You still have time to grab it and enter our Bugaboo Crafty Challenge before the 15th too…. even more chance to snag some fab freebies  from Bugaboo Stamps if you are our random winner.

While you are there don’t forget to check out the New Releases 🙂  I saw a fun new  one of a guy with a lawn mower… another fun male image to grab for those guy cards.

Did you know CraftsUPrint have digi’s too.. who knew !!

I had seen one or two of them before..but didn’t realize just how many they have.

There is one artist in particular who has some real fun images.  I grabbed a bunch and had a little coloring fun last night. These were print and cut on the Cricut Explore on 110lb card, the colored with various pens…. Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor and some new detailer pens I grabbed to try by Sargent Arts & Sharpie.

I made these up into a couple of cards and a frame for one of my small watercolored stamps I got from LDRS Creatives this past week… lots of fun designs so if you are looking for some character Digi’s and haven’t found what you were looking for, check them out.  The artist is Gordon Fraser and you can find his gallery here Gordon Fraser – CraftsUPrint Designer.

I have a bunch more of these fun digi’s  to get colored up… so expect to see more from this artist in the coming month.

Metal framed chalkboard sign…Cheers Easy!

This is one project that definitely won’t be going in the Abandoned Art box…  I’ll be hanging this one above my craft desk.  Not because it is a fantastic project.. but because it has sentimental value!  Cheers Easy is something my brother used to say.  Steve at Crafting Ability sent me a sample of the new Slate chalkboard vinyl to play with and I had been sitting on it waiting for the right project to come along.  It’s like the original Black Chalkboard vinyl that you can find on Cohas.com ( formerly known as Ziggyboard which you may have seen on various projects on the blog ).. but this one is a deep rich gray color and has a slight sating texture to it….and I am loving it.

The Cohas chalk vinyls cuts like a dream, clean up really nice and easy, so fabulous for signage which needs to be updated… but it’s also great for people like me who  can’t do cursive or fancy writing.  This particular one is just done with rubber stamps and chalk paint, but  you may have seen in previous posts where I have run this vinyl through my Cricut Explore and  written and drawn on it using Gelly Roll Pens, chalk pens and such.

Anyway… the ArtMinds metal plaque was a clearance item at one of my local Michaels.. under $3, I buffed the ornate edges with a DecorArt metallic Lustre Wax called “Black Shimmer” also on clearance at the same store…. that was $3.99 a pot and I picked up 6 pots in various colors.  Cut to size a piece of the Slate Chalkboard vinyl and applied that

… then popped on one of my favorite KennyK images from last year “Old time Bartender”. He is colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor and Tim Holtz distress pens by Ranger.  I did him as a Print & cut on my Cricut Explore. with the intention of making him a 3D decoupage image.. but decided to go with a single layer in the end.

Fun quick little project  for anyone needing customizable signage..or just a fun piece of wall decor.

Ancient Egypt Pop Out Stepper Birthday Card

I decided against a Halloween themed card for this image …and went for something totally different.  The  “twist” was to do a pop out, or stepped card and I just happened to have a cut file for step cards that I had picked up last year from Rae Carr on Craftsuprint.  It needed a little modification to fit in with my Egyptian theme… but the file was exactly what I needed for this.

The front of the card is very unassuming, all the action is on the  inside.  This was one of my supersized cards… the card base and stepped insert were cut from 11×17 card..so  this resulted in a hefty 8.5×11 card…. Kewl !!!

The front was a printed 8.5×11 sheet that I colored with  a mix of Chameleon and Zig Kurecolor pens..and a touch of Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Ink pens.  The edges were distressed with Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads.  Very “rustic” coloring to keep in the ancient theme. The background was dry inked ( fat brush and inkpads)  for a worn and weathered look.

The inside stepper was cut to form a pyramid shape and was also dry inked to give a sandstone type look to it.  The lettering was done using  My favorite things, Die-namics Bottlecap dies. The palm trees were from another Scrapper’s Delights  collection and worked perfectly for this project.

SD_FF_mummy_stepper_wmd SD_FF_mummy_inner_wmd

I just cut the pyramid shape out of the palm image, so that it wasn’t bulky behind the pyramid.  The sky was also dry inked using Craft Smart ink pads.  The base was printed on white card and cut to fit the pyramid stepper base.

….so there we have it.. a quick, fun, old age humor card

 Supplies used:

11×17  110lb Neenah Index card for base and  stepper insert
8.5×11 regular inkjet paper for the cover image
Recollections card in muted tones for the lettering
8.5×11 110lb index card for the Birthday sentiment

Inside images printed on 8.5 x 11 110lb index card

Mummy – The Mummy
Palm Trees –  Jungle Palms

Colored with:

Chameleon pens

Zig Kurecolor ( full color range)

Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Pens

Spotlight Series Day 4 – Carol Clarke, CUP Designer

craftsuprint_aff
Who are you ?

Carol Clarke, I’m a self employed Artist & Designer, wife, mum of 3 & grandma of 6!

Designer Showcase

Where are you ?

I live and work in a village in  Nottinghamshire.  My commute is horrendous … I roll out of bed, stagger down the stairs …. and settle down with my laptop …. absolutely awful I know …. but I mostly manage to get to work on time every day! lol

When did you first start drawing/designing seriously?

