Tears of a Clown….

I was so torn on this project…. so many things I could do with this image and not enough time to do a lot of the ideas I wanted to try, but I love how this came out.  The image went perfectly with a poem I found online by Arik Fletcher.   It suited my mood at the time AND the project image I chose by Rick St Dennis who is this months sponsor over at the Crafty Awesomeness Challenge  here on the blog.

I couldn’t even decide how to mat  this project.. lol.  I liked all of the variations .. for different reasons, so I have a feeling I will be redoing this project in various  mat options and adding them to our Abandoned Art bucket.

This was my final version …THIS TIME lol.

It’s a  blush colored mat I picked up last year with a bunch of clearance photo mats at my local Walmart.  It was stamped with a rose stamp.. which I would give you the details on, but I literally just packed up all of my stamps and forgot to check the details before sealing up that box  DOH.  It was then colored with Crayola  Pencils and some dry brushed.. black dye ink.

So here is my finished piece….and a few variations I took photos of along the way…. details below.

Image is Pierrot –  To Kiss a Rose
Poem is Tears of a Clown  by Arik  Fletcher
Mat Stamped and then colored with Crayola Color Escapes Pencils
Image colored with Chameleon Pens
Poem
Printed on Epson Ecotank on ABOUT TIME Pear Dots paper (gorgeous satin sheen with mat dots ) which I picked up from a local crafter last year who was destashing bulk crafting supplies.

I wander the world with the mask of a clown,
Determined to never reveal that I’m down,
The life of the party or so it would seem,
Disguising my sorrow as living the dream.

I walk in the shadows beneath this black cloud,
Lost in these dark thoughts I can’t speak out loud,
Adrift in a cold sea of doubt and despair,
I smile through the pain and pretend I don’t care.

I’ve known love and laughter and shared in their light,
United the world in my comedic might,
Yet surrounded by people I still stand alone,
A stranger amongst all the friends that I’ve known.

I’ve encountered more demons than angels by far,
And battled them both with many a scar,
But looking back now on a life spent at war,
I need to find peace and not fight any more.

Who doesn’t love a baby elephant?

Here is card No.1 of 2 for the newest Crafty Awesomeness Challenge which is sponsored by.. Sasayaki Glitter this month. The team got to choose two images.. so being a team of 4 .. we let two of the girls pick an image this month and the other two will choose next time. We’ve been friends so long now, that we know each other well enough to know what images we can all work with.. and which ones we can  choose to give the others a  nudge outside the box..without going too  far… * cough haha that would be me LOL

So here she is… I say she, simply because I gave her pink toe nails and a pink bow.  I have plans to make a  few more of these in blue and gender neutral colors too, it’s just such a cute image and perfect for baby showers, 1st birthdays, gender reveals, announcements etc.

This is Baby Elly’s Birthday by Sasayaki Glitter
Printed on an Epson Ecotank on Canson Mix Media  paper
Colored with  Crayola Color Escapes pencils and blended with Isopropyl alcohol.
The image was then cut with a Gina Marie Designs Die from the “LACEY LATTICE RECTANGLE DIE SET”  on the Sizzix Big Shot ( check out my post about this set &  the crafters toothbrush here )
Attached with Zig Kuretake Photo Tape

A very soft and cutesie CAS (clean and Simple)card….

Sarcastic Birthday Card for the over 21’s

The minute I saw this image I knew I had to have it….she is perfect for my sense of humor. This is my, rather late DT Project for this months Crafty Awesomeness Challenge. I can finally get access to my craft carts  now the ceilings and carpets are in.

This is Bianca Doll Stamp, one of a bunch of really cool images by KaraDollStudio on Etsy.  I printed her on Canson Mixed Media  paper, colored with Chameleon Pens and then I scanned it into my software and added the sentiment and border. I then reprinted the colored version on the same Mixed Media Paper. I took a wet brush to add in some subtle shadow in the same way I did in previous projects using only the printer ink.

The main image is popped on foam and the background  is made up of a lacy cut from Gina Marie Designs using the Lacy Lattice.

Full details of materials used below 🙂

Well Hell… I didn’t know you could do THAT with a printer

I was playing around with some of my new  pens when I had a “moment”  ..it was one of those 3 am .. “I wonder what would happen if I….” moments that some of you have become used to on this blog.

If you have never tried this… you really should.  Some of you are so way beyond me in coloring skills and watercoloring.. so  this is more of a  technique project that an actual finished piece project. Obviously  to make a stunning piece you really need  to  take a bit more time  than I am going to on this video… but it will give you a good idea of what you can achieve.

