The elusive search for a good paper cutter….

Well ..I finally decided it was time to find myself a  new cutter.. no one ever seems to find that ULTIMATE crafters paper cutter  lol.  I haven’t dumped my current cutters.. but they are now relegated to just being used for specific things.

So now I think I got it all covered… will be testing this baby out to see just how accurate it is  later tonight.  But for anyone interested, this is what I got.  It’s not something I have seen in my local Walmart, but we stopped by one the other day on the way home from being out of town.. I was looking at this online a few days before, so grabbed it when I saw it  ūüôā Mine is blue, not green though… Swingline ClassicCut LITE Guilotine

My biggest problem is trimming up the edges of cards after all the layers are on if they didn’t line up perfectly, or I change my mind at the last minute about something and want to trim it up…. usually that means multiple layers which are a pain to cut with a rotary style… sooo.. I grabbed a Guillotine.  It’s nothing fancy, it’s far from expensive.. but  it’s big enough for almost all of the things I cut and  from the quick test play I had.. it works pretty damned good. There is no real guard on these so beware of little fingers, and your own as the blade is underneath and you should be careful when picking it up too. My son is under strict instructions that it is something he NEVER touches unless he is with me and I say it is ok for him to hold the handle… but I still put it away out of reach when it’s not in use.

My Fellows is fab for wavy scallop cuts and perforations, but the laser is dead and it just doesn’t seem to cut as well as it used to.. after about 6 years, I’m really not complaining ūüôā It’s not the blade per se more it doesn’t seem to cut as straight as it used to..or maybe ..it’s me LOL

My Recollections signature Paper Trimmer, that poor baby has taken some abuse lol…. it’s still a  great cutter for  foam and scoring..and funnily enough the thing that makes it not good for paper cutting.. makes it fabulous for my shabby edge cuts.

It’s one of those trimmers with a channel and not a cutting strip..so if you don’t put a piece of scrap underneath it to cut, it  gets filled up with crap gives you a shabby edge, or pushed the cut into the groove …. but I love the shabby look it gives, it’s not as pronounced as tearing….which I suck at lol, but it’s still rough enough to give interest.

Yes I know it would cut better if I cleaned out all of the crap from the adhesive foam lol…

…and then I picked up a We R Memory Keepers Cutter one day, just because it looked interesting… sadly  that is still sitting on the side of my file cabinet till I figure out exactly what to do with it and how it works.. it’s like a long magnetic ruler with multiple cutting sliders…. but..alas, my desk is NOT magnetic lol… but I will figure that one out.

Quickie card – I heart you

I have some new CraftsUPrint cutfiles, a tonne of new stamps and dies and … oh dear.. it’s been a busy month… for shopping haha. ¬†I have a huge basket of goodies to ¬†play with … and not enough time to play with them all.. but I am sure gonna try..and my son seems to have been bit with the crafty bug bad this month..so I shall be in good company.

So going to start off our mega marathon of craftiness with a quickie card featuring a super quick and cute cut file and a Satuarate Canary stamp I picked up in my first.. yes I said first batch of stamps I grabbed from LDRS Creative this past week (see previous post). ¬†I loved the ones I got so much…I went back for more. ¬† At $1 a pop on clearance, there is no way I wasn’t taking good advantage of this sale …. the stamps are fabulous. I found some long searched for scenic stamps which I can’t wait to play with. ¬†This was my first time shopping with LDRS and I have to say I am impressed.

Ok so here she is.. this is Alice, supplies list is super simple and listed below.

Card base is 110lb Georgia Pacific card and was cut on the Cricut Explore using a CraftsUPrint cut file by Apetroae Stefan  called OVER THE EDGE HEART BORDER CARD

Insert is Black Recollections Value pack 65lb card, contrasts great through the cut outs
Black layer is also Black 65lb Recollections card
Image was stamped on Canson Mix Media using black Stazon Ink and colored with Chameleon Pens

… both layers were given a shabby cut, I have an old cutter that ¬†does this to the paper/card if you only cut one layer and I love it, because I suck at paper tearing/ripping ¬†but like the shabby edge look for some projects…so this is my compromise.

I used Zig Photo Tape runner adhesive to attach my layers.

Guest Designer – Lil ‘ Man D – Thank You card and Bookmark

You may have seen ¬†my posts on Facebook last week about my lil man and his first watercolor project…. well he was at it again tonight ¬†ūüôā

My little man was given an early birthday present last weekend by a lady who works with hubby, so this is her Thank You card and a little book mark for her to use in her Bible, or other reading matter. ¬†Now it goes without saying, since he is only 4 …. that he had a little help …SURPRISE !! lol. ¬†But the painting is all him.

