Guest Designer – Lil’ Man D “Thanks” card

The lil guy is getting in more craft projects than I am this past week lol…  here is a card I helped him put together for his grandparents who sent him a card and Toys R Us gift certificate for his 5th birthday, which is on Thursday.

Can you tell he likes Giraffes?   This time he painted up 4 giraffes and then chose the one he wanted to send to them.  We will make up some more cards with the others.  We added in one of the new frames that I have been  experimenting with using the Gina Marie Designs Dies in a previous post  Sneaky Peek.. You‚Äôve been Framed !

Guest Designer – Lil’ Man D ( 4yrs old ) laminated bookmarks

We had to go get new tires the other day and my lil guy.. much as he loves the dealership and checking out all of the cars and trucks..specially the trucks ( he is just like his daddy when it comes to trucks lol ) .. he gets bored after a while.  So this time I decided to take along my portable easel box I showed you in a previous post earlier this week and watercolors  in case they came in handy… plus it was a great way to test it out and see how well it worked out.

They have a seating area with comfy chairs, but also a large eating area with vending machines and coffee etc and part of that is a long bar area with bar stools…and lots of natural light from the big windows.  So we sat down  with some snacks and drinks and I started to color.. lol.. 2 seconds later as predicted “I want to color please mommy”

So here we go, these are 4 of the bookmarks he painted while we were waiting for our new tires.  I had already stamped everything out  on precut  strips of Canson Mix Media Paper and they were in the easel box ready to go with the H2o pen.  The easel box and the Gansai Tambi box are about the same size so easy to grab and go even without a bag.
I love this first Giraffe because he told me he was painting a rainbow on it too ..  I love his imagination, but I am sure glad he explains what some of it is sometimes haha.  Some of these will go to friends and relatives and others will go in the Abandoned Art box.  The Giraffe is a stamp we picked up at Michaels last month.  The father and daughter image is a Unity Stamp co stamp  that I stamped up for me to color, but he hijacked it haha

The finished pieces were mounted on some plain Recollections 65lb card stock and then laminated and a hole punched for them.  A little bit of ribbon and some beads and they will be all ready to go ūüôā

This portable easel with storage is great .. he loved it so much he asked for one of his own so he could bring his pens along next time too.  These boxes are small enough and light enough for a kid to easily carry around and if required .. you could easy pop on a carry handle or strap. Once his is finished,  he will be able to decorate it as he wishes. He loves to paint wooden blanks and boxes,  so I know whatever it is…. it will be UNIQUE  haha

Hollywood Themed Gift Box

¬†Oh what a project this one ended up ….this is the final mystery DT project for the January¬†Crafty Awesomeness Challenge. ¬†A total 360 on the original¬†vintage Hollywood idea, as it goes lol. ¬†I had a completely different project in mind; but after goofing that one up, I went back to my original idea¬†on this single image set. ¬†Then I tried another idea; great concept, not enough time and missing some vital components …. and craft stores aren’t open at 3 am lol.

WHY !!!!

…so I diddled and I twiddled and then I had an idea… so here is the final piece. Glammed out in gold glitter card which I split to ¬†take just the top layer of to keep it light and not affect the lid. ¬†The canvas was also stripped down and then the canvas layer was ¬†attached to the lid. ¬†A bit of ink, a dab of glue.. ¬†swipe of tape here and there and a couple of ribbons.

and there it is, one gift box… ¬†works for either sex as a gift box.. which you can personalize with ¬†a matching tag and ¬†contents. ¬†I will leave that to your own imagination….it is 4:30 am .. you do NOT want to read about mine lol. ¬†This is when the crazy half hour starts lol…… so I shall refrain haha

Image is “George Swooney” by KennyK Stamps

I am gonna have to cut and run on this one..so if you have any questions about what I used, or how I did it… leave a comment ¬†ūüôā

Today is the last day to enter the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge… come on over ¬† ūüôā

My Treasure Chest Freebies arrived…. impressed !

Last month I picked up some extra freebies when I got my latest batch of CraftsUPrint cut files. They have an offer that allows you to choose 15….yes FIFTEEN freebies from the Treasure Chest when you spend ¬£15 or more. Well actually.. guess what? ¬†I just saw they made it even better, it’s now available if you spend ¬£10 or more. ¬†I am ¬†not sure how long that extra offer is available…. so check it ¬†out.

Now to be fair; not only were they offering these freebies, but since it was a phsyical product.. they also offered FREE SHIPPING. Shipping is a huge roadblock for a lot of International buyers… so WOOT for Free Shipping.

