Mommy’s weekly specials! Menu for my picky eater

I was having fun playing with my Cohas adhesive Vinyl chalkboard again and made a sign to hang up outside of my kitchen.  My lil guy can be a fussy eater, so I thought I would make him a fun  menu so he could help meal plan.  This is just a flat canvas panel, covered in chalkboard vinyl and a couple of strips of ribbon… and I added  Beer and Barbeque Lady Digital Stamp,   but colored the bottle to look like Ketchup.  The image is colored with Zig Kurecolor markers.

Easy Chalkboard Vinyl humorous signs

I needed a break from cleaning up and had a play with some fun signs.. nothing major, just some fun signs with some fun images. I popped a square piece of Cohas Adhesive Chalkboard Vinyl onto an 8×8 wood canvas/blank and added some of the fun images I got from CraftsUPrint designer Gordon Fraser.  These were watercolored using Gansai Tambi paints  and H2o brushes on Canson Mix Media Paper.

It’s really easy to  swap images in and out…. if you don’t want to keep a permanent image on it, just use a 2 way temporary bond glue.  Great way to make motivational signs for yourself, or other family members.  I just  wrote on mine with blue and white Zig wet wipe Chalk Markers, which cleans right off with a wet rag. You could of course use a more permanent pen which they also  make, that comes off with window cleaner.  I deliberately didn’t prime my chalk pens, to keep it more  rustic and not so intense.

This vinyl comes in 12×12 sheets, or pre-cut labels in various shapes.  I like the 12×12 sheets  because I can cut this on my Cricut Explore if I want something a bit fancy and also write on it on my Cricut.. because let’s face it, my handwriting sucks haha…. or pop it in a 12×12 Scrapbook page frame if I want something bigger.  I have the labels too and they are awesome for  labeling jars etc with my lil man as gifts.. lots of fun shapes.

When I want a more permanent sign, I confess I usually  run it through my Cricut first to add the text..

Vintage portrait style watercolored magnet

Well.. what a mix of goodies ended up in this project… I think everything but the kitchen sink lol

This is a new magnet framed with the Gina Marie Designs combo die piece you saw in a post earlier today…  looks a bit different now though LOL.  It had a few layers of Tim Holtz distress ink, followed by two colors of DecoArt Metallic Lustre, a touch more distress ink…. then 3 layers of clear embossing powder.

The image is “Lavish” by Rick St Dennis, which is one of 3 new ones in this style that I picked up last night.  She is printed on Canson Mix Media 9×12icon and colored with Gansai Tambi Watercolors using an H2o Brush.  I mounted the image to a piece of  COHAS magnet using a commercial grade double sided adhesive tape and then attached the frame with Zig 2 Way Glue.

This one will be joined by the other two images who will be turned into magnets too and will be joining my Abandoned Art bucket and abandoned in the coming months.  If you want to lean more about abandoned Art there are links to several Facebook groups on the side of this blog.  It’s all about sharing the happy!

Metal framed chalkboard sign…Cheers Easy!

This is one project that definitely won’t be going in the Abandoned Art box…  I’ll be hanging this one above my craft desk.  Not because it is a fantastic project.. but because it has sentimental value!  Cheers Easy is something my brother used to say.  Steve at Crafting Ability sent me a sample of the new Slate chalkboard vinyl to play with and I had been sitting on it waiting for the right project to come along.  It’s like the original Black Chalkboard vinyl that you can find on Cohas.com ( formerly known as Ziggyboard which you may have seen on various projects on the blog ).. but this one is a deep rich gray color and has a slight sating texture to it….and I am loving it.

The Cohas chalk vinyls cuts like a dream, clean up really nice and easy, so fabulous for signage which needs to be updated… but it’s also great for people like me who  can’t do cursive or fancy writing.  This particular one is just done with rubber stamps and chalk paint, but  you may have seen in previous posts where I have run this vinyl through my Cricut Explore and  written and drawn on it using Gelly Roll Pens, chalk pens and such.

Anyway… the ArtMinds metal plaque was a clearance item at one of my local Michaels.. under $3, I buffed the ornate edges with a DecorArt metallic Lustre Wax called “Black Shimmer” also on clearance at the same store…. that was $3.99 a pot and I picked up 6 pots in various colors.  Cut to size a piece of the Slate Chalkboard vinyl and applied that

… then popped on one of my favorite KennyK images from last year “Old time Bartender”. He is colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor and Tim Holtz distress pens by Ranger.  I did him as a Print & cut on my Cricut Explore. with the intention of making him a 3D decoupage image.. but decided to go with a single layer in the end.

Fun quick little project  for anyone needing customizable signage..or just a fun piece of wall decor.

