Fairy Topper Notebook

I made this cute Fairy topper design  Fairy on Fancy Background No.3 into a notebook cover for my friends little girl.  It’s a full 8.5 x 11 comb bound scribble pad  and I will add her name to the scroll on the front.  Another gorgeous Lyn Simms design for the little fairy lovers  in our lives.

You can find this file in various cutting machine formats at CraftsUprint

Bugaboo Sketch Challenge inspired notebook

I was cruising along doing my thing when I ran across the  new Bugaboo Stamps latest “Stella Says Sketch Challenge”.  Now I am not a huge fan of sketch challenges..I like to do my own thing.. but once in a while a sketch will catch my eye and I’m like

“hmm.. yup..I can work with that! “

….and this  was one of them.  This is the Sketch for Challenge 502 which runs till February 6th.  Now I am kind of used to our sketch challenge on the message board..which is VERY relaxed as far as “rules goes”  and very open to artistic license. They are an inspiration/ suggestion not an absolute LOL.. so everyone is used to me skipping  the sentiments section on my cards and projects.

Sometimes they just don’t need one, other times I want to leave it  till I know who the recipient is… or let’s face it.. it’s me!! Sometimes it’s just not something I should probably post pictures of for the masses lol.
In this case, it just doesn’t need one… it’s a notebook, not a card.  I just wanted to have some fun with these Bugaboo Stamps I have in my collection and practice  blending techniques with my Chameleon Pens.  I will enter it any way, just to show it off for anyone who cares to  check it out…and to show a bit of support for one of our Sponsors Challenges.
Anywho here is my fun little notebook, made from scratch using a Fellowes Comb Binder and Plastic Combs.  The images used are Hedgehog Flower and Mini Set- Spring Flower Blocks which is a set of 6.  Colored with Chameleon Pens on Canson Mix Media the notebook was made using Recollections card for the cover and the inside pages.

I was considering laminating the covers, but decided against it.  The center panel was layers of black & white matching card stock and I used Zig Kuretake Photo Tape Runner for my adhesive. and the  Hedgehog was also printed on white, then colored and Die cut using one of my newer Gina Marie Designs Dies “MINI HEART LACE SQUARE DIE SET”

This one  may or may not join my abandoned art project bucket… it’s kinda cute and I may keep it.

Be sure to enter your Bugaboo Stamps Projects in their Challenges..at “Catch the Bug Challenge Spot”

and of course our brand new one that started this month “Bugaboo Crafty Challenge”.  It’s a monthly prize challenge that starts on the 15th of each month for Bugaboo Stamp projects

.. and then of course you can also enter it in the “Crafty Awesomeness Challenge” here on the blog too, which is an anything goes and starts on the 1st of each month.

Comb Bound Notepad with die cut floral cover

I was playing with one of my new CUP (CraftsUPrint) cut files I picked up with my Crafty Bob Crazy 5 minute Game winnings and decided to make another notepad.  This one will join my growing Abandoned Art project bucket.  I love the contrasting colors on this one, it’s very cheery and reminds me of Texas blue skies and the beautiful wild Sunflowers that are blooming all around us.

The covers are Recollections card stock, as are the two layers of cut out design. It has approx. 40 pages and is bound with a plastic comb binding.

The design is Floral Background Stencil with Mats and is available in various cutting machine formats.  Such a fun cheery cut design and suitable for all sorts of projects, lantern panels, card backgrounds,  decorative boxes.. so many options.

Crafting Journal/Notebook/Inspiration Scrapbook thingamabob from scratch

I wanted to try something different this time… so instead of a card I made myself a crafting journal/notebook for this months Challenge project.  It’s something I used to do when I started my photography and I would stick images into a scrapbook….  not the fancy new scrapbooks we see today, just the regular old kids type of construction paper ones. When I saw an image in a magazine that I liked, I would cut it out and stick it in there a a visual inspiration and  it also helps you define your style.

As it grows you can see a definite preference and tastes emerge and  it gave me a visual reference  as to what lighting and poses etc appealed to my artistic side.

CAAB_roughed_cup_wmd…so I wanted to do something similar for my  paper crafting… It will be filled with images and quotes and sentiments etc…  but this time.. my own.  It’s kind of a cross between a diary, scrapbook, notebook… doodles and notes and  quotes ..  and inspiration for my crafting.

I didn’t want to  buy a manufactured book to do this with, I wanted something more  casual and easy to add to. I just happen to own a Comb binder, which is perfect for projects like this…. and yes, those are tea cup stains you can see at the bottom…and yes they were deliberate.

As were the roughed up corners LOL  I wanted a well read, worn,  loved and treasured look to the project.  Have you ever seen a notebook that has been in and out of a teenagers backpack for 6 month or more…?  that was the look I was going for.

This is an ongoing project which will grow over time as pages are filled with quotes and images and color palette ideas.  I could have faked out a few pages for the blog post… but  I will probably just do an update post later in the year for anyone interested.

I chose a monochrome  palette for the front cover for a few reasons

.. one I printed this on cream colored card, instead of the usual white and wanted to tie in the tea and books theme.

.. two I wanted to create that old yellowed loved and worn look and Monochrome is something I need to practice.  Color is a lot  more forgiving because you can use colors to distract from areas of weakness in an image… that doesn’t work in black and white or monochrome.  That’s another thing I learnt from my years doing photography 🙂  Although my darkroom was capable of doing color, I think I used up the samples that came with.. and never bought any more.  I am and always will be a B&W kinda gal when it comes to my photography… I do color… but  for the most part my favorite images are usually sepia or black and white.

Now  some of you saw the project I did a few weeks ago which featured some ribbon lacing on the sides… and I was asked how I did that.  I did it with my Comb Binder machine, I just used ribbon instead of plastic combs ….It’s a fun little machine  🙂

Front cover Image is from Cute As A Button and is called “A good book and a cup of tea” which was printed on Cream Card Stock and colored with Zig Kurecolor and Chameleon Markers.

The cover was double layered with a contrasting card for extra thickness and then comb bound using a Fellowes Comb Binder and plastic combs. Inside pages are Cream paper and there are about 30-40 pages…. more will be added as needed.

Cover was roughed up with a cup of tea and some distress inks… and some general bending and folding of corners  for ages, used and loved look.

I can’t wait to get stuck into  this one..I miss my old inspiration books 🙂

Sneak peek at one of the recycled Playdoh projects in

My recycled playdoh journal project …so far

I finally got time to sit down and work on a few incomplete projects today… woot!!  I worked on and almost completed 2 Ziggyboard chalk board vinyl projects and….

I got to play with one of the recycled playdoh projects I’ve had in mind.  It’s still got a ways to go, but while the glue is drying….I figured I’d give you a sneak peek at  progress so far.

This is such a crazy project, I have no idea if it will end up a fab or fail… but it’s fun trying  new ideas out.  And if it’s a bust..I’l just start over and tray again till I get it right….

The pages are all real and will have decoration on them

It’s actually bound with a comb binder but you can’t see that because of the aged leather cover on the journal… aged leather haha…  it’s actually about 4 years old and is a pair of my favorite boots that came to the end of their life and started flaking…and definitely not REAL leather…. but gorgeous knee high boots with 5 inch silver heels.. yeah Momma!!  I threw them in a tub knowing I’d end up doing something mad with them lol. I stripped the large panels out to use and the buckles and straps too. I need to age it all to get rid of the shine when I’m done assembling it all, but so far it’s starting to take shape.

I’m not 100% sure where I am going with this….

Like I said.. still a ways to go… but a fun project  🙂