Well they arrived this past week, but I confess… I hadn’t checked my mail for a few day..* cough a week lol.

I had two packs in the mail, from two separate orders….so 30 sheets in total. Now I will be honest, I wasn’t really expecting it to be anything great…. ¬†It’s a freebie …. right! ¬† Well I was pleasantly surprised; not only were the sheets all full A4 sheets, the quality is not half bad. ¬†I just grabbed them thinking my 4 year old might have fun with them… but I might have to snag a few of these for myself lol.

You get to choose the 15 sheets you want to, it’s not just a random pick they send you. There was a mix of ¬†no cut Decoupage sheets and sticker sheets, so I grabbed a bit of both.
The designs are pretty cute, so if you make “cute” cards… you will like these. ¬†

Cute critters; bears, badgers and hedgehogs and some of them come with various gold foiled sentiments too.  I picked up a few humorous  sheets too and kids decoupage designs..like elephants, dragons and knights..  then I grabbed some sticker sheets.  A really nice mix of designs to add to the stash for me and the lil guy.

For a bonus Freebie… I am¬†suitably impressed and would definitely grab more if the ¬†offer is still on when I grab more cut files. ¬†You can check out the current Treasure Chest offerings here Treasure Chest

Crayola Color Escapes 72 count Pencil set ..SCORE !!

Well….I did it, I ordered a set…. well actually …….I ordered TWO sets  lol
crayola1

I spotted these a few months ago and shared the info on here and Facebook… but at the time, I didn’t have spare funds to try these out.  Well I decided I was going to jump in and grab a set and since they were priced lower than I remembered and they offer free shipping on orders over $30… I grabbed a second set.  Oh and Thank You Crayola for the 10% discount you emailed me while I  was  filling my cart lol.

I am not a brand snob…. I currently color with CraZart pencils, which cost a whopping $8 or so at Walmart..AND I LOVE THEM.  So I guess a set of “Grown up “Crayolas is a step up and progress.  Who am I kidding, I will still color with my CraZart pencils…. I love them lol.  I am the queen of Mix and Match Media, these will play very nicely together I am sure LOL

But I now have another 72 pencils to add to my coloring  repertoire. It will be interesting to see how these  handle the specialty papers I like to use with the CraZart pencils, like the velvet paper.

So if you are just starting out with adult coloring, or crafting, have older kids who love to color and wanted something a little more “classy” looking than the regular ..need a crafty gift. Maybe you just wanted to try something new, but without the hefty price tag of some of the “artist” brands of pencils * rolleyes

Check these out… they are, or were as far as I am aware only available at Crayola.com or Amazon.com and to be entirely honest, I was half expecting Amazon to be the better deal…. WRONG. …  not this time. When ordering 2 sets,  and by some hocus pocus and trickery….of which I am still not entirely sure lol….  I managed to get both sets for a grand total of…..

Hahaha.. nope not gonna tell you, go check it out for yourself….but it’s a great deal.   Add 2 sets to your cart and if you get the same deal I did.. with free shipping and the 10% discount code they emailed to me..and the “?? where the heck did that come from discount”  I paid less than $35  including taxes and shipping for two sets  ūüôā

…and the regular price is $22.49 per set + taxes + $6.49 in shipping on orders less than $30.. still a fab price.

Free Shipping with $50+ Crayola order

Super excited to get my hands on these and have a play….:)  I have been wanting a set for months and every time I have some spare money, they were out of stock… but not anymore !!!  WOOT

For those of you who prefer Amazon because you get special  bonus points etc.  Here is a link to the Amazon Deal which is  probably a better option when you are only buying one set and have Prime and/ or an Amazon Points card. The Crayola deal with Free Shipping and no taxes is also available through this link.

Perfect packaging for small gifts and stocking stuffers

What a cute way to wrap small gifts… specially those standby gifts for unexpected visitors, or small tokens of appreciation to ¬†delivery drivers, colleagues etc.

  • candy
  • cookies
  • silk scarf
  • perfume/cologne
  • stocking stuffers
  • Blind bag toys
  • jewelry
  • lipstick
  • tree decoration
  • cash
  • Craft Supplies ¬†.. and so much more

This is a great one sheet cut design… only one seam to glue or tape; really quick to cut and assemble… ¬† tie ¬†off the end, stuff, tie off the other end… and decorate as desired. ¬†I actually added a reinforcement band ¬†to mine, for looks and because it will be holding something a bit bulky. ¬†Of course you can make these in any size you want, you can supersize it by splitting the design and using two glue tabbed sections instead and cutting each one on a larger sheet.