It was around 2006 when I first offered designs for sale but I had been cardmaking for a long while but couldn’t find any designs I liked so I had been drawing my own for a long while …. other cardmakers saw them and wanted to know where to buy them so around 2006 I started putting them on CDs to sell …. and it blossomed from there!!

Dressing_the_Tree

What was the first product you ever had for sale?

My earliest products were listed on eBay and those listings are long gone …. but this is the 1st item I offered for sale on Craftsuprint in 2009

“Dressing the Tree”

Favorite quote?

My Grandma said ‘Never mind the dust it will still be there when the children have grown up’  She was so right!!

What’s your guilty pleasure ?

chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!

On_ the_Beach_Old_Man_Ken

What is your favorite piece in the whole store?

“Old Man Ken on the Beach” reminds me of my Dad who will be 90 this year and he always wore a string vest and rolled his trousers up on the beach when I was a child.

How many people work with/for you?

Me, me and only me …. unless you count my hubby who keeps me well supplied with coffee throughout the day! lol

What  job did you have BEFORE you started  drawing/designing for a living?
 I was a doctor’s receptionist and secretary

What’s your favorite color?

Pink …. and I love it even more if it’s got polka dots on it!

What was your favorite subject in school…?

I loved art but I had to give it up in the 3rd year as my parents thought needlework would be a better O Level to take.  They were right in that I not only got an A in Needlework but I went on to make my children’s clothes on an old Singer Treadle sewing machine (and knitted/crocheted all their woollies too) which saed me lots of money when they were small.   but it’s ironic that I went on to make my living from Art! I did go back to school and Art College as an Adult returner once my children were older and took 3 GCSE’s and an A level in Art …. getting A’s in all of those too!

When no one is listening…. do you sing in the shower?

Oh YES …. unfortunately for anyone who is listening!

What is your most popular item in the store/shop?

This Carousel card has been very popular with customers

3DCarousel

When you get the midnight munchies… what do you grab?

Chocolate, love the stuff …. and I’m sure midnight calories don’t count … they don’t … do they???!!

How long does the average design/art work take from concept to final product?

It varies from but My On the Shelf Cards was the longest at over a year to get from my head to fruition.  They normally start with an idea or question …. like … Is it possible?   I wonder if I can?  How can I do that?   Will this work? etc

When you are working, what is the view from your window like

Looking over the decking and the garden to the fields at the bottom of the garden and then the Derbyshire hills in the distance … we get cows trimming any plants that dare to grow too high! lol

Kuretake Photo Tape…. I’m in LOVE..Foamtastic !!!

Some of you may recall previous posts/facebook conversations where I expressed my frustration at finding an affordable solution to my foam padding issue.  I like to use it in sheets as opposed to dots etc.  I find  using it on larger areas behind an image, provides more support and a really nice feel.

Wet glues.. too wet… large areas=wet warp ….ugg, my other tape runner…  love it… but not strong enough for the foam.  But NOW…. I think I found one solution, well …. technically….it found me…. Kuretake  Photo Tape.

Tape_DispenserTape_Cartridge
I got this sent to me to play around with by my friends at ImageAbility.  Over the months we’ve discussed various crafting frustrations I have, they have a  wide selection of products through the various departments…  and I’m crazy enough to find a solution where it wasn’t intended lol.   I’m not sure he had this particular issue in mind when he sent it… but I am sooo glad he did.

At first glance I thought this was going to be another one of those 3 swipes you are out kinda little tape runners.   But on closer inspection… it  has as much tape as my big Mega Runner ….  32 meters (about 105 feet!) of 10mm wide tape.

The Kuretake Photo Tape dispenser is one of the small “in your hand” variety, but don’t be fooled… it’s got staying power.

I was convinced when I saw it that it would be just as hard to get it to work on foam as everything else I have tried… but I guess either the mesh design makes a difference, or the tape is stronger than I am used to.  I did a test piece when I first got it and  it’s stuck on their real good.

If you have been struggling with specific papers, card or  materials… and  your everyday tape runners just aren’t cutting it…. you might want to give this a look see.

... don’t forget to  grab your codes below.

Quick n simple Make it Crafty – “Flirty Seniors” card

I love this image from Make it Crafty…. so many  fun sentiments that could be used with this one. I haven’t added the sentiment yet, still working on it, but wanted to share this image in case anyone else was looking for a cute  and humorous card for an older friend or relative. It would work great for an anniversary card, or birthday card too.

Sentiment ideas.. “75 and Still Rockin’ all night long!” ( age can be modified to suit )

“Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll … well according to Meatloaf, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad”

I colored this one with Ranger Distress pens and cut the stitched  edge with a Gina Marie Rectangular stitched die. Very quick and simple, but cute card.

Humorous Birthday Card

I was up late last night working on this one… bad, bad me LOL. I bought a bunch of Cute as a Button (CAAB) images the other week with particular card projects in mind, and here is the first of them.

It’s a fun card for an older friend, or relative…

The inside sentiment will read “Of Course you do….you aren’t THAT old right?” subtle alzheimer’s joke in there *grin

Now before anyone starts complaining that alzheimer’s is nothing to joke about.. understand that I know life is full of serious crap, but I also know from experience that a good laugh and a sense of humor will get you through the roughest patches in life. Once you stop laughing at yourself and the bad times…you lose the ability to find anything good in life. So take it with the good humor it was intended and enjoy.
