Scrapper’s Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project

Wow .. I’m still in shock that I got invited to join this team …. I love doing these challenges, so it was a fab surprise to find that invite in my inbox.  Thank you 🙂

So here it is .. my  first Scrappers Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project.  I have been neglecting my poor old Cricut Explore lately and getting caught up with other ideas and projects…. but I really wanted  to  use this cut file again, so here it is.  I hope you like this project, it’s really quite a simple card to make and  this cut file is so versatile. I’ve used it for a few different projects in the past… male and female.  I wanted to keep it relatively clean, so  the sentiment is behind the image, you can see it better in the second image

  • Card base is a CraftsUPrint cut file cup323867_1415 by Rae Carr.  This particular file has additional pieces that I didn’t use.  It’s cut on Dollar Store, glitter poster board card.  This was resized and cut on the Cricut Explore to make a 5×5 card.
  • Image is by Scrappers Delights and she is colored with a mix of Ranger distress pens, Zig Kurecolor and Zig Brushables from the Zig Memory System set..and a touch of Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust on the hair bands and slippers.  I also added some  blue Sakura Glaze on the hair for shine and texture.
  • Flowers are from Michaels
  • Sentiment is a die cut on blue Recollections card to match the trellis backing, cut on My Sizzix Big Shot.
  • Xyron Mega runner 1/4 inch adhesive

Bloobel Stamps “Heart Moustache” Oversized Card

When I say Oversized… he is OVER sized lol. Just as well no one is getting their hands on this one, or I would have a heck of a job finding an envelope for him… LOL

This card measures in at a whopping 7 by 11 inches ….and I love it.  I left room at the bottom for a sentiment…. or humorous quote, when I decide what I want on there.

I  think this was the first Bloobel digital stamp that I ever laid eyes on a few months ago…and I have been coveting him for months.  I finally bit the bullet and grabbed him last week.  There is something very Dapper about this “young” man that just appealed to me and my British background.

Anyways …. I was good this time and actually took some progress pics too, I really wanted to show off these fab papers before they got covered up in layers.

I will add a list at the end of all the products used…. but here he is…. “Heart Moustache” in all his vintage “dapper” glory.

Bloobel_Dapper_1_finishedClick on the thumbnails below for a closer look at the project progress.

Bloobel Stamps –  Heart Moustache
Colored withZig KureColor Markers
Printed on Georgia Pacific 110lb Index Card Stock
Edges inked and smudged with Ranger “Tim Holtz” Walnut Distress Ink

Background paper

Striped Velvet Paper  –  This is an SEI Velvet paper from  craftadvantage

Vintage  paper –  hand made using Ranger Archive Ink on Recollections Card Stock, edges distressed with Ranger “Tim Holtz”  Walnut & Fossilized Amber.

Stamps are from my random collection of new and used stamps and I used too many to list, so don’t expect names ..sorry.  If you see a specific stamp  you want details on I will do my best to share that info. Some were from Michaels, some were from Ebay.   Some of the Ebay ones were unmounted, so I don’t know who made them….or what they are called.

Wrought Iron effect corners were done by stippling Ranger clear embossing ink on a sheet of paper with an old 2 inch paint brush and then embossed with Recollections Clear embossing Powder.

Main card base is from a pack of 11×14 Poster Board from a dollar store, scored and folded.

Vintage and velvet layers are mounted on Darice adhesive foam sheets

Glues  – I used a mixture of Tombow Aqua, Xyron Mega runner and a hot glue gun

Well I think that about covers it, if I forgot anything ..fee free to leave a question in the comments  🙂  I hope you liked the was a fun one to make.

Adhesive Chalkboard Vinyl ~ Home Sweet Home sign

ZiggyBoard Adhesive Chalk Board

Well here is my first completed project using the Ziggyboard chalkboard vinyl. I’m pretty new to this whole vinyl thing, so kept it simple. I’ve played with it a few times just because I had some that came with my original Cricut Expression… yeah I have had it sitting around that long LOL.

But I recently got a kit to review from who make this vinyl right here in the US. …and so did two of our ladies

…. and a mini challenge was GAME ON!!!

Now I am the first  to admit that I am at a distinct disadvantage here  lol.  NanaDonna is our HTV queen, so she is well used to working with this medium and Deescraps and NanaDonna both…. are just awesome crafters PERIOD.  I have learnt so much from these ladies over on the message board.

My biggest problem when faced with this challenge…. my handwriting and drawing SUCKS !!! I have spent so many years on a computer, I am surprised I know how to pick up and hold a pen anymore.

One day I will tell you a story about a 30 year old who forgot how to use a knife and fork.. yup that would be me lol…and sadly, it’s a true story haha.

Ok ….so now we have established my lack of ability in this department…. I’ll tell you how I got round it. Where I lack ability, I have imagination and problem solving in abundance.

Zig Posterman Chalk Board Markers

Now the pens that come with these kits, sadly do not fit in the Cricut Explore Explore, not even with an Amy Chomas Adapter. You can remove the original adapter and jerry rig it with some tape to fit,  but the pen priming system makes it a no go anyway… strike one for me… no Bueno!  But does that stop me … oh hell noooo.

ok …. so do I cut a stencil…. possibly…. but it’s a one off project….. heh…. too much work and a waste of materials…. No Bueno

Do I print out my text and use a carbon paper to transfer an outline to follow…. that would work…. don’t have any…. No Bueno

Outlining on the Cricut Explore with Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pen

Outlining on the Cricut Explore with Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pen

Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel pen for the win!!!!   so in it goes in my Amy Chomas adapter.  Now the ink on the chalkboard surface is a bit patchy…. so you may have to hit the Cricut button a few times to make it redo the text outlines.