The concept is the same as coloring with any other media..you still need to pay attention to your shadows and highlight placement.  But this is something  you can do no matter what your budget and get some really cool  pieces.   For these projects I am using Canson Mixed Media  paper pads, an Epson Eco Tank Printer and an H2o brush/fine art brush and plain tap water  and a  small artist brush.  Then you can, if you want add in additional  coloring media..such as pencils, inks, pens… to  take it up a notch.  I mainly use Chameleon Pens and Zig Kurecolor.. but will also be adding in a few extra and will note what I use by each image in future posts.  I have a few more samples I will share in follow up posts when finished 🙂

No matter what your skill level, this is something cheap and fairly quick to do and even a total novice can achieve some cool  finished projects.

Ok..so here we go…. here’s a  video to show you just how quick and easy this technique can be.  No Fancy nails, no fancy set up… just a down home quicky video… probably complete with a running commentary background from my 4 year old “director”  ** By the time I got to finish up the video etc ….My mini-me is tucked up fast asleep..but I am sure he will show up in future videos. He has been in a few previously…. did I mention we don’t do serious? lol

You will get used to him appearing in these videos..at least the audio…he’s a bit of a ham and hijacks all of my projects lol.  We  REALLY don’t do serious…. 🙂

ok ..so video first followed by a bunch of quick samples.

If you enjoyed this idea and decide to try it out, I would love to see what you do with it.  I’m going to play around with some color prints too ..just because I can..and I am curious to see how the colored ink reacts… so expect to see more  of this idea in future.

Bugaboo “Autumn Kidz” Velvet over the edge card

Some of you caught a WIP look at this on Facebook, but here she is.. all finished up and matted, popped on foam and overhanging the stitched frame.

She’s colored with Chameleon Pens and a touch of Zig Kurecolor and Marvy Detailer. sections of the image were cut in to overlap the frame while the main image remained behind the frame.  I am sure it has some fancy technical name, but heck if I know what to call it haha…I just know it’s cool. A couple of the smaller detached details were fussy cut and added to the frame where they should be in the original.

Both layers are foam padded for depth and the image is printed on Velvet Paper…. combined it gives the  card a lush soft feel.

Links and supplies listed below for anyone interested.

First off a close up through my Magnifier light to show off that lush velvet texture. Traditional blending styles will not work with this…. so if you are the type who has to blend to perfection, this is not the paper for you.  It works great with pencils too, but it does have a soft grainy effect look to it….so it may not suite everyone.  Me….I LOVE this paper… it suits my style and tastes perfectly.

bugaboo_velvet_autumn_wmd

..and here is the finished card, Very CAS ( clean and simple ). I don’t like to add sentiments to cards till I plan to use them; unless I already know who the recipient is, or the occasion. Quite often I just want to  use it as a note card, so I  keep them sentiment free.  I’m sure you have probably noticed that I am not a big fan of making overly fussy cards either and prefer to highlight the image and  in some cases humorous text.  It’s just my style….

bugaboo_autumn_card_wmd..anywho .. there she is… my Autumn Kidz.  I love these muted colors which is funny because hubby and I have argued color schemes and furniture since the day he moved in.  He is all about the browns… and I am all about the black furniture lol.

He must be rubbing off on me  LOL

Lil’Inkers dual stitch frame

Something I never mention, my scissors.  LOL I confess I do not own any “craft” scissors except the little pair that came with my Cricut tool kit.  I actually do most of my intricate cutting with.. erm.. hair dressers scissors lol.

I have an old pair of Triumph Mastercolor scissors from back in my UK days… these must be at least 20 years old and have NEVER ever been sharpened lol.  LOVE these scissors.  I have another set I use too… but I’d have to dig them out to figure out what they are lol.

Oversized East Wind Humorous Birthday Card…

I went trolling through Etsy’s Digi Artists the other night in search of something “new” and different.  I needed to get back to my roots a bit and stray off the “cutesie” path for a bit. AND….I came across a couple of Artists, one of which I had heard of, but never colored…..and one I hadn’t heard of. Both of which had Images that instantly appealed to me, so I grabbed one from each to see if they worked with my grungier style… Here is the East Wind image “Aurora Warrior”.

What can I say… I am a bit of a tomboy and have always loved the “tank girl” tom boy thing.  You don’t have to be a Barbie, to be Sexah!
ew_oldage_wmded
This is an oversized card… I love making these 6 x12 inch cards..so much room to play and perfect for those  employee Birthdays where half the office have to sign it.  Anywho, there she is in all her glory.

I colored  the image with Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor, Ranger Distress Pens and a touch of Marvy Detailer…. on a sheet of Canson Mix Media.

She is bordered with a dual stitched rectangular frame by Lil’Inkers on Recollections black card and the image was partially fussy cut to bring elements up and over the frame.  The main image lays behind the frame.  I love doing these up and overs..<< None technical term.  I must do a quick tutorial showing how I do them one day.

The green striped paper is one I made in PSP and printed out on a white 110lb card stock and added a thin black frame for contrast.

