Hollywood Themed Gift Box

Oh what a project this one ended up ….this is the final mystery DT project for the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge.  A total 360 on the original vintage Hollywood idea, as it goes lol.  I had a completely different project in mind; but after goofing that one up, I went back to my original idea on this single image set.  Then I tried another idea; great concept, not enough time and missing some vital components …. and craft stores aren’t open at 3 am lol.

WHY !!!!

…so I diddled and I twiddled and then I had an idea… so here is the final piece. Glammed out in gold glitter card which I split to  take just the top layer of to keep it light and not affect the lid.  The canvas was also stripped down and then the canvas layer was  attached to the lid.  A bit of ink, a dab of glue..  swipe of tape here and there and a couple of ribbons.

and there it is, one gift box…  works for either sex as a gift box.. which you can personalize with  a matching tag and  contents.  I will leave that to your own imagination….it is 4:30 am .. you do NOT want to read about mine lol.  This is when the crazy half hour starts lol…… so I shall refrain haha

I am gonna have to cut and run on this one..so if you have any questions about what I used, or how I did it… leave a comment  🙂

Today is the last day to enter the January Crafty Awesomeness Challenge… come on over   🙂

My Treasure Chest Freebies arrived…. impressed !

Last month I picked up some extra freebies when I got my latest batch of CraftsUPrint cut files. They have an offer that allows you to choose 15….yes FIFTEEN freebies from the Treasure Chest when you spend £15 or more. Well actually.. guess what?  I just saw they made it even better, it’s now available if you spend £10 or more.  I am  not sure how long that extra offer is available…. so check it  out.

Now to be fair; not only were they offering these freebies, but since it was a phsyical product.. they also offered FREE SHIPPING. Shipping is a huge roadblock for a lot of International buyers… so WOOT for Free Shipping.

Well they arrived this past week, but I confess… I hadn’t checked my mail for a few day..* cough a week lol.

I had two packs in the mail, from two separate orders….so 30 sheets in total. Now I will be honest, I wasn’t really expecting it to be anything great….  It’s a freebie …. right!   Well I was pleasantly surprised; not only were the sheets all full A4 sheets, the quality is not half bad.  I just grabbed them thinking my 4 year old might have fun with them… but I might have to snag a few of these for myself lol.

You get to choose the 15 sheets you want to, it’s not just a random pick they send you. There was a mix of  no cut Decoupage sheets and sticker sheets, so I grabbed a bit of both.
The designs are pretty cute, so if you make “cute” cards… you will like these.

Cute critters; bears, badgers and hedgehogs and some of them come with various gold foiled sentiments too.  I picked up a few humorous  sheets too and kids decoupage designs..like elephants, dragons and knights..  then I grabbed some sticker sheets.  A really nice mix of designs to add to the stash for me and the lil guy.

For a bonus Freebie… I am suitably impressed and would definitely grab more if the  offer is still on when I grab more cut files.  You can check out the current Treasure Chest offerings here Treasure Chest

Cupcake thief foiled !! Cupcake Stand SVG

I had to fight off a cupcake thief to take this project photo…. nothing is safe in this house. I have always had a problem with having project photos photobombed by the li’l guy and his menagerie of toys and figures, but this one takes the biscuit.. .. well Chocolate Chocolate Muffin to be precise.  No that is not a typo, it’s a Double Chocolate Muffin….I can’t really blame him for trying to run off with it, they are yummy !

I had this fun little quick n easy  cupcake stand file to  make up, so I grabbed a Muffin the li’l guy made  and used that for my photo… damned if I didn’t see a set of sticky fingers run up and try and grab it right in front of the camera lol.
cup_muffinanywho….  this is a really simple cut file by Rae Carr over at CraftsUPrint… I doubled up my cut to make this gold glitter version… but if you have double sided paper, or are using plain card stock, you won’t need to do that.  I simply attached the two sections with tape  and assembled it.

I have an urge to recreate this in a multi-tiered version to see how it would  work out on a large scale.  It would be a fun one for kids birthday parties, school parties, Family get together, possibly done with a wipe-able platform for multiple use. …. so stay tuned for that one.

Very quick and easy project, simple materials, easy assembly… and definitely a good basic cut to have on hand.

Quick n easy last minute Christmas cards…

I picked up a bunch of new cut files last night ..and despite the shenanigans of the day….

..for those of you not on my Facebook.. 50 degree drop in temps, broken window all in one day… not fun

BUT … despite all that I did actually get to  knock out some quick last minute cards.

These are so quick and easy to put together and very quick CAS, clean and simple cards …and the files are so easy to  tweak to suit your needs.

so here you go..  I have a few more in progress… but here are the 4 I knocked out earlier. I’m having a glitter card session, for a little holiday glam.  Cut Files are from CraftsUPrint Designers.

