Over the Edge Bugaboo Girl

I wanted to play around  with some new ideas for my Cricut Explore and Digital stamps so I knocked up this quickie little over the edge card.  The base idea which I  am sharing here has so many uses..  regular card, note card, gift card and money holder.

Because of the way I made it a short fold card you could easily add a sentiment/greeting down the inside edge.. like “Hey Girl”  or similar for a casual hi, hello, hey there… to a gal pal.  This image is Casual Girl, and I mirrored my image for this project.

This particular design was a test piece to see how it would  cut on my Cricut Explore and I love the way it came out… so stay tuned throughout the month for a whole bunch of fun new designs and  ideas using some of the Bugaboo stamps  I have in my collection.

This girl is cut on 110lb Index Card and colored with  Chameleon Pens.  I designed this particular one as a single layer and imported it into Cricut Design Space.. but  it’s also a great one to do my 3D layered Images on too.

Hoping to have a creative month with my little guy, get us back on track after a pretty dismal start to this month…

This is  just one small project idea for  this months  Bugaboo Crafty Challenge sponsored by Bugaboos Stamps… I hope you will come join us and share your own Bugaboo Stamps Projects.

Cheap dies and Shrinky Dink…. surprisingly pleasing to the eye.

When you are on a budget…and a very tight one…. sometimes you just have to give things a try and hope that cheap doesn’t always equate to “crap”.  Now don’t get me wrong, these imported dies are most often NOT of the same ilk as the big brand names you are used to… BUT for the price… they are pretty dang good.  They probably won’t last as long, but you should easily get your money’s worth out of them.  As you all know I am not a huge flowery cutesie kinda gal, so I’m not going to be using and abusing these as often as some people would.

I ran these through my Big Shot on regular card and on Shrinky dink without any problem… well I say no problem, my Big Shot ( ok..it was probably me lol ) accidentally realigned one of my dies over another and when I ran it through .. you could tell it had bent the back of the die … BUT I have to say in all fairness it still cuts perfectly.

Ok ..sooo here it is a very CAS test card with my new dies.  The flowers were cut on Shrinky Dink and shrunk, then colored with Chameleons and a rhinestone centered glued in place. If you want a smoother look to your coloring.. color THEN shrink.

The foliage was cut on 110lb scrap card stock and has embossing for veins… you just can’t see it in this photo.

Butterfly is a spare Gina Marie Designs cut from the “Butterfly & Beautiful Die set”  that I had and thought suited the 3D nature of this card.

Mixing it up a bit – Digital Tweaking!

Some of you already know that I was so Hand-coloring phobic last year and my coloring was all done digitally. Here’s a mixed piece I did in the wee hours of this morning.

The Original Image was colored by hand and then I imported it into my computer to watermark it ….and got a bit carried away lol. Now if you are going to do this, I recommend Scanning your image in. I wasn’t planning to do this… so mine was just from a photograph, but you get the idea.

One of the things I love about my new Epson Eco Tank printer, is not having to worry about printing out large full color images… and running out of ink LOL.

It’s very quick and easy to go from this:
cutebuttonwmd

To THIS ……cutebuttonwmd_frmd

Just a wave of the magic wand,  drop shadow,  and some of the presets like add borders and texture effects… and Bingo!!…  your image is now framed and ready to print.

  • Image –  Cute as a Button “Moving Day”  colored with Chameleon Pens, Ranger Distress Pens and  Zig Memory System writers. Printed on 110lb card stock
  • Digital Addons – I worked in my trusty old Jasc Paint Shop Pro7, it’s a great program for beginners and you can still pick up a copy on Ebay at a decent price now and then.

Don’t be afraid to mix your techniques and ideas when crafting… it’s a lot of fun and handy when you don’t have the physical papers, or embellishments at hand.
