Crafting for a cause… I LOVE THIS IDEA

A lot of you already know that me and the lil man D are into something called Abandoned Art.. but this is something new to us. What a fantastic idea for a Christmas gift for the kids in your life. Some of these lil people are too young to involve in some of the charitable causes we would like to support like food kitchens and such.. but there is still a way to involve your kids in charitable giving at an early age.

This is a totally new Affiliate to me and I am so glad I ran across this one…. what a fun and unique way to involve the kids and teach them about giving.

Little Loving Hands – Kids Crafts for a Cause

I may be compensated for purchases made through links on this page

It’s the perfect Christmas gift box idea  for kids who already have way too much of their own already.

I love this idea so much… If any of you decide to support these charities by  purchasing these craft kits through my links, I am going to donate the money  earned in affiliate fees  from these kits at the end of each year.  Every little counts and I think this is an idea that myself and Lil Man D would love to support.  Please share this blog post as much as you can so we can  reach as many people as possible.

You get to choose from various Charity recipients:

CraftsUPrint Freebie Friday – 1 for the Journal Makers?

The Crafty Jaguar 8×8 Ultimate Organiser/Journal for Crafters by Janice McFarlane  is the new Freebie Friday at CraftsUPrint. WOWSER..what a kit huh…it’s HUGE.

“This is a massive kit, and not everything (extra embellishments, bookmarks etc) is included in the preview photo. I’ve tried to include pages in this kit that I think would be useful to crafter’s especially those who have a client list and attend craft fairs etc. There is lots of room for ideas, inspiration, and hand little pockets on the dividers, as well as some cheeky little crafty quotes on some of the pages. What you include is up to you, and how many pages you print out is also up to you. I am sure this will be invaluable to the serious crafter as well as making a fantastic gift for someone.

The Crafty Jaguar Organiser has a lovely faux leather and fur texture with stitched edges.

Everything but the Cricut….and

..the varnish& glue came from Michaels craft stores….and that is just because I already had those  🙂 This is actually a project I made last year for  my self, but I think it would make a fab Abandoned Art piece, so I think I will make another one ..or two lol.

These are so easy and quick to make and you don’t have to use a state cut out mat frame, but it’s a fun idea if you want to.  It’s a cool project to do with  the kids too… the letters are all pre-cut, as are the wooden shapes. and they come in different fonts and shapes. You are sure to find something  that works no matter where you live, or what your theme is. These wooden shapes are cheap and plentiful and you can find those in any Michaels store.

Of course being here in Texas..  what else could I choose but a nice natural wood and a state of Texas photo mat.  You can pick up pre-cut mats, or buy sheets of it to cut your own… or  go without….whatever your preference and budget dictates. At $7 a sheet.. throw in a coupon… it aint looking so bad  now is it 🙂

The frame, letters and shapes are all readily available at Michaels and don’t cost an arm and a leg.   Slap on a quick swipe of  stain and voila..instant  personalized frame.   Fun piece to abandon… someone is gonna love your project and take it home and hang it on the wall with a family photo.. you wait n see.

If you don’t have stain lying around…  acrylic paints work great too, just water them down a bit and then  apply with a soft cloth and  then seal it.  That allows the wood grain to show through and with all the fun colors available…. sky’s the limit ! The selection of  unfinished wood pieces is awesome… frames, boxes, blanks .. so many options. Some of  my frames are like a $1 each, less if you are a nifty thrifty coupon wielding crafter….  so it doesn’t have to cost the earth to give the gift of a smile to someone.

Most all of the projects  in the Abandoned Art section  can be made for a couple of bucks or less and what price tag can you put on a smile on a strangers face ….and knowing you put it there 🙂texas_frame

Make someone smile today…. Abandon Away !

Abandoned Art Project ~ Pencil on velvet paper

So I was playing around again… super simple project, a framed Sherri Baldy image done on velvet paper and mounted without glass in a plain frame.  I’m not sure where or when this one will get abandoned, but hopefully some young lady will find and enjoy it 🙂

For you crafty peoples who want to know details so you can try this idea yourself….

Image is Fancy Pants Little Pixie
Colored with Good ol’  CraZart pencils
Paper is SEI velvet coconut white
Printed on an Epson Eco Tank

I removed the glass and popped it in the middle of the layers so the person who finds it can put it on the front if they prefer.

