Vintage portrait style watercolored magnet

Well.. what a mix of goodies ended up in this project… I think everything but the kitchen sink lol

This is a new magnet framed with the Gina Marie Designs combo die piece you saw in a post earlier today…  looks a bit different now though LOL.  It had a few layers of Tim Holtz distress ink, followed by two colors of DecoArt Metallic Lustre, a touch more distress ink…. then 3 layers of clear embossing powder.

The image is “Lavish” by Rick St Dennis, which is one of 3 new ones in this style that I picked up last night.  She is printed on Canson Mix Media 9×12icon and colored with Gansai Tambi Watercolors using an H2o Brush.  I mounted the image to a piece of  COHAS magnet using a commercial grade double sided adhesive tape and then attached the frame with Zig 2 Way Glue.

This one will be joined by the other two images who will be turned into magnets too and will be joining my Abandoned Art bucket and abandoned in the coming months.  If you want to lean more about abandoned Art there are links to several Facebook groups on the side of this blog.  It’s all about sharing the happy!

Don’t lose your keys ..or you get a spankin!

Ok.. this one is for the  Club KennyK  new challenge.  RED HOT !

It’s 4:30 am so I am not going to go on forever about all the things used..it’s pretty self explanatory… its a round wood blank, some cup hooks .. silver lattice was done with a wax and then sealed with mod podge in a satin finish.  Chain came from an old pair of my thigh highs.. DON’T ASK !!! lol

and the turtle key chain was chosen for me by my son… yes I know it stands out like a sore thumb.. but he loves it and I love it because he chose it for me… and it’s better than the Lego hotdog he was gonna get me haha.

This is a combo image  featuring “Val Ventura” &  “Jayne Jettpack”  and it’s a combo I have been wanting to do since I saw them side by side on a coloring practice sheet I was doing… I couldn’t resist, I finally had to go do it haha.

The image was print & cut on the Cricut Explore and then colored with Zig Kurecolor alcohol markers and a touch of tumble glass distress Marker by Tim Holtz & Ranger.  Some of the subtle shading is lost on these pics, I’ll try and add a few better ones  later when I wake up. The image was cut 3 times, edges were colored up and glued in layers for strength using Zig Photo Tape, but only the top layer was colored.. and then popped on some black foam for depth.

Latest Haul – New Zig Pens

I picked up a handful of new pens to try out.   By now you all know I love my Zig pens.. these came from a different supplier, I picked these ones up from Blitsy as I was looking to  try out their service…and of course hoping for a pair of the most coveted Golden Scissors.

Alas .. no golden Scissors this  time

… but I have 3 more orders coming…. so you never know.  Last night’s sleepover was fun… I am tired  today, but it was totally worth it haha.

blitzig

so .. here is what I picked up.

Some of the Clean Colors I have been wanting to try… I picked 4 colors I thought I would use most.  I thought these would work great for the Power Poppy Stamps.

2 Chalk Writers ..I had chalk pens  in my Memory System kit, but the white one had different tips to these. I love these chalk pens and the fact they fit in my Cricut Explore with the Chomas Adapters… is totally awesome.

I also picked up some metallics Black, Silver and Gold .. these are also writers and have the fab fine tips I love…AND fit in the Cricut.

I spotted a Millenium Pen and had to give those a  try too..it is like a fine technical drawing tip… much like Precise V5 or the detailer pens.

and last… I grabbed a couple of packs of Daubers.

Looking forward to playing with these … so stay tuned for some projects and more indepth look at these soon.

You still have time to go grab some great deals.. Free Shipping on orders over $29.99 AND

new faster shipping/processing times too…. 🙂

“Brianna Blaster” Steampunk Scrapbook Album Cover

LOVED making this…. Another one of the fab cut files I picked up with my winnings over at CUP the other week.. well actually, technically it’s two lol. I swiped elements of another steampunk card by the same designer and added them in to this project showcasing her clock design.  You’ll get to see that one and more details later this week.

I am not totally sure if this will end up as an album cover or if it may end up in a shadow box frame… we shall see. Details and supplies are below the image.

cup_kk_steampunk_page_wmded2

The page is a 12×12 sheet from a Neutral Solid color pad by Craft Smith. I inked up the background using the larger cog cut out and a Craft Smart Dye ink pad.. very quick and haphazard..it’s intentionally patchy for the overall effect…. so a very easy technique for steampunk backgrounds.

Spotlight mystery box contents revealed.

Well now our winner has her prize and has had a chance to  go through it all and  check it out, I can reveal the contents.  Our lucky winner was Tee Hall  from The Altered Paper, you can check out her post about her prize here.

Literary-Luncheon-banner

Now those of you that were following the spotlight  know that I had requested a few specific items  to be included and that the box was the prize for the Amy Chomas Spotlight.  I matched the spotlight and prize sponsor for a reason, the Amy Chomas Adapters mean… you can use these pens on your Cricut Explore etc …and  one of these items I absolutely LOVE using on my Cricut.

ok so… let’s have a quick look see what Tee had in her box…

The picture from top left to bottom right:

and now for the fun part… I have most.. but not all of these products myself.  For those of you who missed out on previous posts, I am going to add in  some links to some past posts. If you want to see more of the  product from Craftingability.com (ImageAbility) and projects made with them ..just do a search on the blog for “Zig” or “craftingability”.