This one is a “bow” cut file by Lyn Simms.  It’s a 3 piece cut file, which comes in various formats.  Mine is a SVG file and I did mine on black Velvet Paper. It has a soft flexible feels to it so won’t get damaged in transit. This velvet paper cuts like a dream on the Cricut Explore and just looks so cool.

I added in a black and Green contrast strip which I ran through a striped Darice embossing folder on my Big Shot.

Added in a  black and White floral pattern from my Recollections Black & White paper pad. Mounted it all on a basic Recollections card from a multi pack.

Popped on a glitter card sentiment… and Voila…one quick  fun Holiday card.

Another really classy, quick card  you can zip through really quickly if you  need a last minute card.  I adjusted this in Design Space to accommodate a square base, but that is one of the great things about these cut files. they are so versatile, putting  your own spin on a basic template is so easy.

I just cropped this design and removed the score line to make it fit a square background. It’s cut on a Silver Glitter card stock and mounted on a black base.  Very quick and classy card which looks great with or without sentiments and embellishments.  This is definitely a timeless design that you can use year after year with so many variations… it will never get old.

Another Classy CAS card by Apetroae Stefan  “christmas-bells-over-the-edge-4”
…again I modified this to suit a square base, but this time I kept it more like the original template and the score line wraps around the back of the card about half an inch.

More glitter card and black… sorry, I love these high contrast color combos on simple cards.

Again no sentiment for me, but you could easily add one and swap out the black for some acetate, or another color.  Super quick to make, justa  quick cut, fold, tape to insert.. VOILA !!!  of course I didn’t forget to make you a card !!! *angelic face

And lastly.. for now at least… this super simple Poinsettia design.  Poinsettia Floral Card by Judith Henry-Grammys Designs

The cut file comes in 4 parts: base, background, flower and circle frame.

I went with another classy black and gold combo.  Love how this one turned out  🙂

I still have 11 more new cut files to go… so expect to see more of those  soon…  I love these quick and simple  designs, specially the over the edge ones, they work extremely well with my digital stamps  to create fun and interesting cards.

Time is precious..share it wisely

In this crazy world we live in it is so easy to lose touch with friends and people you care about.  We’re all so busy with this and that and sometimes you don’t realize you haven’t stopped to breathe for months. Yes .. you over there with the blue face and the Iphone…. put it down!  The latest viral video will still be there in 10 minutes…. chill.

Sure your phone has a calendar to remind you to send a card to someone on their birthday, but the best gift of all…. is your time. Even when you think you don’t have any to spare…. make it.  All those tomorrows you keep promising you will do things, may never happen… tomorrow is never promised for you….or anyone you love.

Don’t wait till your phone tells you it’s time to send a card; send it now.. just for the heck of it, show them you care and you are NEVER too busy for them.

Call them up, go have some coffee, hang out, talk, laugh and live a little..and show them you always have time for them..and for you.  This is a fab card just to let someone know….anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

……of course if you are like me…. the inside will have some humorous comeback to take the edge off that “serious” squishy moment  lol.  Did you really think I was going all serious on you ???  NEVER gonna happen … haha

Ok, on to the seriousness of crafting…

Humorous Birthday Card

I was up late last night working on this one… bad, bad me LOL. I bought a bunch of Cute as a Button (CAAB) images the other week with particular card projects in mind, and here is the first of them.

It’s a fun card for an older friend, or relative…

The inside sentiment will read “Of Course you do….you aren’t THAT old right?” subtle alzheimer’s joke in there *grin

Now before anyone starts complaining that alzheimer’s is nothing to joke about.. understand that I know life is full of serious crap, but I also know from experience that a good laugh and a sense of humor will get you through the roughest patches in life. Once you stop laughing at yourself and the bad times…you lose the ability to find anything good in life. So take it with the good humor it was intended and enjoy.

  • Card base Avery Greeting Cards 3297 I found in my old paper stash from my pre -card making days.  I figured I might as well get those used up too.
  • Gray strip is Recollections Card Stock in a deep gray.
  • Image is  printed on 110lb Georgia Pacific Card stock and mounted on a layer of deep gray Recollections card and a gold glitter card from the dollar store.
  • Image is Pebbles from cute as a button cut with a Gina Marie Stitched Rectangle Die Set
  • Colored with a mix of  Zig Kurecolor, Ranger distress Pens.
  • Dry inking and edging is Ranger Adironack distress inks in Walnut done with an artist bristle brush.
  • Sentiments printed on 110lb Georgia Pacific and rough cut  for ages look. I have a spare cutter that is a bit rough on certain card stock, which is perfect for this aged rough look… so I keep it around just for that 🙂

Loving these Zig embossing pens

I just threw some random background file on the Cricut to give it a try.. and this is about half a page of drawing on the Cricut… admittedly I wasn’t paying attention and the design was landscape, instead of portrait like my paper.. but heh.

Check out the embossing… how cool is that for doing your own background papers… and I bet this would look awesome with clear matte powder for a ghost image….and the Black Magic coloring technique… must give that a try 🙂
