Abandoned Art Project – Readers Series

I had a fun idea for a new Bookmark Series to combine my CUP ( CraftsUPrint)  digital stamps by Gordon Fraser, with my Abandoned Art Projects.. doing something fun, and hopefully Inspiring people to read some of the classic literature that may not have crossed their path.
I was trying to decide on how to make my bookmarks when it hit me.. I could  pick classic tales  inspired by the images and add a short Synopsis to the back of each bookmark .. maybe inspire someone to hit the local library, or bookstore and check it out.

Now i am no literary  genius, so some of my book choices may be a bit obscure, based on books I have personally read.  Others will be pulled from the depths of Google based on search queries like “Pirate story book”  “traveler tales books” etc, ..and once I find a title I like.. I am going to see if I can pull up some fun info to go with it and  of course ..a Synopsis.  Wikipedia is such a fab place to get info on authors, artists, entertainers and  details on so many subjects… so Thank you Wikipedia for helping me further  the  cause of educating people on some great literature.

So here is the first bookmark in the series… Inspired by Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

“A little Tutti Frutti” humorous Valentines card

I’ve been wanting to color this one for a while, but was waiting for the right moment to hit… ¬†I am a creature of mood, so an image has to “speak to me” for me to really get into creating with it. Sometimes it is instant and I know the second I see it exactly what I need to do with it… specially those ones that tickle my bad sense of humor. ¬†Others I have to let them grow on me and I bounce ideas around and then it hits me…

This was one of those projects.  I had the main image and the fun paper  done and sat waiting for  the finishing touches.. when it hit me.  I was just gonna have to write me a poem  LOL.   I hope you like it.

This is my DT project for the February 2017 Crafty Awesomeness Challenge and was created with an image from Cute As A Button, who is the February Sponsor.  Come on over and join in and share your projects.

This is¬†IMG00221 Chiquita¬†by Cute As A Button she was print and cut on the Cricut Explore and colored with a mix of Zig Kurecolor and Chameleon Pens. I popped some Glossy Accents on ¬†the grapes and necklace for a subtle 3D feel. ¬†The patterned paper is one I found on Etsy by¬†AT Art Digital¬†and you may have seen my “Do you digital?” post last week or two about these.

I printed this on my Epson Eco Tank, and then trimmed that down with my wavy blade on my cutter.  I added a black layer behind for impact which also has a wavy edge and then mounted it all on a card base cut from a Craft Smith paper pad using Zig Photo Tape.  The Pineapple was one of the Michaels $1.50 stamps and I stamped, hand cut and colored that. Sentiment die, I think was  a cheapie import???  cut on my Sizzix Big SHot

and the poem.. yup…. ¬†the poem…. that was all me…. sorry, having a “moment” ¬†LOL.

Let’s face it.. not every girls is flowers and hearts. ¬†I’ll take a good laugh over a bunch of flowers any day of the week.

Love this image, reminds me of Carmen Miranda…. yup… I know..showing my age again lol.

Hope you like it ¬†ūüôā

Finally got to set up my big portable draft table

Hubby’s Grandma is an interior designer and a couple of years ago she gave me her old portable draft table that she had when she was doing classes. She didn’t need it anymore and it had been sat in a corner gathering dust, so she thought I might be able to make use of it. ¬†It’s big…which is great…. but I really didn’t have anywhere I could put it without taking up valuable space..so it sat in my closet instead lol.

Well ..I have a few wood projects I wanted to tackle and as some of you know, I live in an apt, so ¬†no workshop any more. Pretty much no tools anymore either, dang but I miss my old crafty workshop back in the UK. ¬†Anyways I finally bit the bullet and stopped “making do” without a bench.. I got a cheapie Black and Decker bench, cost me all of $30 at Walmart. I figured I could just fold it away in a closet when I wasn’t using it.

I put it together in the wee hours while everyone was asleep and ¬†then had a genius moment… I could ¬†use that as a base for the draft table… and just take the draft table off when I had wood projects to do… GENIUS..

I just dropped it in the corner of my bay window ¬†so I have ¬†some natural light. ¬†ok so maybe not the most high tech fancy looking draft table.. but it works, it’s cheap and it can pack up in a closet at any time and doubles as a woodworking bench when needed.

It is also the perfect place to pop my WRMK Laser Square which I didn’t really have space to leave assembled…and my Bluetooth Cell Phone base. ¬†Now I can make answer calls again when my lil man runs off with my cell phone to watch Youtube Kids in the bathroom lol. He’s all male, that kid will sit there for hours if you don’t make him get off the pot lol.

