Quickie Grad Card & a fond farewell to KennyKStamps

I had a request for a last minute graduation card last week, and this was what I made her. I already knew the perfect image for it, “Graduation Girl” by KennyK the young lady in question looks just like her. So I grabbed that… and a few more * whistles innocently. Hey Cmon.. the store is closing … and they are such a deal… and I had a few spare bucks in my paypal…. How could I NOT go shop the closing down sale and grab as many as I could before they are gone?? what am I .. crazy, me an lil man love our KennyK’s ??? LOL

Ok so here it is.. it’s a super simple card Image was print and cut on the Cricut, then colored with Chameleon pens and a detailer.  Mounted on a panel of this cute Preschool type paper with apples and math  on it… and mounted on a simple top fold card.  The inside had a  simple sentiment and  a money pocket added..and I used these fab foiled star and balloon stickers that I have in my stash from Walmart that I got on clearance.  Absolutely love those foiled stickers, so useful.  I added a few more balloons and stars to the edge of the envelope.

Be sure to drop over and check out the fab closing down sale and Facebook party over at KennyK stamps…

Oversized humorous Christmas Card for Tea Drinkers

More fun oversized cards… this one features “Mad Hatter” by Cute As A Button.  I have had my eye on coloring this digi since the first time I browsed the store.  Such a fun image  and a lot of fun to color…who doesn’t love the Alice in Wonderland’s Hatter?

I’m British and a total tea monster, I would be attached to my teapot intravenously if possible. I discovered pretty quickly after moving to the US that Electric Kettles were not the norm…and I had to find a solution to that problem REALLY quick.  I discovered that 12 cup coffee pots work perfectly for people like me lol.  I just throw in 2 Tea bags and off it goes…. stays hot without getting that nasty film on it like a traditional teapot too 🙂 Finding a coffee pot without a 2 hour cut off can be a challenge though lol.

I have to admit I have relegated a fair few coffee pots to the coffee maker in the sky over the last few years lol.  I’m a bit tough on coffee pots *sigh

So when I  went searching for a fun sentiment/quote for this image… I did a search for “tea” and up this one popped… PERFECT !!!  It is absolutely me.

I am not a huge fan of the whole big family celebration thing…. much to my IL’s disgust lol. I prefer to spend my holidays, specially Christmas just me and my hubby and son.  He is a lot like me and 18 adults all yapping at each other isn’t much fun for a little guy..or his mommy lol.

So when I saw this quote… well hell…. there it was ..  I had to do my oversized Christmas card.  I had just ordered some cool new dies that would go perfectly with it.  I must admit, personal preference…I think next time I would stamp the background in black, not white… but it still looks cool.

Time is precious..share it wisely

In this crazy world we live in it is so easy to lose touch with friends and people you care about.  We’re all so busy with this and that and sometimes you don’t realize you haven’t stopped to breathe for months. Yes .. you over there with the blue face and the Iphone…. put it down!  The latest viral video will still be there in 10 minutes…. chill.

Sure your phone has a calendar to remind you to send a card to someone on their birthday, but the best gift of all…. is your time. Even when you think you don’t have any to spare…. make it.  All those tomorrows you keep promising you will do things, may never happen… tomorrow is never promised for you….or anyone you love.

Don’t wait till your phone tells you it’s time to send a card; send it now.. just for the heck of it, show them you care and you are NEVER too busy for them.

Call them up, go have some coffee, hang out, talk, laugh and live a little..and show them you always have time for them..and for you.  This is a fab card just to let someone know….anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

……of course if you are like me…. the inside will have some humorous comeback to take the edge off that “serious” squishy moment  lol.  Did you really think I was going all serious on you ???  NEVER gonna happen … haha

Ok, on to the seriousness of crafting…

My First Flipbook Snail Mail Card

Most of these flip book snail mail cards I have seen are craft  themed to send to fellow crafters, but I did something a bit different.  It’s still crafting, but not paper crafting… this one is for a sewer 🙂

Front Cover

Front Cover

I had fun doing this, even though I admit this was a second attempt, the first one was just way toooo bulky and  I had to change themes.  Originally the theme was going to be a leaving home/moving survival kit.  I also changed the base layout to this new one, which seems to have worked out better.

I will say that this is a project best shown in video, but unfortunately that isn’t possible right now with a houseful of people…. so the project is show in pics….  sorry !

Card base was made from two square Recollections cards joined to make a double flap book with only one taped seam.