He may be a crafty wee soul, but ¬†this mommy isn’t ready to let him lose ¬†with a laminator and glue all by himself .. my sanity is questionable at the best of times .. but not THAT bad haha. ¬†Unlike someone we won’t mention by name who’s grandson glued himself up trying to apply “lotion” to his legs whilst visiting her craft room last week lol…. sorry.. I am still giggling over that one .. my bad.

The images he colored are :

Image #13 РHeart Ants Рby Sasayaki Glitter & a section cropped from Pure Prairie Bouquet by Power Poppy.

The card and bookmark were colored using Gansai Tambi watercolors and a Zig Kuretake H2o brush.

The card ¬†is a hot pink 5×6.5″ from a multicolor pack at Michaels
A background layer of rough cut 65lb black Recollections card from the value packs
The image is printed on Canson Mix Media Paper on my Epson Eco Tank and also had a rough cut edging. I added the sentiment “There is beauty in creation” and a border to the image before printing. ¬†This was also foam popped on a Darice adhesive foam sheet and attached using a double side tape. The card layers were ¬†attached with Zig Photo Tape and the Sentiment which was a cheapie import die was attached with Tombow Aqua.

The Book mark is backed with a light tan 65lb card ¬†with a hint of a border showing behind the image cut from the front, and I attached a tassle from a value pack at Michaels. I added a cute little bead ¬†that I got ¬†in a happy mail package from Francesca at Cute As A Button¬†when she very kindly shared her destash items with the DT team ūüôā ¬†It says “Always” on one side and “Believe” on the other… pretty appropriate for a Bible Bookmark.

I hope you like it

Humorous Christmas Card ..getting ready for 2017

This is a Bugaboo Stamps Friday Freebie, if you didn’t grab it..you still have a few days left to get it before the new Freebie comes out. ¬†It’s called “Winter Penguin Trio”¬† I am still playing with Christmas images… nothing like getting a head start on next 2017 cards lol.

I¬†knocked up a super quick and simple card. It’s just a single fold on an 8.5×11 sheet of Black card, the image was printed on Canson mixed Media and colored with Chameleon pens. I added the inside sentiment to the bottom of the photo, just so you get the intended humor. ¬†The image is foam popped on a sheet of Darice foam and the sentiment is a die cut from a Momenta die I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby last week. ¬†I cut it on black card then rewrote the sentiment with a Zig Chalk Pen. ¬†Tore up the edges and sponged on a blue ink edging.bug_penguin_trio

Supplies:

Recollections 65lb card -Black
Canson Mixed Media Paper 7×10
Chameleon Pens
Zig Chalk Marker Dual tip Рwhite
Momenta “Believe” die – Hobby Lobby clearance
Craftsmart Dye Ink Pad  Р Light Blue
Darice Adhesive foam sheet

I would say this is the last craft haul for the year….

BUT.. Grandma just sent me a Joann Gift card lol.

I had a quick run through Michaels on Wednesday night and Hobby Lobby yesterday… I guess today it’s Joann day haha

anywho.. here’s a quick look at what I picked up, got some great deals.mini-spree

I finally got my 12×12 frame for my Brianna Blaster project…. I inked it up in black and brown last night  for an old distressed look using a Craftsmart Black Dye Ink pad and Ranger Tim Holtz Distress ink pads in Burlap and Walnut. Michaels don’t appear to be carrying  the larger ink pads anymore. Little man picked out a small wood frame for one of his projects.

I also picked up 4 packs of 6×6 canvas panels board for the lil guy to use with the Gelli Plate we just got.  In the Christmas  Sale  section we found a 3 pack of fondant rollers which will be fun to play with. they have 3 Christmas designs on them.

naught_strung_wmded_wipz

I grabbed a few reels of ribbon,  some Celebrate It Tempo sheer black…  and a skinny lace in green that I use for lacing up cards like this.

And then I also grabbed 3 sets of clear stamps.. all on clearance andstampendous_skaters 2 of  them have matching dies.  I have been wanting this Stampendous Poinsettia one and when I saw it down to less than $5..I had to grab it.  Then we grabbed this one for the little guy, it is another Stampendous  called Skaters also under $5

and lastly this little set by Inkadinkado Warm Wishes.

patient_pup

fern

I also snatched up a couple of wood mounted stamps, the Patient Puppy was also on sale for under $5 and the fFern….I got 50% off with my coupon.