CraftsUPrint Treasure Chest Bonus packs project, Vault and Friday Freebie

Some of you may have seen me post previously about the Treasure Chest items I got free with one of my  cut file orders. CraftsUPrint are actually mailing these FREE when you order over £15 ( currently on offer at £10 ) worth of files or card kits.  I have to be honest I wasn’t expecting them to be that great quality, cmon..it’s free right  lol.  But when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the  sheets..AND the size.  I wasn’t expecting full A4 sheets either.. 15 of them.. and you get to choose the designs you want.

If you missed  my previous post, you can find details below

My Treasure Chest Freebies arrived…. impressed !

Well last night I finally had a moment to sit and play with them… and I made my son some fridge magnets for his word wall.. which incidentally is one side of my upright freezer lol. It’s situated near the dining room table so always in view of him when he is eating or playing.. mommy’s subtle way of keeping him learning no matter what he is doing.

He spends a lot of time playing with Playdoh or coloring etc at the table.. and of course it’s a great way for him to “earn ” snacks during the day.  If you missed previous posts about the Cohas Magnetic sheets (formerly known as ZiggyBoard) I use to make his  wall.. I added some of them to some cheap wood cut circles and some of them I just added the Magnetic strip straight to the back of them.
Now the link is to the commercial product, what I am actually using is what are referred to as “tails” and “seconds” so anyone who is interested in buying some of these for projects, let me know. These are perfect for making magnets, and letter walls and using as small magnetic chalkboards. I have allsorts of projects on the blog using this stuff and I love it (search magnet, or Ziggy on the blog). It cuts like a dream on my Cricut Explore, by hand, my paper cutter, My Sizzix Big Shot… so very versatile and lots of fun to be had. I also used it to hang my metal dies for easy grabbing.. LOVE this stuff.

Well CraftsUPrint also just added a new video about the treasure chest, so I figured I would add that in for anyone interested.  If you have kids who like to craft, or you want some fun card or project toppers.. check them out.  I grab a set every time I buy new cutfiles.. in fact, I’m off to get more when I finish up this post as I see some fun new cut files I need to grab.  These are great for  projects with my 4 year old too as the Treasure Chest also includes sticker sheets.

They have added in lots of new items too, check out the contents of the current Treasure Chest right now not only can you get access to the treasure chest with a £10 order, you also get access to the vault for 24 hours.. and that is filled with freebies too. Lots of great card kits.. and they are all yours.. you have 24 hours to grab them for free.

Right now.. these are part of the vault collection.. which includes card kits, toppers and digital papers

CraftsUPrint Cricut SVG cut file Catch up!

I had a bunch of new files before Christmas that I didn’t get to  make up….so I decided to play catch up and zipped through a few of them tonight. One of them was already cut, another was already made up..I just didn’t get a chance to photograph it.  The other two I had made up, but messed up … so these were remakes and I actually like these versions better anyway LOL.

Now bear in mind I get SVG’s because I have a Cricut Explore, but most of these designers design in multiple formats for various cutting machines.  So when I refer to design space or Cricut,  that doesn’t mean you can’t use these cut files too…check and see.

Also… just an FYI, these files are not always as standard.  I  import them into Design Space and tweak them a little to suit my own needs. Changing cut areas to write, duplicating layers and using the contour tool to remove the cut outs etc to create a solid background on layers…  moving score lines to give a 3/4 fold etc.  So please bear in mind most of these files come with a center fold and are  set up for cutting, not writing.  If you are new to the Cricut, you may not know how  to modify things like that yet… never fear..it’s not rocket science.

Ok first one  was a remake… I originally started with a watercolored background in the cutouts, looked great but I bombed it when I stuck in on the inside… so take 2.. has a vellum insert and some cute pink ribbon detailing.  I scalloped the card on my paper cutter for a softer edge.

This cut file is: floral card 2 by Clive Couter, I have a few of his designs and really enjoy using these.

Next is a  simple little hello card. I had pre-cut this on green glitter card with the intention of using a Christmas design, but Christmas is long gone… so I just switched out that idea and  used a stamp from one of the new Layering sets by Hampton Arts.  I die cut the circle with a die from some Steampunk gears I picked up on Ebay.  It is stamped with Stazon and colored with Zig Clean Color… and a simple little “Hello” die sentiment, again an Ebay buy.

This cut file is from: over-the-fold-cards-1 by Lyn Simms

The next one was  done on black card using  a Zig chalk pen and pencils and I added an oversized die cut sentiment. I also flipped it on it’s side.  You will need a Chomas Adapter to use the Zig pens to write and draw on your Cricut Explore.

This cut file is: floral-over-the-edge-5

This one I duplicated the layer, welded  the holly leaves and  then  moved the score line to create a half fold hard.  I would probably have added in some red cabochons for the holly berries… but to be honest.. I have no idea where I stuck them lol.

