Bargain Hunting on Ebay again

I was taking a break and perusing Ebay again looking for some bargain deals for me and the  little guy to add to our wishlist… and ran across these goodies, so thought I would share them for  anyone interested.  A lot of these are from overseas sellers, so expect a wait  to get your goodies.  There were  so may great finds added to our wish list, but here are just a few of them.

Embossing Folders by  seller 15oceaneshop

There are a lot of fun new designs to choose from and I didn’t see anything priced over $2 in this batch.  Great way to pick up a bunch of designs if you are new to embossing, or if you just want to bump up your design stash.

I particularly like this one… no surprise there really since  I love the Steampunk and vintage stuff so much.  Some of you may remember my adventures in Playdoh a while back… I love embossing folders like this… they make great image presses for Playdoh or Polymer Clay projects too.  I am very into  multifunctional crafts lol… I like to get my moneys worth out of things we buy… so if I can find more than just the traditional purpose for them.. all the better  🙂

Clock embossing folder

Talking of Multifunctional… I love Silicon molds,  these are  great for  icing and confectionary of course, as most are intended.  BUT … they are also great for Plaster of Paris, Polymer Clay and Embedding Resin projects.  Someone asked me once if they could be used for Paper clay projects.. I still don’t have an answer to that one.. but I am probably gonna try it one day  LOL.

I found a bunch of cool molds that would be  fun to play with…. these particular ones were listed by homesale_sky and  this is just a handful of the really cool molds that caught my eye.  These would be great for decorating mix media, upcycled projects or jewelry making.

I also found some really cool metal dies which are definitely going on  my wish list…

How many GMD dies can you fit on one card project?

.. at least 6 LOL

I exploded Easter with this fun card filled with Gina Marie Designs die cuts.  I have a bunch of new dies sitting on my desk ..along with a gazillion other things I haven’t even had a chance to pull out of their packaging and I  decided I was going to get stuck in  this week.  I had no idea till I started just how well the dies I had were all going to pull together.  If you are a regular  Gina Marie Designs  addict, you will most likely recognize most, if not all of these dies.. but for those of you who don’t, there is a list of supplies at the bottom of the post  🙂

Plenty of room for a sentiment if/ when needed too…  just a fun, die crazy card… if you added a banner cut sentiment… that would make at least 7 GMD’s .. or a sentiment die too like the Happy Easter ..or 8 if you  had the stitched sun from the stitched skies set.. which I don’t have YET !

Nesting more dies for pretty frames again

I pulled out two more die sets to play with…. so here you go.. this is a frame made with 2 Gina Marie Designs dies sets. I personally nest and cut these at the same time using my We R Memory Keepers Genius Ultimate Magnetic Platform on my Sizzix Big Shot… but you could cut each die one at a time if you wanted to.

You will need at least one set of in and out or dual stitched dies to make these.. but you could just use a plain die  if you wanted a simple cut instead of two fancy ones.  Just pay attention to where the cut lines are on your dies.  I single stitched die would give you a simple inside to the frame but give you a stitched panel from the internal cut.. so you still get two usable pieces  🙂

I’ll pop in  additional posts, as and when I have  fun cut combos to share  🙂

Bonus ….Custom cut frames with Gina Marie Dies!

Time to get busy and knock out some sample combos.. these dies are going to be so much fun.  They are fabulous as intended with the in and out cuts; but they are even better when you start doubling them up to make frames

… and even better when you start making combos.
I had a quick play with some of my dies and came up with this one which I really like.  These frames are made up of :

MINI HEART LACE SQUARE DIE SET – GINA MARIE DESIGNS

and  the

DOT STUDS ON BOTH SIDES OF CUTTING LINE SQUARE – GINA MARIE DESIGNS

and then this image shows all THREE cuts
…and here is a sneaky peek at another combo…so stay tuned for more of these fun frames.  I wonder how many combos I can come up with without ordering any more new dies lol.  Although there are a few I might just have to grab to expand my frames capabilities lol.  These were made using my We R Memory Keepers Genius Ultimate Magnetic Platform on my Sizzix Big Shot

Gina Marie Designs – In and Out die sets * BONUS CUT !