Fab way to wrap up ¬†paint brushes, crafters pens and pencils, ink pads, embossing powders, stamps and other small items. ¬†I like to hide presents on the tree as well as under it, so this is perfect for people like me ¬†who like to keep a few hidden presents in plain sight. ¬†These look to be the perfect size for those seasonal stamps at Michaels which we usually grab for the little guys collection. ¬†Fimo Polymer clays would be fun in something like these too… and I bet this would be fab for making small craft kit gifts for kids too. ¬†So many uses ūüôā

This is a CraftsUPrint file by Rae Carr ¬†called “175 Christmas Cracker Box” ¬†I cut it on a 12×12 sheet of Craft Smith from their Silver Foil pad. ¬†This particular cracker measure 10 inches in length and ¬†is about 2 1/4 inch ¬†squared. ¬†The main storage area before it starts to curve ¬†in is approximately 3 and a half inches. But of course, you can modify the cut file dimensions to suite your needs..as I did by unlocking the file dimensions if needed.

rae_crackerboxI added in the green glitter card band and ¬†some matching ribbon ties, a few bells and some die cuts … ¬†very easy file to assemble and decorate… and perfect for those of ¬†you who find wrapping paper and tape to be like attempting brain surgery lol.

Love this file, definitely one I will be using a lot next year…. I am already planning ahead for next years projects.. * sigh ¬†haha. ¬†The fun thing is because of the design it could be used all year round, not just Christmas..it kind of looks like a big wrapped candy.

One Crafty Kid and a Gelli Plate = Craft Hour Fun

We started our craft hour with some bubble blowing paint project to make background papers.. but that was short lived after his second time of sucking, instead of blowing lol. He gets so excited sometimes he forgets not to swallow.. so after two mouthfuls of paint, water and dish soap mix.. we decided we had enough of that idea for the night..and moved on to the Gelli Plate.

gelli6x6

I bought a Gelli Plate at the Blitsy Sleepover last month and we just got a chance to play with it. I say we, since I bought this because A: I was enamored with some gorgeous Gelli Projects I had seen and B: It looked like a fab craft product for my son who is 4 and a half and loves to craft too. And what a hit this one was…. before we even got the paint on it he was enamored by the feel of it, but add in some paint and a roller and he was in LOVE ! There is nothing my kid loves more than making a mess with Acrylic paint lol.

He was painting on canvas when he was one and I have a wooden floor so I’ve always been totally cool with letting him do things like this. As the grandparent were told when they said I was “BRAVE” ….aint nothing that can’t clean up in the washer, or the shower.

Anywho….I wanted to show these off… we tried a few different ideas for adding texture and designs. Stamps work really well on these plates and he has quite a cool little collection growing of wood mounted stamps. BUT …. this is the one I loved the most… his hand prints !! I picked out my three favorites and I am going to mat and frame these…

If you have kids, or grandkids who like to craft with you and you haven’t tried these… I totally recommend grabbing one, even if it’s just one of the small ones. ¬†This time of year is perfect because all of the leaves are dropping here, so tomorrow we are going to go for a walk and collect some to try out on the Gelli Plate.

I’m off to see how big I can get.. because we definitely want a bigger one..and maybe a round one too. These are way too much fun for him and me. ¬†I love doing my own backgrounds and ¬†have been wanting to try my hand at some Mixed Media with him. After trying these.. I know they will be a big hit in this house, with us and his crafty pals on play dates. ¬†I can’t wait to see what he wants to experiment with for textures.

Tools used were just Acrylic paint, a brayer, a gelli ¬†plate and a kid ..if you don’t have a small kid.. someone will probably let you borrow one lol.

gelli_hands_wmd

One happy mommy …. ¬†with some new wall art for his gallery ūüôā ¬†We might even make some for the great grandparents.

