Artist Palette Wall Art “I must Protest”

Bloobel stamps  have a new Progressive Challenge image for January, “I must Protest” .  I have been playing with non-card projects this year and this was perfect for some art fun.

I imported the image into Cricut Design Space and did a print and cut, colored it with Chameleon Pens and then  print and cut a few extra placards to complete the theme.

Someone recently called me a colorist, and I do NOT consider myself a colorist.. sorry  it just sounds so pretentious to call a scribbler like me a colorist LOL.. I love my crafting.. but I have no  illusions of grandeur about my skill, or lack of lol. I am too much of a tangent head and experimental crafter to ever claim  to be a “colorist”

..so it just fit  my sense of humor.

I grabbed a wooden paint palette blank  and squirted on some paint, left it to dry  with a cutout  to  maintain shape for my image in the  paint, this gave it a more 3D effect as it wraps around the  image instead of just being flat.

I stuck everything down with a thin coat of Mod Podge and then gave it a top coat using a sponge for a satin effect.

Love the Image Lisa… thanks for letting me join in  🙂

for anyone struggling to read this

“I am not a colorist”

“I love all colors equally”

“Well except Puce
That sounds to much like PUKE !”

Crayola Color Escapes 72 count Pencil set ..SCORE !!

Well….I did it, I ordered a set…. well actually …….I ordered TWO sets  lol
crayola1

I spotted these a few months ago and shared the info on here and Facebook… but at the time, I didn’t have spare funds to try these out.  Well I decided I was going to jump in and grab a set and since they were priced lower than I remembered and they offer free shipping on orders over $30… I grabbed a second set.  Oh and Thank You Crayola for the 10% discount you emailed me while I  was  filling my cart lol.

I am not a brand snob…. I currently color with CraZart pencils, which cost a whopping $8 or so at Walmart..AND I LOVE THEM.  So I guess a set of “Grown up “Crayolas is a step up and progress.  Who am I kidding, I will still color with my CraZart pencils…. I love them lol.  I am the queen of Mix and Match Media, these will play very nicely together I am sure LOL

But I now have another 72 pencils to add to my coloring  repertoire. It will be interesting to see how these  handle the specialty papers I like to use with the CraZart pencils, like the velvet paper.

So if you are just starting out with adult coloring, or crafting, have older kids who love to color and wanted something a little more “classy” looking than the regular ..need a crafty gift. Maybe you just wanted to try something new, but without the hefty price tag of some of the “artist” brands of pencils * rolleyes

Check these out… they are, or were as far as I am aware only available at Crayola.com or Amazon.com and to be entirely honest, I was half expecting Amazon to be the better deal…. WRONG. …  not this time. When ordering 2 sets,  and by some hocus pocus and trickery….of which I am still not entirely sure lol….  I managed to get both sets for a grand total of…..

Hahaha.. nope not gonna tell you, go check it out for yourself….but it’s a great deal.   Add 2 sets to your cart and if you get the same deal I did.. with free shipping and the 10% discount code they emailed to me..and the “?? where the heck did that come from discount”  I paid less than $35  including taxes and shipping for two sets  🙂

…and the regular price is $22.49 per set + taxes + $6.49 in shipping on orders less than $30.. still a fab price.

Free Shipping with $50+ Crayola order

Super excited to get my hands on these and have a play….:)  I have been wanting a set for months and every time I have some spare money, they were out of stock… but not anymore !!!  WOOT

For those of you who prefer Amazon because you get special  bonus points etc.  Here is a link to the Amazon Deal which is  probably a better option when you are only buying one set and have Prime and/ or an Amazon Points card. The Crayola deal with Free Shipping and no taxes is also available through this link.

Faery Ink WIP project for a budding hairdresser

I’ve been playing around a lot lately (.. as you may have noticed lol), with various new pens, pencils and paints etc and lots of different artists.  This is just a WIP, there is absolutely no. …no ..NO ..way I could managed a  new project for every spotlight, but I can share my WIP’s, colorings and  showcase the images I have, or want to have in my collection.