Now this is something  not everyone has figured out yet about these great dual stitch dies, so I figured I would share… there is actually a THIRD cut. That’s right.. you don’t just get TWO cuts  per die,  if you are sneaky…. you can pull out a 3rd  really cool and useful cut. Just by combing  two of the dies from the set, VOILA.. you now have 3 cuts.

Now let me just say this is not as effective on some of the dies.. specifically the rounded corner ones. as the corner angles are not set up to form a uniform curve on the sizes. Individually you have the perfect corner cuts.. but combined.. it’s not a cut that nests well… saying that if you wanted to do it.. you just get a 3rd funky frame cut.. which you may actually like…. not everyone wants that uniform look.

Ok so what dies am I referring to? not the regular stitched dies.. but the new ones.  Just pop “In and Out” into the search function and you will get to see all of the new  double stitched dies I am referring to.  Now I don’t have ALL of these..and I can’t guarantee that all of the designs will  work for this technique…but if you are buying them anyway for the double cut.. you might as well at least know that a 3rd cut is possible. 🙂

I  can’t show you the full image as it is for an upcoming DT project… but you can get a sneaky peek at part of it, which shows the  traditional inner cut.

Now here is the fun part…. if you nest two of the dies on your cutting plate .. you can see on the left the traditional use, which is the inner and outer cuts… BUT you now have a THIRD cut.  Nesting your dies  gives you this double stitched frame cut too.  I discovered this last year  with my first Dual Stitched dies and  use this 3rd cut a lotWhat a great way to get even more value from dies that are already fantastic value…

Here you can see what I meant about the rounded corner dies… still a cool cut specially if you wanted to decorate the corners, or just wanted something a bit different.  You still get your regular in and out cut.. but the frame.. that’s just a cool unexpected bonus.

These are the 3 sets I just got… now be warned ladies these pierced dies have TINY holes and they are a bit more pernickety than your average die.. but totally worth it for the look you get.  I am really hoping  that Gina Marie Designs release this dual stitch design in more stitches soon.. the larger stud dot  and  all of the various stitches they already have on singles… I am ALL OVER THAT.  I love these dual stitch dies ..  or In & Out as they are called on the GMD descriptions. They need a new name… In & out just doesn’t cover how cool these dies really are lol.

Now I personally found that these cut much better for me on my machine using my Magnetic Platform.  I have read a lot of people complaining about their sizzix Platforms, but I actually picked up a We R Memory Keepers Platform last year on clearance at my local Michaels and it’s fab.  I just run these fiddily dies through back and forth, turn it round and run it through again to make sure I have even pressure. Not all machines cut the same pressure all over.. could be anything from worn bearings, to worn plates..or as in my case last year .. a broken chassis inside that you have no idea is even broken till you strip it down. It worked, but had uneven pressure issues… anyhwo there is a whole post somewhere on here about my little fun and games with my Big shot last year and the Fabulous Customer Service by Sizzix.

As I was saying I just use that WRMK’s magnetic base on these.. I added a card layer below the die and it doesn’t effect the hold of the magnets at all..and then used the thicker top plate from the set.  If you are still having any probs with a clean cut.. be sure to run it through back and forth, rotate  the plates and run it through again..and then  if you have to.. and your project permits.. just rotate  it so the dies go through at an angle.. or 90’s if it fits…. and you shouldn’t have any issues.  The biggest problem is cleaning up the hundreds of tiny cut outs haha.. that stuff gets everywhere.

Metal framed chalkboard sign…Cheers Easy!

This is one project that definitely won’t be going in the Abandoned Art box…  I’ll be hanging this one above my craft desk.  Not because it is a fantastic project.. but because it has sentimental value!  Cheers Easy is something my brother used to say.  Steve at Crafting Ability sent me a sample of the new Slate chalkboard vinyl to play with and I had been sitting on it waiting for the right project to come along.  It’s like the original Black Chalkboard vinyl that you can find on Cohas.com ( formerly known as Ziggyboard which you may have seen on various projects on the blog ).. but this one is a deep rich gray color and has a slight sating texture to it….and I am loving it.