So now I have my work bench and a draft table and ¬†a place with natural light to photograph projects AND a place for my Laser Square and ¬†it didn’t cost the earth or take up a lot of room.
Happy clam .. now I just need to get rid of that dang Cat 5 cable and finish tidying up in here ūüôā ¬†Excuse the mess lol.
I still plan to use my little desktop easel I made  to do most of my coloring, but this is going to be really handy to have too.

Decorated MDF Inspirational Frame

Well this is a new one on me…

I have always liked the look of journaling and bible decorating; but since I don’t journal..and I don’t do the Bible thing…. and I don’t really think it would look the same if I stamped ¬†the HTML Bible, which is the only one I own lol.. this was my own take on the idea. ¬†And yes, that is a real thing.. Google it.. it’s a book for Computer geeks who build websites etc.

anywho.. as I said, this is my¬†alternate take on the whole journaling, bible stamping thing….

I took an Art Minds ¬†12 x 12 MDF frame that I picked up at Michaels a year or so ago, coated it in diluted Mod Podge and ¬†stuck ¬†a sheet of Christmas text on it from a paper stack book I just picked up in the sales at Michaels. ¬†It’s from the Recollections Christmas – Pinecone Lodge Paper pad ..I stamped it with Stazon Ink and a stamp I also picked up in the after Christmas sale which was a Poinsettia stamp and die set by Stampendous. ¬†I had already stamped and colored it so I ¬†took that copy and scanned it into my graphics program, then did a print and cut on my Cricut Explore to ¬†add the ¬†colored layer. ¬†These have been sprayed with Mod Podge sealer which really makes the colors pop on printed images, if you are printing on a regular flat card stock like the Georgia Pacific, or Neenah 110lb.

I cut the believe sentiment in two layers; one black and one red to match the coloring on the poinsettias and the main image using a Momenta Die I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby…and of course my trusty old Sizzix Big Shot.

The Image is¬†IMG00374 -377 Faith Fairies Bundle – Bible Journaling Bookmark Digital Digi Stamp¬†by Cute As A Button and I printed it on Canson Mixed Media paper then colored her with Chameleon Pens. ¬†I stamped a border ¬†of ferns around her using Black Ranger Archival Ink¬†and Green Crafts Smart inks and the Hero Arts Fern stamp I picked up….again.. yup..in the Christmas sales at Michaels.

This is my ¬†project for the new¬†Cute As A button Blog Challenge, we’d love to see you join us.

I will be compensated fr purchases made through affiliate links on this  page

One Crafty Kid and a Gelli Plate = Craft Hour Fun

We started our craft hour with some bubble blowing paint project to make background papers.. but that was short lived after his second time of sucking, instead of blowing lol. He gets so excited sometimes he forgets not to swallow.. so after two mouthfuls of paint, water and dish soap mix.. we decided we had enough of that idea for the night..and moved on to the Gelli Plate.

I bought a Gelli Plate at the Blitsy Sleepover last month and we just got a chance to play with it. I say we, since I bought this because A: I was enamored with some gorgeous Gelli Projects I had seen and B: It looked like a fab craft product for my son who is 4 and a half and loves to craft too. And what a hit this one was…. before we even got the paint on it he was enamored by the feel of it, but add in some paint and a roller and he was in LOVE ! There is nothing my kid loves more than making a mess with Acrylic paint lol.

He was painting on canvas when he was one and I have a wooden floor so I’ve always been totally cool with letting him do things like this. As the grandparent were told when they said I was “BRAVE” ….aint nothing that can’t clean up in the washer, or the shower.

Anywho….I wanted to show these off… we tried a few different ideas for adding texture and designs. Stamps work really well on these plates and he has quite a cool little collection growing of wood mounted stamps. BUT …. this is the one I loved the most… his hand prints !! I picked out my three favorites and I am going to mat and frame these…

If you have kids, or grandkids who like to craft with you and you haven’t tried these… I totally recommend grabbing one, even if it’s just one of the small ones. ¬†This time of year is perfect because all of the leaves are dropping here, so tomorrow we are going to go for a walk and collect some to try out on the Gelli Plate.

I’m off to see how big I can get.. because we definitely want a bigger one..and maybe a round one too. These are way too much fun for him and me. ¬†I love doing my own backgrounds and ¬†have been wanting to try my hand at some Mixed Media with him. After trying these.. I know they will be a big hit in this house, with us and his crafty pals on play dates. ¬†I can’t wait to see what he wants to experiment with for textures.

Tools used were just Acrylic paint, a brayer, a gelli ¬†plate and a kid ..if you don’t have a small kid.. someone will probably let you borrow one lol.

One happy mommy …. ¬†with some new wall art for his gallery ūüôā ¬†We might even make some for the great grandparents.
