New cut files, lacy bands, cityscape, dots and backgrounds

I just finished up a few of the new cut files I got from CraftsUPrint the other week.. before the birthday shenanigans descended upon us LOL. What a week that was.. full of fun and games and Lego.. and cake… and a lot of Ice cream lol. But now it’s time to get back to my crafting and coloring.

Ok first up.. this is just a quickie plain card, no sentiment or foreground image.. but you could most certainly add them if and when you wanted to. I was just experimenting with inky skies and this fab new CityScape cut file I picked up. To be honest I have a larger project on the go right now using this… but it won’t be done for a bit.  But this will give you an idea of how cool this CityScape is. cuts beautifully on my Cricut, even with all the window detail it has.  There are some tiny nail bling rhinestones on this but they didn’t show up so well in this photo..

This is Cityscape City Skyline, Night Sky for card and vinyl  by Tina Fallon, mine is cropped slightly at the ends….  so  check the link for the complete image.

NEXT !!
Lacy Ribbons 1 with spiral roses by Clive Coulter.  This is a 3 cut set.. 2 ribbons and the spiral roses.  I used one of the ribbons to create a background strip on this card along with one of the new frames I made with the new Gina Marie Designs Dies

DOUBLE PIERCED CIRCLE IN AND OUT CUT DIE SET

and  the

MINI HEART LACE CIRCLE DIE SET

..and A Power Poppy Image “Dancing with Daffodils” which I colored with Chameleon Pens.  I attached it all with Zig 2 way glue..yay for no wet warp!  lol

NEXT

Ok.. this one was just me playing with new stuff I  have.. love this cut file, it reminds me of Morrocco for some reason…  and I had some liquid pearls I picked up on clearance a while back..  so  I  was tinkering around.  This is Compass Pattern by Lizzie Mayne   I added some My little paper world stitched corners and some jade liquid pearls
and lastly.. just having some fun with the latest batch of freebies I got in the Treasure chest.. who doesn’t love cup cakes huh?  the base card is  FANCY CARD 11 by Apetroae Stefan and  the sentiment and cupcake are from the Treasure Chest Freebies you can select when you spend $15  or more ( $10 when on offer )  I only used the top two layers of the Decoupage .. so I still have the bottom layer for another project  🙂

Christmas card with Black Velvet Poinsettia panel

I love how this one turned out …   this is another one of my CraftsUPrint cut files  from a recent purchase.

I used the single panel for this design and cut it from SEI Black Velvet Paper. I adhered it to a sheet of Canson Mix Media and colored the panel with Zig Clean Color markers I trimmed it to size and inked the edges. I made a 5.5×8.5 card base with 110lb card stock with a black boho cut layer and a red and white polka dot layer and popped the image topper on that. I added a corner die cut by My Little Paper World.

What I love about this design is that the negative left after the main cut on my Cricut Explore is equally stunning and would be perfect for another project, or to make a matching envelope. I hate wasting paper.. but specially this Velvet lol..so it’s fabulous for this type of project..

Layers, layers and more layers … & that was just the background!

If you ever have an idle moment and have never tried this.. you should give this a shot lol. This will keep you out of mischief….and so will reading this epic length War ‘N’ Peace blog post haha.

7 layers for the frame, tag on another one if you include the fancy corner.. 2 layers for the butterfly and another 6 layers for the  bouquet…. THAT’S A LOTTA LAYERS lol.

But when it really comes down to it.. the worst part is getting everything on straight, oh and deciding which flowers come  to the front and need the most layers lol.   I have to say of all the 3D projects I have done, this image was probably the easier  when it came to  figuring out how to cut the layers.

7 Print and cut sheets on my Cricut later…  and I have the start of my card.  I colored one completely, I like to do that as a reference when I come to build the actual project… plus it gives me a colored piece to use on another project later ..score!

So I colored one… then started  working out my layers while the Cricut was cutting two silhouettes out for sandwiching between the bottom two layers.  Normally I pop my 3D projects with Darice adhesive foam sheet, but I wanted this one to be a bit more subtle…so I sandwiched a few black sheets in for a little additional depth. The final layer of a single flower is missing off this photo.. DOH

pp_3d_layers_wmd

Once I had all my  Cricut cuts done, I started to hand cut away the pieces I didn’t need on each layer.  When I am doing a one off project, I just fussy cut by hand after cutting the main image.  If I am doing multiples I make cut files for my Cricut.  So I fussy cut  my top 5 layers  and then started to color each layer, starting with  the  top.  when I use Darice foam I tend  to to color around the edges of  the  layer below a bit so it won’t show  when assembled..but with subtle layers like these I just  ink up the white edges with a marker.