Of course I had to stock up on Recollections card too since it is on the buy 5 for $10 deal again.

And to make matters even better the young lady also  tacked on a 30% off everything code for me too.  So that little haul from Michaels cost me just $66 instead of over $130 at regular price.

Then we have  Hobby Lobby… I got the two oversized sentiment dies by Momenta Believe & Dream on clearance for $5.99 each and  hubby and I each grabbed a set of the Chameleon pens  with the 40 % off coupons.  SCORE !  I have now completed my Chameleon set…   minus the fabulous case..which I would have loved.

..   but such is life.  $74  haul for only $46 .. can't complain at that.

Be Beautiful – layered card with watercolor effect

This is my latest project and features ¬†an image by Cute As A Button “Wedding Day” and a bunch of ¬†things from my latest craft hauls. ¬†This is my December Inspirational Project ¬†and also ¬†my No. 3 Sketch with extra credits for the Message Board Sketch Challenge. ¬† Some of the ladies and I are old friends from the Cricut Message Board days and this is a continuation of an old challenge on there. It’s a just for fun ¬†monthly sketch challenge and all are welcome to come hang out and play.

I wanted to try something¬†I’d been playing with the other week, the watercoloring with printer ink.. but expanded on the idea by including some of the new Zig Kuretake Manga ink I just got. ¬†I picked ¬†this particular ink for the fact it was water based, so I knew it would dilute and work with this technique. ¬†It is a fast drying ink that becomes waterproof once dry and ¬†smudge free with Alcohol markers. ¬†Exactly what I need! ¬†I also picked up a Fine H2o brush in this packet… ¬†I have tried cheap versions of these which work.. ok.. but this one is definitely a much higher quality.
caab_b_beautiful_closeup_wmded
I gave the image a color wash with just water and the printer ink, then I slowly layered in a diluted ink to add in more depth and shadow. ¬† It has a very subtle color because I ¬†diluted it and then absorbed the excess as I worked, ¬†but straight out of the bottle.. this is black as black can be. If you let it soak in instead of absorbing ¬†it … the colors are also more pronounced.

The reason I picked up this ink is because ¬†Artists all have their own style of drawing, some use thinner lines than others and that effects the amount of ink you have to pull from the printed image. ¬†I have a gorgeous set of ¬†Gansai Tambi watercolor paints I could have used..BUT ¬†I wanted to experiment… PLUS these inks are waterproof once dried AND I can use the ink with various writing/drawing tools.

k let’s face it.. I just wanted to play with something new lol. ¬†Wait till you get to see the other bottle of ink I picked up….

I added in some really subtle color on the image using my Chameleon Pens
NU00, BL2, BG1 & GR1.

This image was printed on  a Canson Mixed Media sheet  through the Epson Eco Tank.

ok.. now onto ¬†the card itself. ¬†I am not really ¬†a fussy card maker.. ¬†but I do like to play around with ideas and try new things out, so now and then I’ll get a bit “fluffy”.

I had some fab new dies from Gina Marie designs I wanted to try out and so I mixed it up with some of those, some GM’s from a previous order, a die from my latest Blitsy order and some ¬†Cheapie imports from Ebay. ¬†And then I ¬†had a play with my Martha Stewart punches…. ¬†for good measure.

Starting at the back and working forward..

Silver Glitter card stock,  local dollar store
Blue Recollections Card Stock  with  Martha Steward border punch set. If you want a continuous border, these punches all come with cutting instructions and sizes so you can get perfect  borders.  For this project I  wanted to play with an off cut pattern, just to add a little interest to the background.
White 110lb index Card
Blue Recollections Card Stock
Image is popped on a layer of Darice Foam
Image is die cut with the new Mini Hearts Square set from Gina Marie Designs

On top of that are 3 cuts from the Gina Marie Flower Branch Die.. 2 were inked with a blue pad..one darker than the other for  some contrast and pearl cabochons were popped in the smaller centers for some subtle bling.

The butterfly and beautiful  cuts are from Gina Marie
The “Be” sentiment is from Blitsy
….and finally the small leafy sprigs came from Ebay.

I used ¬†a mix of glues and tapes… details and links for the products used can be found below for anyone interested.