The Cohas chalk vinyls cuts like a dream, clean up really nice and easy, so fabulous for signage which needs to be updated… but it’s also great for people like me who  can’t do cursive or fancy writing.  This particular one is just done with rubber stamps and chalk paint, but  you may have seen in previous posts where I have run this vinyl through my Cricut Explore and  written and drawn on it using Gelly Roll Pens, chalk pens and such.

Anyway… the ArtMinds metal plaque was a clearance item at one of my local Michaels.. under $3, I buffed the ornate edges with a DecorArt metallic Lustre Wax called “Black Shimmer” also on clearance at the same store…. that was $3.99 a pot and I picked up 6 pots in various colors.  Cut to size a piece of the Slate Chalkboard vinyl and applied that

… then popped on one of my favorite KennyK images from last year “Old time Bartender”. He is colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor and Tim Holtz distress pens by Ranger.  I did him as a Print & cut on my Cricut Explore. with the intention of making him a 3D decoupage image.. but decided to go with a single layer in the end.

Fun quick little project  for anyone needing customizable signage..or just a fun piece of wall decor.

CraftsUPrint Treasure Chest Bonus packs project, Vault and Friday Freebie

Some of you may have seen me post previously about the Treasure Chest items I got free with one of my  cut file orders. CraftsUPrint are actually mailing these FREE when you order over £15 ( currently on offer at £10 ) worth of files or card kits.  I have to be honest I wasn’t expecting them to be that great quality, cmon..it’s free right  lol.  But when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the  sheets..AND the size.  I wasn’t expecting full A4 sheets either.. 15 of them.. and you get to choose the designs you want.

If you missed  my previous post, you can find details below

My Treasure Chest Freebies arrived…. impressed !

Well last night I finally had a moment to sit and play with them… and I made my son some fridge magnets for his word wall.. which incidentally is one side of my upright freezer lol. It’s situated near the dining room table so always in view of him when he is eating or playing.. mommy’s subtle way of keeping him learning no matter what he is doing.

He spends a lot of time playing with Playdoh or coloring etc at the table.. and of course it’s a great way for him to “earn ” snacks during the day.  If you missed previous posts about the Cohas Magnetic sheets (formerly known as ZiggyBoard) I use to make his  wall.. I added some of them to some cheap wood cut circles and some of them I just added the Magnetic strip straight to the back of them.
Now the link is to the commercial product, what I am actually using is what are referred to as “tails” and “seconds” so anyone who is interested in buying some of these for projects, let me know. These are perfect for making magnets, and letter walls and using as small magnetic chalkboards. I have allsorts of projects on the blog using this stuff and I love it (search magnet, or Ziggy on the blog). It cuts like a dream on my Cricut Explore, by hand, my paper cutter, My Sizzix Big Shot… so very versatile and lots of fun to be had. I also used it to hang my metal dies for easy grabbing.. LOVE this stuff.

Well CraftsUPrint also just added a new video about the treasure chest, so I figured I would add that in for anyone interested.  If you have kids who like to craft, or you want some fun card or project toppers.. check them out.  I grab a set every time I buy new cutfiles.. in fact, I’m off to get more when I finish up this post as I see some fun new cut files I need to grab.  These are great for  projects with my 4 year old too as the Treasure Chest also includes sticker sheets.

They have added in lots of new items too, check out the contents of the current Treasure Chest right now not only can you get access to the treasure chest with a £10 order, you also get access to the vault for 24 hours.. and that is filled with freebies too. Lots of great card kits.. and they are all yours.. you have 24 hours to grab them for free.

Right now.. these are part of the vault collection.. which includes card kits, toppers and digital papers

Treasure Chest Instructions

and then of course, we can’t forget the Friday Freebie

3D Wedding and Romance Double Tri Shutter Card
Kit by Carol Clarke

and lastly.. but definitely not least.. you of course get your free game AND a chance to win the Crafty Bob Pot. I have been lucky enough to win this twice now.. the last time was over $80 worth .. I had a blast choosing cut files with that win !.

Don’t lose your keys ..or you get a spankin!

Ok.. this one is for the  Club KennyK  new challenge.  RED HOT !