Make sure you swing by the  main intro post  and  this of course is Faery Ink…. my Day 1 spotlight guest 🙂

This is one I started playing with last week “Bella Spring Magic“,  obviously things have  been a bit crazy hectic round here..<<INSERT STAGE LAUGH and major understatement HERE.  but I wanted to try out my new Zig Kurelcolor and Chameleon pens sets.  I just recently got the Chameleon Skintone set from their new extended palette and the Kurecolor Hair and muted tones pack… loving  both of these pen sets.

Throw in a little Tim Holtz Ranger Distress, Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust and a wizz over with some white & clear Wink of Stella… and we have a twinkle twinkle fit for a little girl I know in Canada who just became a big sister last month

…. and just happens to be a blonde.  I shall post the finished card later when it is done… 🙂
faery_ink_orb_wmded
Funny Story:  Aforementioned young lady also has, or should I say HAD lovely long hair too…. which trust me her mom waited FOREVER for it to grow. The morning of her maternity photo shoot a few months back…. her daughter went in the bathroom and hacked chunks of it out with scissors.

Her reasoning, she “wanted to look pretty for the photoshoot” LOL
faery_ink1_wmd

Fast fwd a few hours later; so they get home and my friend goes to do something in the kitchen…. next things she knows, her daughter has once again decided to go at her hair. Now this is a kid who has had access to scissors for play and craft for well over a year with no incidents at all…. well not with scissors anyway…. lol…. we shall leave it at that haha.

Let’s just say I consider myself highly fortunate, my son and her daughter were born at the same time…. we were on a pregnant chicks board and that is how we met… .and I have not had to deal with half the things her daughter has got up to.  She’s a wee monkey at times lol.

Anywho, back to the hair, we have come to the conclusion that after having her first “real” haircut a few weeks earlier… she was probably role playing at being a hair dresser.

faery_ink2_wmd
Its shall grow back…. I’m just waiting to find out what her next escapade will be  LOL.

Thank you Faery Ink for this fabulous image, I think I have the perfect CraftsUprint card base cut file for this one… 🙂

Sneaky Peek at the new Chameleon Skin Tones 5 pack

chameleon_skintones

I got my new Chameleon skintones in the mail this week.. I have had a quick play with them,  just to see how they are straight out of the pen, no blender…. and then I had a mix and match  blending session to see how they all worked together and see what combo’s I might like.

So far I have to say I am LOVING these new skintones.

It was the only minor let down for me in the original pack.. As a card maker using a lot of digital stamps with skin….the two skintones were cool…. they just weren’t quite “my colors”.   But now with the addition of this new 5 pack… OMG I love these. The 7 colors are fab,  NU0, NU00 and BR4 are my personal favorites and suit my style….some work great solo and others are definitely ones that need to be blended, or mix n matched with others… so much more variety  now with the additional 5 colors.

First impressions.. LOVE THESE.   They nailed the base color skintones  this time.  If you have the original 22 piece, I highly recommend you grab these 5 packs…or if you are feeling flush ..the expanded set.

I can’t wait to get the entire expanded palette …. I am specially eager to get my hands on some new gray tones.

These practice sheets feature  images from KennyK Stamps, they are perfect for practicing  the skin and hair techniques  on my Kit and Clowder coloring classes.

A solution to my skin problems?

I hope so…. I just ordered a couple of these Kurecolor Markers to try out from CraftingAbility.com. I still struggle to get the skin just how I want it… and these colors look more to my taste.

Can’t wait to get hold of these and see if they are what I was looking for… I love that they have a brush and fine tip too, that really helps when I am doing hair detail. These are alcohol markers so will work great with my existing markers 🙂

Great color range too.. so if these work out the way I expect them too.. I’ll be ordering a broader palette 🙂

Back to school I go…I am now officially a Kit and Clowder student

kitandclowderbadge1