Floral overlay border edge acetate card

This is one of the new ¬†CraftsUPrint ¬†cut files I picked up and made into an acetate panel card. ¬†It’s another cut file by Tina Fitch called Swirl¬†Sided Card and it is available in various cutting machine formats. I cut this on my Cricut Explore using Recollections Black card for the background and ¬†110lb Index stock for the swirls. ¬†I bet it would
look gorgeous with black velvet paper on White too.

I scored this at an offset so that I could add in an acetate window and bottom border, then added in some  small punched flowers with pearl centers.  Then I finished it off with a sentiment die from my recent Ebay Haul, again in 110lb white card stock.

cup_floraledge_wmd

What I love about these style of cut files is that they are very flexible and can be used in various ways, not just the way the original file comes.  I moved the score line and added a window to this one with a base strip.  But I also ran a quick test piece through my Cricut to show you  how you can switch it out from cut to write and achieve effects like this too.
cup_cut_file_ds
This is ¬†a Zig Embossing writer pen, they don’t fit the original ¬†pen holders for the Cricut… but they work fantastic in the Chomas Creations ¬†Adapters I have. This is the Marker Adapter and so far it has fit all of my Zig pens ¬†from my Memory System Collection and the embossing pens. That means it also fits the Zig Chalk Writer pens….which I love. ¬†You can see some pictures from past projects below this post. Please Note…. the Adapters do not fit the Explore ONE as it has a different holder and housing from the Original Cricut Explore, the Air and ..possibly the Air 2. ¬†These adapters are available for a variety of machines, so if you have something other than an Explore… check the ¬†site and see if your machine is one of them. ¬†There is however an Engraving tip for the Explore ONE.

zig_emboss_writer

I didn’t powder up this sheet so you can see some stray embossing powder…. That was deliberate.

A. it was ¬†a test piece… and B. It gives me the perfect excuse to ¬†show ¬†people who are new to embossing powder ¬†what to expect…and ¬†how to avoid this. ¬† If you are embossing projects, you need to coat your paper with a resist prior to stamping, or writing with embossing inks. ¬†You can buy special little powder puffs, but I find Johnson’s baby powder works just as well. ¬† Simply dust a thin coating over your paper before you emboss. ¬†I use an old makeup brush, or an old face clothe… sometimes just my hand.

zig_emboss_writer2
Anywho… just thought I would show you a few extras while I shared my latest card. ¬†With all the new Cricut owners again this holiday, I thought it was a good time to show off ¬†some of the fab cut files that are available to machine cutters and also some of the cool accessories and extras that you ¬†may not have seen before.

Details on where to get the products used in this post are listed below. ¬†If you have questions about something specific… feel free to add a comment ¬†ūüôā

Sarcastic Birthday Card for the over 21’s

The minute I saw this image I knew I had to have it….she is perfect for my sense of humor. This is my, rather late DT Project for this months Crafty Awesomeness Challenge. I can finally get access to my craft carts ¬†now the ceilings and carpets are in.

This is Bianca Doll Stamp, one of a bunch of really cool images by KaraDollStudio on Etsy.  I printed her on Canson Mixed Media  paper, colored with Chameleon Pens and then I scanned it into my software and added the sentiment and border. I then reprinted the colored version on the same Mixed Media Paper. I took a wet brush to add in some subtle shadow in the same way I did in previous projects using only the printer ink.

The main image is popped on foam and the background  is made up of a lacy cut from Gina Marie Designs using the Lacy Lattice.

Lil Ms Muffet sat on her…

HA !!! you know you were expecting something sarcastic…. well NOPE .. not this time lol.
SURPRISE !!!!¬† Ok I confess I did ¬†think about it, but couldn’t find anything suitable… funny yes, not very¬†PC, yes…. suitable… Nope LOL

This is my DT project for the new October Challenge on the Cute As A Button Challenge Blog…“Ms Muffett”

Printed on Recollections 65 lb card stock and colored with Chameleon Pens and Zig Kure Color and a dusting of dry brushed Craft Smart Ink.  The edges were also inked up with Craft Smart ink pads in blue and black.

The card background is stamped using a bargain bin seasonal stamp from Michaels. ¬†I love these $1.50 stamps they bring out for each season… they are fab for my lil man and I find myself stealing them for backgrounds lol. The sentiment is a die cut.. but for the life of me I can’t think who made it, I’ll add it into a supplies list later today. The sentiment was inked with black and blue inks, then I ran over it with a light blue Sakura Glaze pen which gave it a 3D relief and ¬†added that finishing touch.