Once I had it all trimmed up and colored.. next came the hard part… what to mount it on. Now I  like to take a photo, or scan and import it into my graphics program at this point..for several reasons.  A: I like to be able to grab a cuppa and sit back and just look at it and see where I missed blending, coloring etc… for some reason I have a more critical eye  when viewing it that way. B: I like to play around with layout ideas and rather than waste time cutting and trying ideas and potentially wasting a lot of  card…  the girls on the message board will tell you.. me and pattern paper .. not a good mix lol.  I envy you ladies who can pick and mix and match patterns and colors with ease.  I am not sure if it’s my limited choice of papers, or just that it’s not  ever been my taste..but  good lord it’s like pulling teeth lol.

pp_3d_bwcomp

I started off simply by  putting my original coloring on a white  piece of card and the 3D layers on a black piece… but liked them both for different reasons.. so that was no help lol. So my next move was layers and frames/borders.  I just kept tweaking and adding borders to my image in a graphics program till I started to get a look I liked.

This was my digital rendering

pp_3d_framed_ty_wmd

Once I had a basic idea of how I wanted the frame to look…. that is when I grabbed my cutter and some black and white card and started cutting all those layers.  When I got them all cut, I  took a sheet of 11×17 white card and scored it to make my card base and started layering on the cuts to build the frame (unglued at this stage).  Then it happened…. for some reason it just felt flat, so there I was digging around in my paper cabinet looking for my Black and white collection.  Funnily enough the polka dot paper is the first one I tried … 4 patterns later.. yup I was back to Polka Dots lol.  It just seems classy to me, I did a curtain fold card last  year  in the polka dots and it looked great… so dots it was!

I attached that to the card base with a half inch overlap  at the top, which gives a nice neat look to the top and back of the card. and then came that  time … yes THAT time…  the one where  I always end up gluing all my frames down  skewy.  I blame it on my computer glasses, they aren’t designed for crafting haha.  Just as well for the most part I like to  have my frames tilted on projects lol.  But for this one I needed straight and centered and all that fun stuff…. It’s not perfect, but I think it came out pretty good.  I used my paper cutter to help keep me aligned…yay for paper cutters!!

Ok so all the base layers were on, the flowers layers were all cut, colored and assembled… so on they went.  I had an idea to add the butterfly, but wanted to do a ghost layer. So I actually cut two at once so that the black layer wouldn’t cut all the way through, it is more like a solid embossed layer.  Sometimes if I want to be funky, I do this  double layer cut so the  cutouts from one meld into other layer for a two tone embossed look… it’s kinda cool. Unpredictable at times so a touch of glue is necessary haha… but still looks cool and worth the extra effort.  I’ll maybe show that another time if anyone is interested.

So there was my butterfly…but where to pop it…. top right or bottom left????   I couldn’t decide so asked hubby…. his response… and I had to laugh.  “Top right, I always see Butterflies at the top of flowers… not at the bottom”  He is such a practical wee soul at times, no artistic license or sense from that direction lol.  So  on it went..where butterflies apparently should be lol.

pp_3dframed_watermarkedI didn’t have a particular recipient or occasion in mind, so I am  leaving that blank for now… hence the big space on the left.

So I thought I was done..YAY me.  But  the more I looked at it as I took the photos for this post… I couldn’t help but feel something was missing, it just didn’t seem quite balanced.

Enter Sammy and her fabulous Corner dies to the rescue.  I just happened to have that one single corner cut in my  cuts organizer… BINGO… now I am done!

Bring on the clown…. BEEP BEEP!!!

Here’s a fun card…. it’s a slider card, but I won’t show you images of it open, as the message inside is personal…and not very PC haha.  There are a gazillion tutorials on making slider cards… it isn’t hard to find them if you fancy giving it a go.

Bonzo was print and cut on the Circut Explore, colored with Zig Kurecolor and Chameleon pens.

The slider frame has one of the My little Paper World corner die cuts, which you can see peaking out behind Bonzo ( Another group buy possibly coming up for anyone interested in purchasing Samantha’s dies and cutting shipping costs to the US ..PM me if interested )

The sentiment is  part of the current Freebie Friday  package  for the progressive challenge over on the  Scrapper’s Delights Facebook group, and also available in the store.
The dots were just punched circles  using a green glitter stock and the slide tab  has that glitter card on the tip too.

And that lady’s and gents is the end of this show…. this is my last project as part of the Scrapper’s Delights Freebie Friday DT team.  I am stepping down and making room for a fab new DT member….  but never fear, I am still  going to be working with Nicky on the Monthly Challenge Team and Mid Month Inspirations.

This clown isn’t going anywhere  just yet  🙂

cup_sympathy_wmded

Spotlight Series Day 10, Samantha – My Little Paper World

Who are you?

My name is Samantha – I started My Little Paper World early this year. I wanted to design some dies – I had an idea, so did some research, and went through the manufacturing process. I decided to use my blog name – because I liked the name and thought it would make a cute design logo.

Where are you?

South Australia! G’day Mate J

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously?