This is where I get those Zig Kurecolor markers I love so much, you may have seen I recently had a giveaway for the skintone pack  and where I will be getting a set of Zig Clean Colors from soon I hope 🙂  It’s also where I bought my Gansai Tambi watercolors & Wink of Stella/Luna pens.

One of my favorites has to be the embossing pens.  LOVE LOVE LOVE these pens and they work fabulously for writing and drawing in your machines using the Chomas Marker Adapter.

..and then we have  the slate…. I LOVE this slate, but let’s face it.. my handwriting sucks and you can’t run this through the Cricut even with a fab adapter lol.  But there are so many ways to use this slate, it’s gorgeous…. you just have to think outside the box.   Stencils, transfer paper, stamping …or you can be like me and go totally in the other direction.  I love to do 3D decoupage layered images….  so my first project with this slate was this one.

And then of course we have the Magnetic”tails” as Steve likes to refer to them.  This was an extra item I asked to have included, it’s just a sample pack, end of rolls.. 2nds etc.

kk_magnet_velvet

Imageability make a  lot of Magnetic sheet products for commercial and  personal use including the calendar which was included in the prize box.   Now this  means there are end of roll pieces that aren’t big enough to use for that..BUT….. it’s perfect for crafters.

ziggy_alpha3

Steve’s idea of end of roll “scraps” or “tails” make me laugh… and his idea of seconds…even more so.  I have bought retail products with more defects lol.   Bless his heart but  you can’t fault them for their Quality Control.

die_storage

I  have been trying to convince him to sell his “tail” oooo er missus !!  naughty girls… I mean his magnetic tails…  in a crafters grab bag of some sort.  They are perfect for  crafters who like to do magnets, or someone needing a way to store and display their metal dies.

If you are interested in a grab bag,  leave a comment and I’ll  pass them along so he can see if there is enough interest to make it worth them packaging these up and working out a deal for Crafting Circle readers to get their hands on one..  When Steve says  tails and seconds… We’re talking  minimum of 6×6 .. right the way up to 24x24inches.  Don’t get too excited ..the bigger pieces are not as common, but there would probably be a fair selection of sizes in a grab bag.

By his definition –

“Seconds, they have a scratch or bump on them.  Even something you can only see with a magnifying glass is a second.  I would say seconds are better than tails.”

I can honestly say his seconds don’t look like seconds to me …  and even the tails… if you are using them for projects and it’s going to be covered with a design or used for die storage….  no brainer.   I’ll take all the seconds and tails in a heartbeat… I have loads of fun projects they are great for.

It cuts like a dream on machines, die cutters like the Big Shot and by hand or with a  paper trimmer.   Check out some of the projects I have made with… his “tails”

Fridge Magnet Game with ZiggyBoard Scraps
Ziggyboard…. how I love you soooo
You may or may not remember one of the very first items I got from CraftingAbility was  the Memory System Collection,  that set contains a mix of pens  and I love it.  This is what prompted me to request the white chalk writer pen seen in the prize package.  My collection had a selection of those chalk pens with various tips .. but they can also be purchased separately, or in sets with specific tips.  I have my eye on the  writer top set.  Another great pen to use in my Cricut with the adapter.  You can see them in action on  the Collection review, see post link below.

More Bling Happy Mail… got my metallic studs today

I mentioned in a previous post that I had ordered some metallic studs style rhinestones to use on my steampunk  projects… well they arrived today too.  Seems the Amazon bling from China is arriving much faster than the bling I ordered last year ….woot…. my pearls should be here soon.

I ordered 4 of these and so I figured it wouldn’t hurt too tip some out and show you what they look like.  I didn’t flip them all over, so you can see back and front

KennyK “Devilish Donna” Birthday Card

kkrubbers

This card features the fabulous “Devilish Donna”,  one of the 3 clear stamp that I got in the mail a week the other week.  Absolutely love these stamps, the quality of the images is top notch ….and for me that is huge because I am a big digital stamp user and used to high res quality images 🙂 Now admittedly it’s a bit of a shock to the system for someone like me, who tends to “go big or go home”  LOL.  Suddenly I am size restricted…and yes I know..size isn’t everything.

But it does take a bit of getting used to for me coloring at a smaller size.  Usually when I print my KennyK’s out they are at least 150-200% bigger than a physical stamp.. heh.. what can I say.  Now the funny thing about this one is,  I colored her by hand then imported her into my graphics program to do the  background and text ….and then  printed her smaller than the original stamp.  Go figure !

Devious_Donna_wmdfnl

No matter how many time I try to photograph this dang card… I just can’t seem to get a clean shot. It has so much going on and metallics, specialty papers… *rolleyes.  So I aplogize for the not so fab quality of the pics on this one…

devilish_peek

I have the original stamped and colored version, which is going on another project, hopefully before the end of the month.

_hells _belles3wmd

And here is the digitally manipulated background and text.