It’s 4:30 am so I am not going to go on forever about all the things used..it’s pretty self explanatory… its a round wood blank, some cup hooks .. silver lattice was done with a wax and then sealed with mod podge in a satin finish.  Chain came from an old pair of my thigh highs.. DON’T ASK !!! lol

and the turtle key chain was chosen for me by my son… yes I know it stands out like a sore thumb.. but he loves it and I love it because he chose it for me… and it’s better than the Lego hotdog he was gonna get me haha.

This is a combo image  featuring “Val Ventura” &  “Jayne Jettpack”  and it’s a combo I have been wanting to do since I saw them side by side on a coloring practice sheet I was doing… I couldn’t resist, I finally had to go do it haha.

The image was print & cut on the Cricut Explore and then colored with Zig Kurecolor alcohol markers and a touch of tumble glass distress Marker by Tim Holtz & Ranger.  Some of the subtle shading is lost on these pics, I’ll try and add a few better ones  later when I wake up. The image was cut 3 times, edges were colored up and glued in layers for strength using Zig Photo Tape, but only the top layer was colored.. and then popped on some black foam for depth.

Attack the Scrap Bucket ! fun project for kids and grown ups

We’ve all seen those fun Magnetic word sets that you use on your fridge, or freezer .. here’s a way to make your own. Great project for crafty homeschoolers, teachers, business signs or people who need something a little bit different from the usual word sets.
alphamgnets
I was lucky enough to have some tails from Cohas (formerly ZiggBoard) Magnetic Sheets that I could cut into strips to make these letters and words.  You may have seen previous post where I started making letters and numbers for the lil man .. now we are progressing onto words and  so I got out my MFT Bottlecap letters die and off we went again.  I won’t lie… it’s a time consuming project… we all know it takes a lot  LOT of letters  to make up enough single letters to form a decent amount of words.ziggy_alpha3 I probably cut and assembled at least 10 sets of individual letters.. probably more  and I already cut out at least 8 sets to start forming word magnets. There are going to be a lot of letters you use A LOT and some you don’t use so much.. just store those for later.  As your kids vocabulary grows, you will be able to use those up to expand your set.  Anyone who is homeschooling already knows that it’s time consuming, but VERY rewarding and totally worth the time and money spent.

These dies are totally worth grabbing because you can use them for so many projects, both fun and educational for years to come.

Name tags, labels, cards, magnets, stickers …so many fun things.

Ok so what did I use?… pretty simple project.. as I said.. just time consuming

  • Cohas Magnetic sheet cut into strips
  • 110lb Card from my scrap box…I have a tonne of this from my Cricut Print & cut projects.  Now they are expanding the Print & Cut dimensions to fit almost a full 8.5×11 this will reduce my scraps… but even so..right now I have enough to make alphabet sets for half the neighborhood lol.
  • Mod Podge I use this to cover the strip first and attach the letters then add a coat on top to seal them in.
  • My Favorite Things Bottlecap Alphabet Dies
  • paint brush to apply the Mod Podge
  • TIME.. and Patience.. even if you just do a few strips at a time… it adds up to a decent set  fairly quickly

Of course if you are a good crafter who doesn’t have a pile of scraps lying around waiting for that “maybe one day project”.. you can always print your letters on printable Vinyl or adhesive label sheets and just cut it into strips. Less time consuming but I am determined to attack my scrap bucket  before this year is done!!! lol  Plus it is kind of fun letting him add a couple of strips at a time to the freezer, so he isn’t overwhelmed with a tonne of new words.

On a totally off topic random  thought.. just because we are on a sort of educational thing anyway.  We were in Toys R Us today and a lady was there, obviously overwhelmed by all the toys… she asked him how old he was. And I could tell she was hoping he was around the same age as someone she was shopping for.  Turns out she has a young relative flying in for Christmas and was struggling to find a  suitable gift.  She had a set of Power Ranger figures in her hand and asked him if he thought they were cool.  All she knew was the kid liked Super hero’s.

Well hot damned if my little guy didn’t jump in like the Bloody Toy Ambassador for Toys R US.. and dragged that poor lady all over the store showing her everything he wanted for Christmas lol… with a toy review and running commentary all the way. We started with Five Nights At Freddy, hit the Educational aisle where he proceeded to tell her how great the squishy Body  kit was..and reeled off  all the body parts shown on the back of the box, dragged her off to see Grossery Gang and the yuck truck on another aisle… then onto Imaginext vehicles and buildings… followed by transformers and finishing up with Octonauts.