Sympathy card drawn with a Chalk Marker pen on the Cricut Explore

I adapted this CUP cut file to draw the design on my Cricut Explore, as opposed to cutting it.  Love this effect!

I imported the SVG file into Design space, created a duplicate and used the contour feature to create a cut file of the outline, I then switched the original from cut, to write and used a Zig  dual tipped chalk pastel marker pen to draw the design.  I added in some tiny pearl cabochons and a sympathy sentiment die by  Gina Marie Designs.

This would look great done in a black pen  on white then colored with markers too.

I love the versatility of these over the edge card cut files.  This one I re-proportioned to create a square card, instead of the original rectangular card.

“Catch of the Day” fun fishing themed card

I picked up another fun new cut file in my latest traipse over at CUP,  Tri-Fold Scalloped Top Card by one of my favorite SVG designers, Rae Carr.
cup_fishies

I recently picked up some new Gina Marie Dies “Gone Fishing” and  I had  grabbed this fun image from Bugaboo Stamps called Girlz – wiggle the bait to go with them.  Well as it happens, I have been waiting for  just the right project to use the paper stack I won from DCWV a few months back.. and this was it!  It’s a gorgeous paper stack called Coastal, filled with all sorts of cool  card sheets.. including some pearl foiled and printed linen pages. cup_fishies2 cup_fishies3
I added in a dual stitched frame  using my Lil’Inkers dies and added the catch of the day chalkboard look using a Zig Chalk Pastel Pen.  The inside  net was created using the lattice portion of the Gina Marie Lacey Lattice die set I got a month or so back.  The fish was colored with Tim Holtz Distress ink pads, as was the chalk board frame and the nets and rod.

The base card was cut from a Craft Smith solid color card stack on my Cricut Explore and the image was printed on Canson Mixed Media, then colored with Chameleon Pens.

Adhesives for this project were Zig Photo Tape and Zig 2 way glue.

I was naughty….this was supposed to be my DT project for the new Bugaboo Stamps Challenge starting on the blog in January… but I was impatient to share it.  Soooo…. guess I’ll be doing another project this weekend lol.

Be sure to subscribe to the blog, or follow me on Facebook etc if you want to be alerted to the new challenge.  All you Bugaboo Stamp fans, get your creative juices flowing..  this one is exclusively for Bugaboo Stamps Projects and prizes are sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps every month.  Woo Hoo.. we love our Bugaboo Stamps, so the DT team are a bunch of happy little clams…. and ….we have a new DT  joining us for the Bugaboo Challenge too  🙂

Slightly off topic and I will be posting about this tomorrow  too.. I just had a quick peek  to see what new Gina Marie Dies are available and saw some fab deals on some Deep Red Rubber Stamps ..I was drooling over the vintage ones… specially at those prices.  They will be fab for my vintage/steampunk backgrounds.  AND for any of you old Cricut Explore owners who never got the Bluetooth Adapter... I also saw they have a handful of them available .. $10…… so if you always wanted one.. now’s the time to go grab one, they don’t have many in stock.

Humorous Christmas Card ..getting ready for 2017

This is a Bugaboo Stamps Friday Freebie, if you didn’t grab it..you still have a few days left to get it before the new Freebie comes out.  It’s called “Winter Penguin Trio”  I am still playing with Christmas images… nothing like getting a head start on next 2017 cards lol.

I knocked up a super quick and simple card. It’s just a single fold on an 8.5×11 sheet of Black card, the image was printed on Canson mixed Media and colored with Chameleon pens. I added the inside sentiment to the bottom of the photo, just so you get the intended humor.  The image is foam popped on a sheet of Darice foam and the sentiment is a die cut from a Momenta die I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby last week.  I cut it on black card then rewrote the sentiment with a Zig Chalk Pen.  Tore up the edges and sponged on a blue ink edging.bug_penguin_trio

Recollections 65lb card -Black
Canson Mixed Media Paper 7×10
Chameleon Pens

Super simple wooden easel effect

This was another one of the recent cut files I bought from CraftsUPrint by Designer Clive Couter  “Artists Easel Card”. The sample on the site was very feminine, so I decided to try something different.  I went for a super simple look.   The cut file is really quick and simple .. just 3 cuts, 5 folds and a couple of spots of glue..and voila! one easel ready to decorate. I chose to keep it simple and added a handful of die cuts …. but you could be as simple, or as fussy with the decor as you like.

Nice versatile design that could be used for cards, signs, seating arrangements and so much more.  Throw on some chalkboard vinyl and some chalk pens and it would be a great one for kids, or teachers…. homeschooling awards, So many possibilities!

Materials for this one are super easy… 110lb card stock, some ink pads, glue and some die cuts.  This would be a fun and easy projects for the kids too.  Add a photo or drawing and send it to Grandma ..or pop it on a shelf with an inspirational quote.