This was printed out on some fab Polysilk Adhesive paper, which is almost impossible to find now.  I have had this paper for.. hmm  at least 13 years.

I have a bunch of fab specialty papers from that time that I just can’t seem to get hold of anymore and even though some of them are available for wholesale, I am not finding them for sale in the US on a retail level  :/

Oriental lacquer meets playdoh

playdoh_fin_frame2

Well here it is.. the final piece.  I sat on this a few days contemplating whether to do anything more to this piece

… and I decided in the end that I  like it the way it was and anything extra would be overkill.

playdoh_fin_base

This is a project that  you can do with your kids or by yourself.. obviously the variety in styles and tastes make this a great way to incorporate this  idea into any Decor style depending on the recipient.

I think I will try a more sedate softer style on my next piece… not because I like it.. but just to see  how different it can be.

Now let me be clear, if you haven’t already figured this  out for yourselves.. I’m not a big fan of “perfection” I kinda like quirky and character. These Playdoh pieces were not pressed and punched perfectly, they aren’t all uniform thickness ..some have chunks missing, cracks, detail is lopsided.

My son helped press these and I don’t care that they aren’t perfect… they are perfect to me, because he did  them  with me.

playdoh_plain

So  that said… you can, if it’s your thing.. roll this Playdoh out perfectly, re-roll anything that doesn’t punch perfectly and imprint perfectly… you can redo anything that has a crack, or a chunk missing or ..whatever imperfections you don’t want on your projects…

I’m not looking for everyone to go WOW.. her project is  awesome.

I just want you to go.. WOW.. you can do stuff like that with crappy old Playdoh?

It’s impossible to appeal to everyone’s tastes all of the time, but it’s not impossible to appeal to someone’s creativity and imagination.  So when you look at this…. look at the ideas and consider what you could do within your own taste in color and styles.   Imagine how different this would look if it were just grouped in one corner on a distressed frame done in pastels …or a red frame with white flowers.. can you say BOLD !!!

So ignore the colors and the layout and .. hell just ignore all of it and let your imagination run wild.  Oh the crazy things you could do !

playdoh_frame_plainframe_playdohplaydoh_fin_closeupplaydoh_fin_frame

And now for the really technical bits…

MDF frame I had kicking around, it came from Michaels a few years ago
Old mixed up Playdoh
Fondant icing plunger cutters from Hobby Lobby
Black enamel spray paint I had kicking around
Wink of Luna metallic pens ..sorry Steve… I know I know they aren’t meant for Playdoh…. but they work so well LOL
Rubber stamps for scroll work

Are you ready ??.. play close attention this gets very technical…..

  1.  Dig out some old Playdoh
  2. Roll out said old Playdoh
  3. cut, plunge, press  and release  ..sounds like an animal program for stray cats lol
  4. Throw it on a baking sheet
  5. Bake at the lowest temp your oven will allow for at least 4 hours…, or let it air dry.  Set a timer on the  oven… It won’t hurt the Playdoh to forget about it at that temp… but you might as well save your electric right.  Yeah I forgot about mine and baked it for a good 8 or so hours lol ..DOH! Now the next steps depend entirely on your project and the effect you are after.  If you want a different color background…. Spray your flowers, shapes etc. and decorate the background BEFORE gluing them on.. I wanted all black, so I glued then sprayed.

Once it was dry, I simply ran some Wink of Luna markers over them to pick up the pattern on the Playdoh. If you don’t have those; you could use acrylic paints and rub it over with a stiff brush, or use your finger.. just to highlight.  Once that was done I used ..again.. sorry Steve *grin… Wink of Luna markers to coat some rubber stamp scrolls and slapped them on there….and I do mean slapped.

Remember I had pre-glued my flowers etc, so there was no way to use a stamp block.  It wasn’t meant to look “perfectly” stamped..

And there it is.. another fun way to use crappy old Playdoh.  I bet this would work great on a Victorian style lace and pearls frame in pinks and creams ..or a box frame.

ooh the possibilities

Quick update on the playdoh project

Img_2943

I haven’t forgotten about this one I promise, it’s way too much fun to forget.

I’ve ordered a few things that I really want to use on these projects… so I am just waiting for them to arrive.

I discovered my spare paper-cutter trims these playdoh sheets up quite well if you don’t need the torn edge look.  They are still a bit flexible, but you still need to be careful not to break it. Probably best to trim them down while it’s still soft if you know you want clean edges though.

The ones pictured above are a mixture of embossing, inking and spray paint with metallic highlights… so many cool ways to decorate this stuff.  If anyone else is giving this a go… be sure to share your work….I’d love to see it.  I picked up a bunch of new things to try out with this recycle playdoh idea. Super Excited to get cracking on this one again.

It’s funny how many of my mommy friends are like  OH GOD yeah we have a tonne of crappy old playdoh… this project has them excited.  We should be in good shape for quite some time, Grandma keeps picking up new pots when she finds them on sale and sending them over LOL.

Hopefully Part II won’t be much longer… depends on shipping!  I’m excited to see how this new stuff works for this…. it could be a  total bomb , or really cool.

But heh, that’s what crafting is about right….  how can you try new things if nothing ever goes  wrong?