The sentiment is one straight from my own warped mind and inspired by the image. As regular visitors know, I like to have fun with my cards. The letters are cut on 110lb white card using a Bottle Cap Alphabet Die by MFT ( My Favorite Things) on my Sizzix Bigshot.

..AND NOW….

I want to give a big shout out to fellow card maker and blogger Shannon Abblitt  who has constantly amazed and inspired me with her fabulous cards… and who exposed me to so many Cool East Wind images, that I just had to give them a try.  Thanks Shannon 🙂

Scrapper’s Delights “Esmeralda” You Rock card

I’ve been on quite a roll since last night… I guess getting my groove on to Kylie Minogue on Iheart Radio in the wee hours…. with wireless headset of course, has it’s rewards.  I have made 3 cards since Midnight and colored up the image for a 4th.

The great part is..I love them all.

We’re all our own worst critics and I am no different…so for me to color up 4 images and turn out 3 cards in a row that I love… is SWEET !!!!! specially since I was using a totally different paper from usual.

…and here she is, this is “Esmeralda” by Scrapper’s Delights

1 Happy Crafter with new toys :)

I got my Epson Eco Tank Printer tonight… I have no idea why people complained it was hard and/or messy to fill the tanks.. it was easy, quick and clean.

I decided against the  more expensive models I had been looking at and  went for the ET-2550 instead. I already have a Workforce with Fax etc and have no need for that in this one.  This model has a decent resolution, more than good enough for printing out digital stamps and doing Print and Cut on my Cricut Explore… which was my main reason for buying a tank system.  I wanted something economical for  the “more than your average  homeuser bear” printing volume I expect to crank out.

So far I am happy with it, but I haven’t hooked it up to the WIFI yet. That could be a whole different story, trying to put in security keys on that screen with no keypad lol… we shall see.  Nor have I tried it on anything except basic white card stock, I’ll come back in a week or so with an update…  once I have had time to play with it properly.

5838473.01.prodAnd my other new toy….I finally grabbed a clip on desklamp….with built in magnifier and a daylight bulb.  So I am hoping that will help when coloring some of the more finer detailed images 🙂

again..we shall see…and updates will be had later in the week.

I had a bit of a sales/clearance/ coupons spree.. just a little one .. I’ll share those details later in the week too… along with ….HOPEFULLY… some new stitched dies and stamps I ordered last night.  So looking forward to those arriving 🙂

February, the month of love, romance and REFUNDS !!!  lol

It’s my anniversary this month too… “Happy anniversary darlin’ I got you a happy wife ..I hope you like it :)”

Inkjet printable Vellum… love it !!!

kennyk_vellum_printed_color

Printed in color on Epson WF2630 Image from KennyKdownloads.com

One of the girls on the  message board has been  telling me to try vellum for ages,  I finally bit the bullet and bought a pack on Ebay.  OMG…. this stuff is awesome, why I waited so long to take her advice I will never know.

The particular seller I used has two weights 17lb and 29lb. Make sure you pick the right one for your printer if you plan to print designs that way.   The 17 is designed for Laser printers and the 29lb for Laser  or Inkjet.

I photographed these images specifically to show the level of transparency you should expect with  29 lb Glama Translucent Clear Vellum Paper , if you purchase the same paper I bought.

kennyk_vellum_printed-outline

Outline Printed on Epson WF2630 Images from KennyKdownloads.com

I have an Epson Workforce 2630 that I use for general craft printing and it sails through that like a dream.  Now be aware that when you print on the Inkjet, it’s a wet ink and it’s going to take a while to dry properly like most specialty papers, specially if you are printing in full color.  This is equally awesome if you are printing line drawings and digital stamps to hand color.

stella_vellum_Ch_glazed

Outline Printed on Epson WF2630, colored with various pens. Image from bugaboostamps.com

One thing to bear in mind when hand coloring is that the inks you are using may not be compatible with the inkjet inks, so always do a test piece.  I  have been playing around and for the most part all of the pens I have used, have been fine… but there were one or two issues.

One of the glitter gel pens didn’t dry as quick as the rest of the pens I used and I smudged it.

And one of my pens  that has a blender tank, smeared the inkjet ink into the color a little if you run the pen over the outlines. Now that may just be because I didn’t leave it to dry long enough before coloring… so I shall try and be patient and wait a bit longer to test that out again later.

Now rubber stamping on this should prove to be fun.  I’m not sure which inks would work best, I guess we’ll find that out in a later project post 🙂  I’m going to stamp up some sheets and print up some digi stamps and leave them to dry for at least 6 hours…and see if that makes a difference to the outlines and smearing with certain media.  Now I have 3 types of stamping ink…. pigment, dye and archive.  I’ll be using all 3 and obviously with the pigment one, I shall be powder embossing this too.
It will be interesting to see how the paper holds up under the embossing heat gun.
