixed Media paper then colored her with Chameleon Pens.  I stamped a border  of ferns around her using Black Ranger Archival Ink and Green Crafts Smart inks and the Hero Arts Fern stamp I picked up….again.. yup..in the Christmas sales at Michaels.

This is my  project for the new Cute As A button Blog Challenge, we’d love to see you join us.