  • Front Cover – Die cut patchwork using dies from some of my Sizzix Flip card sets, scraps and recycled buttons from old scrap clothing compliment this vintage style sewing image from Cute as a Button “Sewing Susan”. She is colored in Zig Kurecolor and Ranger Distress pens. I was tempted to color her shoes royal blue, as the recipient has a pair almost exactly like these that she wore to a vintage wedding…and her own,  but I decided not to.
  • Image1 – Inside flaps Left: Flap featuring Cute as a Button “Button Love”  colored with Chameleon, Zig Kurecolor, Zig Memory system Brushables and Ranger Distress pens.  Corners punched with a Fiskar corner punch design and the image was  dry brushed with Smart Craft inks. (Image 2 shows what is beneath the image flap) Right Flap: Patchwork scraps with a  Khaki fabric pocket to hold buttons, this is a pocket I reclaimed from an old pair of maternity pants… 🙂  It’s from the side leg/knee and perfect size for this project.  The recipient used to wear combat boots and camo’s,  so it’s the perfect fabric for the personal touch.
  • Image 2 – The stamp on the inside was triple stamped and  colored with Zig Kurecolor and distress pens..and yes the blurry image is intentional… my girl likes a glass of wine…. or two  LOL. The lacy edging on the sequin and bead pack is a Martha Stewart corner/border set punch and the bear is an iron on  patch.
  • Image 3 – The bear flips down to reveal two needles attached to the back.
  • Image 4 – The main flap opens to reveal a  mini CD pocket, this could  contain photos, images, video message etc. This is housed in a pocket that is one of my shaker card window frames that I had pre-cut on my Cricut. I just scored some folds and  used those flaps to  glue it to the base. The other page is just a patchwork stamp, colored in Ranger distress pens with a smile stamp and some silly eyes.. for fun.
  • Image 5 – This has a vellum window made from 29lb Vellum Paper  cut with a Gina Marie Stitched Rectangle Die Set  and sports a gold glittery Gina Marie Bow Die for decor and contains some felt pieces I die cut. The opposite side shows a letter which is folded and attached to the card.  The page is decorated with a sewing reel  and buttons stamps, colored with  Ranger distress pens.
  • Image 6 –  The letter is printed using a handwriting font, added in a second button stamp and some decorative corners and inked edges to match the Button Love” image
  • Image 7 –  Open letter to show folds, this was a fake letter for show purposes.
  • Back Cover –  Just a very simple  wavy edge bar with decorative corners, some label dies that came free with some cutting plates and a stamp from Michaels bargain buckets.

This flip book was fun to make, I learnt a lot from doing this project,  mostly that I don’t have nearly enough supplies LOL and that  a project like this can be adapted to so many other themes, not just paper craft swap mail.  I think it would be a fab card project for kids cards.  I may have to try one of those for my granddaughter next 🙂

Rubber stamp storage solution.. and cheap too

Finally found what I have been looking for.. a storage solution for the rubber stamp collection the lil man have and I have. This won’t hold the big stamps we have, but it is fab for the Michaels budget stamps they have in the $1.50 buckets.

organizationThe top 30 pockets will accommodate a 3 inch stamp and the bottom 3 will accommodate a 4.5 inch stamp. Each hanger holds 33 ++ stamps depending on how many you fit in each pocket. I managed to squeeze in a good 150-160 stamps without even trying 🙂

I picked these particular ones up at a store called $5 and below tonight in our local Mall… $5 each and I grabbed 4.

I will probably go back and grab a few more for the last of my stamps, and perhaps an extra one or two for the stamps yet to come lol. They are designed for organizing jewelry and I am so glad I didn’t get the bigger shoe pockets I was almost ready to buy.. they wouldn’t have been as good size-wise and I think I would have ended up with stamps on top of stamps which kind of defeats the object of the clear windows lol.

Super happy with this new organization … now I just need somewhere to hang them 🙂  I might pick up a couple extras for  the lace and flowers and embellishment bling too… clear out another canvas tote on my cart 🙂  These would probably work out for my embossing powders and alcohol inks and such too… hmm ok I might be  turning one of our obsolete coat closets into a hanging craft closet haha

February Bugaboostamps/Executioner combo challenge

pocket_card3_wmd

Pocket Card Project

The challenges  were restructured and the bugaboostamps and executioner challenges were combined into Bugaboostamps/Executioner Combo Challenge

The rules are simple….use any bugaboo image and no single fold standard cards allowed.. lol.

I’ve seen a few of these pocket cards lately on the Kit & Clowder facebook group so I hunted down some sleeves and had a go.  This one will be winging it’s way to my grandaughter in Australia.

These are Avery Trading Card pouches which I picked up at Walmart for  less that $4 a pack of ten.  The images were colored with a mix of  Zig Memory System and Ranger Distress pens.   I cut my cards to 2.5x 3.5  so they were easier for the lil lady to get out of the sleeves… there is about 1/4 inch give on these.

It’s a fun project and a great way to mail cards overseas instead of standard letters, (you tuck a note or letter behind the center image)…. these can easily be put in an album  and collected over the years… awesome gift for grandparents  who don’t live close by  and they fold up to easily fit in a small padded jiffy envelope, so cheap to  mail 🙂

I definitely want to try more of these  🙂