I’ve always been interested in Art/Craft but more so being creative. I have no design background, and I don’t have the patience or time (anymore) to draw. So I can honestly say that I started late last year when I decided to stick with it and figure out the design program (after many many tantrums!). I did a lot of Art in high school (20+ years ago now) though and loved it, and I’ve been making cards and scrapbooking for as long as I can remember. But this year is the first where I’ve thought about it seriously enough to create a final product.

IMG_20160325_124303

What was the first product you ever had for sale?

I designed 4 dies for my first release in February this year. Basic designs but original and mine.

What job did you have BEFORE you started drawing/designing for a living?

Well I don’t really design for a living…I still consider it an extension of my creativity/hobby. I am currently on very very very long leave bringing up 2 boys, soon to be 3 and before that I was/am a Registered Nurse.

If you could hang out with ANYONE in the world….  who would it be?….and what is the one question you would want to ask them?

Honestly, it wouldn’t be anyone famous – though meeting someone like Cleopatra, Eva Cassidy or, even Robin Williams would be interesting.  I’d still choose to hang out with my Oma and I’d want to know her German plum cake recipe!

What is your favourite piece in the whole store?

It would have to be the corner dies. This was my first idea – and something I could get a lot of use out of when creating greeting cards/PL cards/scrapbook pages. I already had created the cards in my head before the die was even designed.

Who is your inspiration/muse?

I draw a lot of inspiration from my surroundings, buildings, architecture. I love geometric shapes, and Scandinavian design. I LOVE Pinterest (who doesn’t!!) I don’t necessarily have a muse or someone that personally inspires me, though I have a lot of admiration and respect for those who are in this industry, those who are still trying to make it, and especially those who are the ones designing behind the scene.

How many people work with/for you?

It’s just me! Though, I regularly bounce ideas off my best friend, sister, and husband. I am currently trying to poach my bestie (who DOES draw and SHOULD make a stamp set for me sometime this year! – If you’re reading this you did say yes? Right?)

What’s your guilty pleasure? Ice-cream, Ice-cream, Ice-cream! I’d eat ice-cream in the freezing winter (not that it really is ever that cold here in Adelaide) but that’s how much I love it!

If you suddenly changed careers and went to work at Disney…what character would you want to be?

That’s a lot of characters to choose from. I know I would NOT want to be a princess… way too much prep. work to get ready for the day! Sleepy the dwarf sounds like he would have a pretty sweet job! J

1456054740426

What is your most popular item in the store/shop?

Square Nesting Dies – TRIBAL I love hearing feedback from my products, and when I designed this die I wanted to be able to create a decent sized card with it. I think that this is why it’s been quite popular.

Who was your first celebrity crush…and have you drawn them?

Have not drawn them – and technically the crush was on a ghost… Casper who happened to turn in to Devon Sawa! If I remember correctly I had a really big poster of him on my wall growing up for the longest time. It’s still probably one of my favourite movies!

If you got locked in an elevator for 6 hours.. who would you most like to be locked in with?

Me, Myself and I! Did I mention I have 2 young boys and another on the way! 6 hours sleep – bring it!

Happy Mail…. Some Bling Bling!!

I love these nail art rhinestones… they are perfect for a touch of bling on cards.  I recently discovered that they also fit my  “My Little Paper World” corner dies perfectly too.  You can see that project  featuring a Conie Fong image here.  If you want some cheap bling and you aren’t worried about  waiting for it to arrive, these kits from Amazon are a great deal. I have a few more on the way, but the first set arrived today.  You can buy these individually if you have a specific need, but I wanted a mix of colors and shapes.. so I grabbed this 10 pack.

$8.99 for 15000 pieces, be warned.. great deal that these are… I am highly doubtful these packs contain anywhere near 15,000 pieces. But I’m not about to sit here and count them all LOL.  for what you pay, compared to the regular crafters supplies… I don’t think you will be disappointed at all.  Now these are  SMALL..  and I do mean small, so if you have problems handling small items.. I  highly recommend using some kind of tool with these.   a friend of mine sent me a picker upper thing and these literally suck up into the end of the tube almost exactly.. so if you use this type of picker upper, watch out for glue on the tip  when you place them 🙂

CAS Cute gothic chick card

I got my Scrapper’s Delights “Edie” image mounted on a card…  just a clean and simple card to contrast against the image.

I layered a light green,  over dark green Recollections card stock for the card base, popped the corners with a Fiskars rounded corner on the green  and a Martha Stewart punch on the image.  I popped on a cute little green stitched ribbon and simple bow.. done.  I used my Xyron mega runner 1/4 inch ta

Suitable for a bunch of occasions, so I haven’t added a sentiment till I need one.  If you missed the previous post, this image was colored with CraZart pencils and a home made alcohol blender pen with a smidgin of Ranger Distress pen in places.scrappers_delights_Edie_wmd
