Have you seen the Cricut Mint Machine Bundle…?  check out that price and all the goodies that come with it.  I am so coveting the new Explore 2… I would love one of these.   If you are totally new to Cricut, which is rare nowadays… but always a possibility..   There are so many cool things you can do with these machines…way beyond what Cricut even show you. Card making, scrapbooking, home decor, kids crafts, personalized clothing, gifts, packaging…… just  the tip of the iceberg.

We had one member on the message board who made all of the signs  for his re-enactment group.

Me.. I bought mine to make custom photo mats then got hooked ..and there is still a tonne of things I haven’t even tried yet.

One of my favorite  things about my Cricut is the aftermarket Adapters I bought,  which sadly are not available for the ONE.. but they are available for the Explore, Explore Air and Air 2 and those are  FANTASTIC. these are pen adapters for the Circut by a company called Chomas Creations and they allow you to expand the range of pens you can use in your Cricut.  For people like me..that is HUGE…it has opened up a whole new world of potential projects that I wouldn’t normally attempt because my handwriting is terrible and my calligraphy skills.. non existent lol.  But not just that..  that means I can draw with so many more pens than before…

One of my favorites and one of the most popular pins on my pinterest page is this.. the powder embossing done on the Explore. Yup.. POWDER EMBOSSING drawn on the Cricut.

This allows me to take  designs and instead of cutting them, I can draw them and emboss them.. LOVE LOVE LOVE this.  There are other embossing pens, including one I made myself.. but these Zig Embossing pens coupled with the Chomas Adapter.. SWEET !!!

Anyone who is a regular on here knows how much I love my Zip pens.. and  most all of them will work in my Cricut with the adapter… with the exception of the  big chalk pens. But that is ok…. because I can outline on the Cricut then trace over it with my bigger pens when I want to do chalk signs.  Way better than anything I could ever achieve by hand.

And of course.. the ..  how could I not share what is probably my favorite paper to use on the Cricut.. this stuff is AWESOME.

It cuts beautifully, looks and feels amazing and gives a little extra something something to projects.

These projects were done with Black Velvet paper, but it comes in a bunch of other colors.. including white, which I love to print and color digital stamps on.

Did I mention stencils…  check out this etched glass beer stein I made a couple of years ago using a stencil I made and cut on the Cricut. This was for one of our message board challenges. I  Just cut my stencil from vinyl, slapped it on..slapped on etching cream and voila.. a fun beer mug  ūüôā

…so by now, if you are new to the Cricut….you are probably beginning to realize the Cricut can do a lot more than just use images on cartridges and on Design Space Access…. Yup you can upload your own designs or designs purchased elsewhere. Card templates, toppers, digital stamps.  I’ve  got a confession… I don’t subscribe to Access, I own probably 10 cartridges.. and I use my Cricut to make a lot of cool projects.   So if the price of Access, or the designs not being to your taste is something that was holding you back ..  never fear… this machine still has a lot to offer.

Print and Cut is fantastic, and when the DS3 ( Design Space update) comes out soon… it’s going to be even better.  I for one.. can’t wait.  DS3 has so many cool new features… admittedly there are still some things I would love to have added on…  because I am used to having them in my graphics programs.. but it’s not a big deal to do it externally and then upload them.

Check out some of these fun projects done using Cricut Print and cut…

These fun ant dies from Gina Marie Designs were in my packet with my last order..just in time for this project.

This isn’t a die set I wouldn’t normally have ordered…. but they are fab for this image and I love how this turned out.  They are one of those fun sets that you don’t know you need, till you get them.

The lattice is part of a set called 3 Trellis Mats by Clive Couter on CraftsUPrint, the set has a bunch of cuts so it’s a handy one to have for allsorts of projects.  I cut these on my Cricut Explore using 65lb Recollections card.

Who doesn’t love a baby elephant?

Here is card No.1 of 2 for the newest Crafty Awesomeness Challenge which is sponsored by.. Sasayaki Glitter this month. The team got to choose two images.. so being a team of 4 .. we let two of the girls pick an image this month and the other two will choose next time. We’ve been friends so long now, that we know each other well enough to know what images we can all work with.. and which ones we can ¬†choose to give the others a ¬†nudge outside the box..without going too ¬†far… * cough haha that would be me LOL

So here she is… I say she, simply because I gave her pink toe nails and a pink bow. ¬†I have plans to make a ¬†few more of these in blue and gender neutral colors too, it’s just such a cute image and perfect for baby showers, 1st birthdays, gender reveals, announcements etc.