Depending on if you want an outline to go over with the pens, or just an outline to use….you can pick and choose how many runs through you do with the pen.

I love this white pen, but find that it does seem sporadic even on regular card  and paper too. They aren’t designed for the Cricut…. so it’s just something I accept.  I have tried other white pens and  found them no where near as smooth.  It’s easy enough to go back and touch up any missed areas.  I did that with my ‘O’
Outlined and cut... ready to decorate and mount

Outlined and cut… ready to decorate and mount

The heart was cut out of the vinyl and a Red Adhesive Velvet heart  from Elizabeth Craft Designs was inserted, just for a little bit of texture and fun. You could cut out shapes and fill with photos or printed materials …. all kinds of cool possibilities to personalize your chalkboard projects.

Stamping with Chalk pens

Now THIS is what I really do love about these chalk pens….. even though I suck at writing and drawing….  I don’t totally suck at Rubber stamping.  I used one of my clear cling stamps to make the scroll in the top right corner.  If you make a mistake, these can be cleaned off to start over even though it’s not a wet wipe chalk pen.

Yup….  that is right…. you can ink up your rubber stamps and create beautiful designs. ….Never fear it washes right off.  So the next time you are cruising around Pinterest and looking at all the fab chalkboard vinyl  projects and thinking you could never do it… STOP!!!   …. Where there is a will, there is a way….

ZiggyBoard Pre-cut labels

These ideas can be translated over to decorate ornaments, framed  art, labels, glassware…. and if you don’t have a cutting machine, never fear…  Ziggyboard Chalk Board Vinyl Chalk Board Vinyl also comes in loads of precut shapes.

Supplies used in this project:

Cheap frame with glass removed
Ziggyboard Chalkboard vinyl 12×12 sheet
Sakura Gelly Roll Pen
Cricut Explore
Zig Posterman Chalk Marker Pen
Rubber Stamp
Adhesive Velvet
Amy Chomas Pen Adapter

…and an idea!

Shutterfly…. One very very Proud Momma

First off let me tell you.. Shutterfly is an affiliate program on this site.. purchases made through the links do earn commission.  BUT  I was a customer Looong long before I became an affiliate, as you will be able to tell as you read this post lol.  I only choose affiliate programs I either use, or have an interest in using personally.

Shutterfly is an online photo service that sell everything from mouse pads to throw blankets.  I have to say when I first started shopping with them I was a bit  hesitant about the quality  of product I would receive.. but I was impressed.. as you can tell lol.

As I said I have been a customer for a long time.. over 3 years now.  I can’t even begin to tell you, or show you EVERYTHING I have had from them.. but I’m going to try and show you a good selection.  Our family are used to seeing the latest haul from Shutterfly 🙂 and I often get multiple copies of books and  mouse pads etc to send as gifts to the grandparents, Great Grandparents etc.  Stay tuned for photo mat projects in the future, I have a tonne of prints that still need to be framed !!

Scroll to the end for current deals and coupons:

Flat cards, Tri fold cards,  Single fold cards, note card sets ..I’ve had them all !!!  You have noooo idea how many different card designs I have had.  I love these cards!  Daddy always gets his birthday and fathers day cards from Shutterfly.

Mugs…. lots of mugs.  this one was for My mom… from the little guy on his first Christmas.  She came to visit from Scotland and meet him for the first time.

gma_mug2gma_mug daddy_mug

I have to admit I was not expecting my calendar to be as great as it was, despite having ordered loads of stuff already and everything was always great quality….I dunno, I gues syou just don’t expect much form calendars right LOL…I was very impressed by the quality of the calendars.

OOh  I have lost count of how many mousepads I have ordered. Anyone with a computer has a mousepad with my kid on it.

I got one for myself..and hubby took one look at it, said “oh that’s that for me… thanks honey” and there went my mousepad  *rolleyes

Posters, love the posters…I frame mine like the large prints 🙂

Labels.. great for when you send mail to family ..

…and of course prints… OMG  the prints!!! lol  I have had everything from  the regular 4×6 all the way to the 16×20’s.  This is one of my all time favorites and I have it printed on Lustre /Pearl paper at 16×20.  One of the main reasons I bought my Cricut Explore was to make custom photo mats to mount  my huge collection of Shutterfly prints  🙂cowpoke

But my favorite has to be the books…. My all time favorite I think has to be the “I love you A thru Z” book I made of my lil man when he was still a baby. This one I made with all my photos in sepia Tone.  Usually when I make books I leave them text free, I like to add my own handwritten notations and extras like ticket stubs and such.. a bit like scrapbooking.. but on this one the text was all done on Shutterfly.

It’s a great little book and you can personalize you ABC sentiments like I did.  This was a standard photo book, not a template….the ABC idea was just something I thought would be cute.

They have lots of page layouts available to choose from, or you can customize your own..and a really cool feature is the 2 page spread where you can print  one picture across the two pages.. super cool for those Extra special picture. Be sure that important picture parts aren’t along the seam unless you choose the premium lay flat style books.

..and yes that is my big old pregnant belly on the front lol.  You can’t tell by this picture, but I looked like I ate someone *grin

A_Zcovera_zbook a_zbook2

I’ve also had:

Pen organizer: Grandpa has that one on his desk at work
Notepads: I still can’t bring myself to use it, it looks so cool.
Jewelry Box:  Grandma  got one of these… these were very impressive.