Poor lady haha.. he talked her ear off for a solid half hour I think while dragging her round the store haha.  She was  in awe of his knowledge… specially when he started naming all the body parts…  and yes  he is getting that for Christmas, he just doesn’t know it yet LOL. ‘His Big’ sister in Australia is getting him that. It will be a fun start to his homeschooling science learning.

So proud of my lil man… that is the second time this month he has helped someone out in toys R US who was having probs picking gifts.

and back on track again…

Now I know decent Magnetic sheet is not always easy to come by, but I have used this magnetic sheet for all sorts of fun projects myself … from picture magnets,  to Metal Die storage.   If anyone is interested in what I would call it a crafters grab bag those will be available early next year.  These will most likely be pre-cut ready to go pieces in various shapes and sizes.

Need something other than alphabets, numbers and words?  want to make picture blocks, fun gifts, organization tags….or just have some fun and attach fun crafty items to cards etc … or decorate your locker.  This magnetic sheet is awesome,  everyone should have a bag of this in their stash.

Here are a few  of the other items I have made in the past.. search for magnet on the blog or have a wander through the projects tab at the top of the page for details on those projects.  and expect to see more of these projects next year.. I have some ideas I am dabbling with.

Be Beautiful – layered card with watercolor effect

This is my latest project and features  an image by Cute As A Button “Wedding Day” and a bunch of  things from my latest craft hauls.  This is my December Inspirational Project  and also  my No. 3 Sketch with extra credits for the Message Board Sketch Challenge.   Some of the ladies and I are old friends from the Cricut Message Board days and this is a continuation of an old challenge on there. It’s a just for fun  monthly sketch challenge and all are welcome to come hang out and play.

I wanted to try something I’d been playing with the other week, the watercoloring with printer ink.. but expanded on the idea by including some of the new Zig Kuretake Manga ink I just got.  I picked  this particular ink for the fact it was water based, so I knew it would dilute and work with this technique.  It is a fast drying ink that becomes waterproof once dry and  smudge free with Alcohol markers.  Exactly what I need!  I also picked up a Fine H2o brush in this packet…  I have tried cheap versions of these which work.. ok.. but this one is definitely a much higher quality.
caab_b_beautiful_closeup_wmded
I gave the image a color wash with just water and the printer ink, then I slowly layered in a diluted ink to add in more depth and shadow.   It has a very subtle color because I  diluted it and then absorbed the excess as I worked,  but straight out of the bottle.. this is black as black can be. If you let it soak in instead of absorbing  it … the colors are also more pronounced.

The reason I picked up this ink is because  Artists all have their own style of drawing, some use thinner lines than others and that effects the amount of ink you have to pull from the printed image.  I have a gorgeous set of  Gansai Tambi watercolor paints I could have used..BUT  I wanted to experiment… PLUS these inks are waterproof once dried AND I can use the ink with various writing/drawing tools.

k let’s face it.. I just wanted to play with something new lol.  Wait till you get to see the other bottle of ink I picked up….

I added in some really subtle color on the image using my Chameleon Pens
NU00, BL2, BG1 & GR1.

This image was printed on  a Canson Mixed Media sheet  through the Epson Eco Tank.

ok.. now onto  the card itself.  I am not really  a fussy card maker..  but I do like to play around with ideas and try new things out, so now and then I’ll get a bit “fluffy”.

I had some fab new dies from Gina Marie designs I wanted to try out and so I mixed it up with some of those, some GM’s from a previous order, a die from my latest Blitsy order and some  Cheapie imports from Ebay.  And then I  had a play with my Martha Stewart punches….  for good measure.

Starting at the back and working forward..

On top of that are 3 cuts from the Gina Marie Flower Branch Die.. 2 were inked with a blue pad..one darker than the other for  some contrast and pearl cabochons were popped in the smaller centers for some subtle bling.

The butterfly and beautiful  cuts are from Gina Marie
The “Be” sentiment is from Blitsy
….and finally the small leafy sprigs came from Ebay.

I used  a mix of glues and tapes… details and links for the products used can be found below for anyone interested.