Attack the Scrap Bucket ! fun project for kids and grown ups

We’ve all seen those fun Magnetic word sets that you use on your fridge, or freezer .. here’s a way to make your own. Great project for crafty homeschoolers, teachers, business signs or people who need something a little bit different from the usual word sets.
alphamgnets
I was lucky enough to have some tails from Cohas (formerly ZiggBoard) Magnetic Sheets that I could cut into strips to make these letters and words. ¬†You may have seen previous post where I started making letters and numbers for the lil man .. now we are progressing onto words and ¬†so I got out my MFT Bottlecap letters die and off we went again. ¬†I won’t lie… it’s a time consuming project… we all know it takes a lot ¬†LOT of letters ¬†to make up enough single letters to form a decent amount of words.ziggy_alpha3 I probably cut and assembled at least 10¬†sets of individual letters.. probably more ¬†and I already cut out at least 8 sets to start forming word magnets. There are going to be a lot of letters you use A LOT and some you don’t use so much.. just store those for later. ¬†As your kids vocabulary grows, you will be able to use those up to expand your set. ¬†Anyone who is homeschooling already knows that it’s time consuming, but VERY rewarding and totally worth the time and money spent.

These dies are totally worth grabbing because you can use them for so many projects, both fun and educational for years to come.

Name tags, labels, cards, magnets, stickers …so many fun things.

Ok so what did I use?… pretty simple project.. as I said.. just time consuming

  • Cohas Magnetic¬†sheet cut into strips
  • 110lb Card from my scrap box…I have a tonne of this from my Cricut Print & cut projects. ¬†Now they are expanding the Print & Cut dimensions to fit almost a full 8.5×11 this will reduce my scraps… but even so..right now I have enough to make alphabet sets for half the neighborhood lol.
  • Mod Podge I use this to cover the strip first and attach the letters then add a coat on top to seal them in.
  • My Favorite Things Bottlecap Alphabet Dies
  • A¬†paint brush to apply the Mod Podge
  • TIME.. and Patience.. even if you just do a few strips at a time… it adds up to a decent set ¬†fairly quickly

Of course if you are a good crafter who doesn’t have a pile of scraps lying around waiting for that “maybe one day project”.. you can always print your letters on printable Vinyl or adhesive label sheets and just cut it into strips.¬†Less time consuming but¬†I am determined to attack my scrap bucket ¬†before this year is done!!! lol ¬†Plus it is kind of fun letting him add a couple of strips at a time to the freezer, so he isn’t overwhelmed with a tonne of new words.

On a totally off topic random ¬†thought.. just because we are on a sort of educational thing anyway. ¬†We were in Toys R Us today and a lady was there, obviously overwhelmed by all the toys… she asked him how old he was. And I could tell she was hoping he was around the same age as someone she was shopping for. ¬†Turns out she has a young relative flying in for Christmas and was struggling to find a ¬†suitable gift. ¬†She had a set of Power Ranger figures in her hand and asked him if he thought they were cool. ¬†All she knew was the kid liked Super hero’s. ¬†

Well hot damned if my little guy didn’t jump in like the Bloody Toy Ambassador¬†for Toys R US.. and dragged that poor lady all over the store showing her everything he wanted for Christmas lol…¬†with a toy review and running commentary all the way.¬†We started with Five Nights At Freddy, hit the Educational aisle where he proceeded to tell her how great the squishy Body ¬†kit was..and reeled off ¬†all the body parts shown on the back of the box, dragged her off to see Grossery Gang and the yuck truck on another aisle… then onto Imaginext vehicles and buildings… followed by transformers and finishing up with Octonauts.

Poor lady haha.. he talked her ear off for a solid half hour I think while dragging her round the store haha.¬† She was ¬†in awe of his knowledge… specially when he started naming all the body parts… ¬†and yes ¬†he is getting that for Christmas, he just doesn’t know it yet LOL. ‘His Big’ sister in Australia is getting him that. It will be a fun start to his homeschooling science learning.

So proud of my lil man… that is the second time this month he has helped someone out in toys R US who was having probs picking gifts.

and back on track again…

Now I know decent Magnetic sheet is not always easy to come by, but I have used this magnetic sheet for all sorts of fun projects myself … from picture magnets, ¬†to Metal Die storage. ¬† If anyone is interested in what I would call it a crafters grab bag those will be available early next year. ¬†These will most likely be pre-cut ready to go pieces in various shapes and sizes.

Need something other than alphabets, numbers and words? ¬†want to make picture blocks, fun gifts, organization tags….or just have some fun and attach fun crafty items to cards etc … or decorate your locker. ¬†This magnetic sheet is awesome, ¬†everyone should have a bag of this in their stash.

Here are a few  of the other items I have made in the past.. search for magnet on the blog or have a wander through the projects tab at the top of the page for details on those projects.  and expect to see more of these projects next year.. I have some ideas I am dabbling with.