Velvet and Acetate fairy layers birthday card

This is one of my latest ¬†cut file purchases ..isn’t she cute. ¬†I decided to go with a bold contrast look and ¬†chose silver glitter for the card base, an acetate window and black velvet paper over 110lb card stock to create this cute card.¬†The Fairy topper was cut on the Cricut Explore from a CraftsUPrint cut file. ¬† The texture on this card is quite cool…. smooth acetate, fine textured glitter ¬†card and then the lush velvet… makes for a great tactile card.

Guest Designer – Lil ‘ Man D – Thank You card and Bookmark

You may have seen ¬†my posts on Facebook last week about my lil man and his first watercolor project…. well he was at it again tonight ¬†ūüôā

My little man was given an early birthday present last weekend by a lady who works with hubby, so this is her Thank You card and a little book mark for her to use in her Bible, or other reading matter. ¬†Now it goes without saying, since he is only 4 …. that he had a little help …SURPRISE !! lol. ¬†But the painting is all him.

He may be a crafty wee soul, but ¬†this mommy isn’t ready to let him lose ¬†with a laminator and glue all by himself .. my sanity is questionable at the best of times .. but not THAT bad haha. ¬†Unlike someone we won’t mention by name who’s grandson glued himself up trying to apply “lotion” to his legs whilst visiting her craft room last week lol…. sorry.. I am still giggling over that one .. my bad.

The images he colored are :

Image #13 РHeart Ants Рby Sasayaki Glitter & a section cropped from Pure Prairie Bouquet by Power Poppy.

The card and bookmark were colored using Gansai Tambi watercolors and a Zig Kuretake H2o brush.

The card ¬†is a hot pink 5×6.5″ from a multicolor pack at Michaels
A background layer of rough cut 65lb black Recollections card from the value packs
The image is printed on Canson Mix Media Paper on my Epson Eco Tank and also had a rough cut edging. I added the sentiment “There is beauty in creation” and a border to the image before printing. ¬†This was also foam popped on a Darice adhesive foam sheet and attached using a double side tape. The card layers were ¬†attached with Zig Photo Tape and the Sentiment which was a cheapie import die was attached with Tombow Aqua.

The Book mark is backed with a light tan 65lb card ¬†with a hint of a border showing behind the image cut from the front, and I attached a tassle from a value pack at Michaels. I added a cute little bead ¬†that I got ¬†in a happy mail package from Francesca at Cute As A Button¬†when she very kindly shared her destash items with the DT team ūüôā ¬†It says “Always” on one side and “Believe” on the other… pretty appropriate for a Bible Bookmark.

I hope you like it

Hollywood Themed Gift Box

¬†Oh what a project this one ended up ….this is the final mystery DT project for the January¬†Crafty Awesomeness Challenge. ¬†A total 360 on the original¬†vintage Hollywood idea, as it goes lol. ¬†I had a completely different project in mind; but after goofing that one up, I went back to my original idea¬†on this single image set. ¬†Then I tried another idea; great concept, not enough time and missing some vital components …. and craft stores aren’t open at 3 am lol.

WHY !!!!

…so I diddled and I twiddled and then I had an idea… so here is the final piece. Glammed out in gold glitter card which I split to ¬†take just the top layer of to keep it light and not affect the lid. ¬†The canvas was also stripped down and then the canvas layer was ¬†attached to the lid. ¬†A bit of ink, a dab of glue.. ¬†swipe of tape here and there and a couple of ribbons.

and there it is, one gift box… ¬†works for either sex as a gift box.. which you can personalize with ¬†a matching tag and ¬†contents. ¬†I will leave that to your own imagination….it is 4:30 am .. you do NOT want to read about mine lol. ¬†This is when the crazy half hour starts lol…… so I shall refrain haha

I am gonna have to cut and run on this one..so if you have any questions about what I used, or how I did it… leave a comment ¬†ūüôā

Today is the last day to enter the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge… come on over ¬† ūüôā

Cupcake thief foiled !! Cupcake Stand SVG

I had to fight off a cupcake thief to take this project photo…. nothing is safe in this house. I have always had a problem with having project photos photobombed by the li’l guy and his menagerie of toys and figures, but this one takes the biscuit.. .. well Chocolate Chocolate Muffin to be precise.¬† No that is not a typo, it’s a Double Chocolate Muffin….I can’t really blame him for trying to run off with it, they are yummy !