KennyK New Release & Club Challenge Card

KennyK Just released some fab new images which are perfect for male cards…. and we all know how hard they can be sometimes.  Check these out over at KennyK Stamps

I decided to try something a bit different and  so I printed this guy out on some Canson Mix Media paper I bought to use with my Gansai Tambi watercolor paints.  This is colored with Chameleon Pens and Ranger Distress Pens.

brewsky4_wmd

I cut a 6×6 card base on Recollections Cardstock, it’s a deep gray/barely black with texture and kinda cool.

I cut a Oval out and then did a partial cut on the image; so that the main image is behind the oval, but the beer mug is on top.  The inside is lined  to hide the image  on the inside and to give a surface for sentiments messages etc.

Then I popped “bubbles” all over the  card with a 2 inch throat punch lined the inside with yellow Recollections card and colored the bubbles through from the front.

Is there Life after Cricut Message Board ?

It’s almost Christmas and I am sure a lot of lucky girls and boys will be unwrapping a new Cricut Explore in a few days.  As with any new toy, we all have questions… but where do you go for help?

Cricut closed their own message board in June of this year, much to the dismay of many users…. but never fear….. Cricut help is still out there. Thousands of users are willing to share their knowledge and ideas, tips and tutorials all over the web.

Two new message boards sprang up from the ashes of the old Cricut Message Board … our own, Crafting Circle ….which was started to keep the bi weekly card challenge group  alive and give it a new home.  There was also the Unofficial Cricut Board,  started by another group of Cricut members.  Both boards are still running 6 months later and are open to new members who need help and advice, or just want to hang out with fellow crafters and share projects.

board

Crafting Circle is not exclusively Cricut…. so you ladies and gents who own other machines are more than welcome to hop on over and join us.  We have sections for all kinds of crafts, however at this point…. the majority of members are  Cricut users.  But the other areas will only grow, if you come and participate and develop them… so feel free to hop in and start new discussions.

There are facebook groups, blogs, Youtube channels and websites dedicated to sharing Cricut knowledge with other users.  Whether card making, or scrapbooking is your thing….or you bought your Cricut to make unique home decor, tshirts,  stencils….and a gazillion other things you can do with this machine…there are still places and people for you to learn from.

No matter what your taste, style or budget…. trust me…. someone out there has the answer to your questions.  If you don’t have your Cricut yet and just want to explore the possibilities of which machine to buy, or you just like to check out all the creations for inspiration…. somebody  can point you in the right direction.

I  don’t post reviews and information on other machines, simply because …..I don’t own one.   If that changes…. then so will my blog posts, but for now my blog is mainly centered around  Cricut and my Sizzix Big shot …and other non paper crafts.

When the announcement was made to close the official Cricut Message Board, a  member very kindly compiled a list of places to get help.  You can find a copy of that list HERE on our message board, it’s available to non members too.  We’d love to have you join us if you would so desire, but it isn’t necessary to access the information.

If you are looking for a  place to hangout and get ideas, learn from fellow crafters and try new ideas and techniques… come on over and join us on the Message Board.  Most areas require registration and new members are under post moderation for a short period, this is simply to deter spam from ruining our board like many others, including the late Cricut Board.

We have 5 monthly challenges as  well as our long running Wednesday Bi Weekly Card Challenge. The Bi weekly is a sketch based challenge with Extra Credit ideas and Ad Colors.

Modern Day – I created Frankenstein Challenge is a monthly challenge that is not card related…  past challenges have included gift boxes, shirt decorating, Halloween containers and  the like.

We have a regular sponsored coloring challenge, Creative Coloring Card Challenge….  which is sponsored by the Awesome KennyK.

We have another sponsored card challenge, Bugaboo Stamp Members Choice Challenge with the awesome Bugaboo stamps as our sponsor and  members vote for their favorite.

We have a 3rd coloring challenge, Creative Coloring Card Challenge ….this one features a different digital artist each month.

And last, but not least we have our I am the Executioner – Card Challenge!!!!, this one is to lean new card styles and techniques.

so all you knew Cricut owners.. Welcome to the family 🙂

This post contains some affiliate links and I will be compensated for purchases made using those links.

List of External help and hangouts for Cricut users

I keep meaning to post this here.. it’s been available on our message board in the guest area for ages…. so here it is.  This list was compiled by a Cricut forum member, Libmary and shared extensively on the forum after it closed in June, until it finally closed down and all posts were removed recently.. so for all of you Cricut users still trying to find  help, advice, groups to hang with.. Here it is with some slight formatting changes:

Big thanks to Libmary for her great list.  It is also available here so please feel free to share the links with your friends and family and fellow Cricut users.
