Wahooo…… I’m BACK …with a splash !!

Well I finally got time to really sit down and actually color, admittedly it was a quickie session… but I got to color and dang but it feels good. Here is a really cool image by Cute As A Button “Bathtub Mermaid” and as if you didn’t guess already… yup I gave my new Chameleon Pens Color Tops a whirl. Add on a splash of Sakura Gelly Roll for some glitz and glam and detailing.. and voila!

I mounted her on a ply wood art tile/canvas  using double sided sheets of adhesive tape and inked up the edges with 3 tones of Color Smart Ink pads.  I’ll add a protective waterproof layer before hanging her in the bathroom.

This is my challenge image for July for the Cute As A Button Challenge Blogspot… come on over and play

Have you seen the Cricut Mint Machine Bundle…?  check out that price and all the goodies that come with it.  I am so coveting the new Explore 2… I would love one of these.   If you are totally new to Cricut, which is rare nowadays… but always a possibility..   There are so many cool things you can do with these machines…way beyond what Cricut even show you. Card making, scrapbooking, home decor, kids crafts, personalized clothing, gifts, packaging…… just  the tip of the iceberg.

We had one member on the message board who made all of the signs  for his re-enactment group.

Me.. I bought mine to make custom photo mats then got hooked ..and there is still a tonne of things I haven’t even tried yet.

One of my favorite  things about my Cricut is the aftermarket Adapters I bought,  which sadly are not available for the ONE.. but they are available for the Explore, Explore Air and Air 2 and those are  FANTASTIC. these are pen adapters for the Circut by a company called Chomas Creations and they allow you to expand the range of pens you can use in your Cricut.  For people like me..that is HUGE…it has opened up a whole new world of potential projects that I wouldn’t normally attempt because my handwriting is terrible and my calligraphy skills.. non existent lol.  But not just that..  that means I can draw with so many more pens than before…

One of my favorites and one of the most popular pins on my pinterest page is this.. the powder embossing done on the Explore. Yup.. POWDER EMBOSSING drawn on the Cricut.

This allows me to take  designs and instead of cutting them, I can draw them and emboss them.. LOVE LOVE LOVE this.  There are other embossing pens, including one I made myself.. but these Zig Embossing pens coupled with the Chomas Adapter.. SWEET !!!

Anyone who is a regular on here knows how much I love my Zip pens.. and  most all of them will work in my Cricut with the adapter… with the exception of the  big chalk pens. But that is ok…. because I can outline on the Cricut then trace over it with my bigger pens when I want to do chalk signs.  Way better than anything I could ever achieve by hand.

And of course.. the ..  how could I not share what is probably my favorite paper to use on the Cricut.. this stuff is AWESOME.

It cuts beautifully, looks and feels amazing and gives a little extra something something to projects.

These projects were done with Black Velvet paper, but it comes in a bunch of other colors.. including white, which I love to print and color digital stamps on.

Did I mention stencils…  check out this etched glass beer stein I made a couple of years ago using a stencil I made and cut on the Cricut. This was for one of our message board challenges. I  Just cut my stencil from vinyl, slapped it on..slapped on etching cream and voila.. a fun beer mug  🙂

…so by now, if you are new to the Cricut….you are probably beginning to realize the Cricut can do a lot more than just use images on cartridges and on Design Space Access…. Yup you can upload your own designs or designs purchased elsewhere. Card templates, toppers, digital stamps.  I’ve  got a confession… I don’t subscribe to Access, I own probably 10 cartridges.. and I use my Cricut to make a lot of cool projects.   So if the price of Access, or the designs not being to your taste is something that was holding you back ..  never fear… this machine still has a lot to offer.

Print and Cut is fantastic, and when the DS3 ( Design Space update) comes out soon… it’s going to be even better.  I for one.. can’t wait.  DS3 has so many cool new features… admittedly there are still some things I would love to have added on…  because I am used to having them in my graphics programs.. but it’s not a big deal to do it externally and then upload them.

Check out some of these fun projects done using Cricut Print and cut…

Both versions appear to come with 9 rolls of adhesive foil and 2 cartridges… the US one supposedly has one cartridge that is not available in Cricut Access… and Canada get two unavailable  in access cartridges.   Although this may vary ??

 USA Customers

I know we have a lot of new Cricut owners after the fab Black Friday & Cyber Monday Sales who you may not know about the Mystery Boxes yet.  Congratulations on your new machines  .. now be prepared to grab some goodies to go with it.  Every month Cricut release a Mystery Box..and  it is exactly  that…. a mystery.  Well it is till yours arrives, or someone tells you what came in theirs lol.  Trust me ..someone will LOL  … but  then the problem you have is  making sure you grab yours before it’s gone.  These boxes are very popular and the  deep discount ones can fly out the door before you can say YES PLEASE.

They will vary from month to month in both value and contents.  The great thing about being a new Cricut owner is that you are highly unlikely to be getting duplicates you can’t use….  so if you want to build up your cartridge collection, this is a great way to get started.

Even if you get a duplicate… there are groups dedicated to mystery box swaps so  you can alwys find someone who has something you want from a previous  box.

ok… so enough.. go grab your boxes.. make sure you pick the right one.. and be sure to use your extra discount coupons for an even better deal.

Smart Bargains – Ribbon steals and deals WOW !

If you love ribbon..you need to check this place out. “Smart Bargains are great deals on limited quantity jewelry-making supplies. Enjoy outlet store pricing on findings, gemstone beads, pearls, glass beads, tools and much more. Shop awesome assortments that are bargain priced to sell fast.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t have a huge selection of ribbons…. I buy a bit here and there as I can afford them  …. but this place.. crazy prices.. I saw ribbons as low as 8 cents a meter.

Quick n simple Make it Crafty – “Flirty Seniors” card

I love this image from Make it Crafty…. so many  fun sentiments that could be used with this one. I haven’t added the sentiment yet, still working on it, but wanted to share this image in case anyone else was looking for a cute  and humorous card for an older friend or relative. It would work great for an anniversary card, or birthday card too.

Sentiment ideas.. “75 and Still Rockin’ all night long!” ( age can be modified to suit )

“Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll … well according to Meatloaf, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad”

I colored this one with Ranger Distress pens and cut the stitched  edge with a Gina Marie Rectangular stitched die. Very quick and simple, but cute card.

Scrapper’s Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project

Wow .. I’m still in shock that I got invited to join this team …. I love doing these challenges, so it was a fab surprise to find that invite in my inbox.  Thank you 🙂

So here it is .. my  first Scrappers Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project.  I have been neglecting my poor old Cricut Explore lately and getting caught up with other ideas and projects…. but I really wanted  to  use this cut file again, so here it is.  I hope you like this project, it’s really quite a simple card to make and  this cut file is so versatile. I’ve used it for a few different projects in the past… male and female.  I wanted to keep it relatively clean, so  the sentiment is behind the image, you can see it better in the second image

  • Card base is a CraftsUPrint cut file cup323867_1415 by Rae Carr.  This particular file has additional pieces that I didn’t use.  It’s cut on Dollar Store, glitter poster board card.  This was resized and cut on the Cricut Explore to make a 5×5 card.
  • Image is by Scrappers Delights and she is colored with a mix of Ranger distress pens, Zig Kurecolor and Zig Brushables from the Zig Memory System set..and a touch of Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust on the hair bands and slippers.  I also added some  blue Sakura Glaze on the hair for shine and texture.
  • Flowers are from Michaels
  • Sentiment is a die cut on blue Recollections card to match the trellis backing, cut on My Sizzix Big Shot.
  • Xyron Mega runner 1/4 inch adhesive