I had this fun little quick n easy ¬†cupcake stand file to ¬†make up, so I grabbed a Muffin the li’l guy made ¬†and used that for my photo… damned if I didn’t see a set of sticky fingers run up and try and grab it right in front of the camera lol.
cup_muffinanywho…. ¬†this is a really simple cut file by Rae Carr over at CraftsUPrint… I doubled up my cut to make this gold glitter version… but if you have double sided paper, or are using plain card stock, you won’t need to do that. ¬†I simply attached the two sections with tape ¬†and assembled it.

I have an urge to recreate this in a multi-tiered version to see how it would ¬†work out on a large scale. ¬†It would be a fun one for kids birthday parties, school parties, Family get together, possibly done with a wipe-able platform for multiple use. …. so stay tuned for that one.

Very quick and easy project, simple materials, easy assembly… and definitely a good basic cut to have on hand.

Quick n easy last minute Christmas cards…

I picked up a bunch of new cut files last night ..and despite the shenanigans of the day….

..for those of you not on my Facebook.. 50 degree drop in temps, broken window all in one day… not fun

BUT … despite all that I did actually get to ¬†knock out some quick last minute cards.

christmascard_collage

These are so quick and easy to put together and very quick CAS, clean and simple cards …and the files are so easy to ¬†tweak to suit your needs.

so here you go.. ¬†I have a few more in progress… but here are the 4 I knocked out earlier. I’m having a glitter card session, for a little holiday glam. ¬†Cut Files are from CraftsUPrint Designers.

cup_bow_wmd

This one is a “bow” cut file¬†by Lyn Simms. ¬†It’s a 3 piece cut¬†file, which comes in various formats. ¬†Mine is a SVG file and I did mine on black Velvet Paper. It has a soft flexible feels to it so won’t get damaged in transit. This velvet paper cuts like a dream on the Cricut Explore and just looks so cool.

I added in a black and Green contrast strip which I ran through a striped Darice embossing folder on my Big Shot.

Added in a  black and White floral pattern from my Recollections Black & White paper pad. Mounted it all on a basic Recollections card from a multi pack.

Popped on a glitter card sentiment… and Voila…one quick ¬†fun Holiday card.

CHRISTMAS BELLS OVER THE EDGE 2 by Apetroae Stefan

Another really classy, quick card  you can zip through really quickly if you  need a last minute card.  I adjusted this in Design Space to accommodate a square base, but that is one of the great things about these cut files. they are so versatile, putting  your own spin on a basic template is so easy.

I just cropped this design and removed the score line to make it fit a square background. It’s cut on a Silver Glitter card stock and mounted on a black base. ¬†Very quick and classy card which looks great with or without sentiments and embellishments. ¬†This is definitely a timeless design that you can use year after year with so many variations… it will never get old.

Another Classy CAS card by Apetroae Stefan¬† “christmas-bells-over-the-edge-4”
…again I modified this to suit a square base, but this time I kept it more like the original template and the score line wraps around the back of the card about half an inch.

More glitter card and black… sorry, I love these high contrast color combos on simple cards.

Again no sentiment for me, but you could easily add one and swap out the black for some acetate, or another color. ¬†Super quick to make, justa ¬†quick cut, fold, tape to insert.. VOILA !!! ¬†of course I didn’t forget to make you a card !!! *angelic face

And lastly.. for now at least… this super simple Poinsettia design. ¬†Poinsettia Floral Card¬†by Judith Henry-Grammys Designs

The cut file comes in 4 parts: base, background, flower and circle frame.

I went with another classy black and gold combo. ¬†Love how this one turned out ¬†ūüôā

I still have 11 more new cut files to go… so expect to see more of those ¬†soon… ¬†I love these quick and simple ¬†designs, specially the over the edge ones, they work extremely well with my digital stamps ¬†to create fun and interesting cards.
