Well Cricut sure have been busy… and so have we.  Summer vacations (I wish), getting ready for back to school and all those fun summer weddings and get togethers.  As most of you know  my son is  going to be homeschooled, so crafting is a huge part of our life.

No one said education had to be boring… right LOL

Even though he isn’t technically starting homeschooling till next year, we still do a lot of fun projects designed to help him learn and have fun and be creative all at the same time. Part of that is our abandoned art projects, which is so much fun to do with kids and teaches them to give freely and enjoy it.

Now I wish we had this new Cricut Maker, have you seen this beauty yet? It’s due for release TODAY !!!!. I checked out the video and almost  died when I saw that not only will it cut fabrics, but it’s also  cutting wood  as well as all the stuff we usually do on our Cricuts like paper and vinyl.

Interchangeable cutting heads and the separate pen holders too. I used to own a scroll saw many years ago and this looks like it’s going to do the same kind of fret work that I did back then…..  VERY cool.  Can’t wait to see this one roll out… !!! woohoo.  I think my stepdaughter in Australia  might like this one, she’s a big sewer.

Shop new arrivals from Cricut!

and then of course there is the recent arrival of the light box... I know  that would be really useful for  us, specially me with my aging eyes.

Shop the Cricut BrightPad today!

…and then they up the ante with the new Cricut Easypress..  think of all the fun shirts you can create for back to school.  Kids just love getting a new school wardrobe every year… and the money you can save and being unique… what kid doesn’t want to have something cool and unique.  I hate ironing, but this… I have to confess I think I’d use for every day ironing too lol.  I know this is something one of my DT girls would love, she’s big on HTV projects… I am so sorry Donna lol.  Hopefully you already saw that and won’t blame me haha.  It looks so cool though doesn’t it.

Shop new arrivals from Cricut!Cricut sure are trying to  get us set up for winter with some fab new toys to keep us busy once the summer is over and we get done with back to school, wedding and summer projects. Then the weather starts to cool and we have more time indoors.  It’s right on target for when most of us start thinking about the fall holidays and Christmas gift projects we have to  get stuck into over the coming months.

Finally got to set up my big portable draft table

Hubby’s Grandma is an interior designer and a couple of years ago she gave me her old portable draft table that she had when she was doing classes. She didn’t need it anymore and it had been sat in a corner gathering dust, so she thought I might be able to make use of it.  It’s big…which is great…. but I really didn’t have anywhere I could put it without taking up valuable space..so it sat in my closet instead lol.

Well ..I have a few wood projects I wanted to tackle and as some of you know, I live in an apt, so  no workshop any more. Pretty much no tools anymore either, dang but I miss my old crafty workshop back in the UK.  Anyways I finally bit the bullet and stopped “making do” without a bench.. I got a cheapie Black and Decker bench, cost me all of $30 at Walmart. I figured I could just fold it away in a closet when I wasn’t using it.

WRONG !!!

I put it together in the wee hours while everyone was asleep and  then had a genius moment… I could  use that as a base for the draft table… and just take the draft table off when I had wood projects to do… GENIUS..

I just dropped it in the corner of my bay window  so I have  some natural light.  ok so maybe not the most high tech fancy looking draft table.. but it works, it’s cheap and it can pack up in a closet at any time and doubles as a woodworking bench when needed.

It is also the perfect place to pop my WRMK Laser Square which I didn’t really have space to leave assembled…and my Bluetooth Cell Phone base.  Now I can make answer calls again when my lil man runs off with my cell phone to watch Youtube Kids in the bathroom lol. He’s all male, that kid will sit there for hours if you don’t make him get off the pot lol.

So now I have my work bench and a draft table and  a place with natural light to photograph projects AND a place for my Laser Square and  it didn’t cost the earth or take up a lot of room.
Happy clam .. now I just need to get rid of that dang Cat 5 cable and finish tidying up in here 🙂  Excuse the mess lol.
I still plan to use my little desktop easel I made  to do most of my coloring, but this is going to be really handy to have too.

ReallyColor….or Really Cool ?

I ran across these guys and my curiosity got the better of me… I think I might have to try this one out myself.  For $3.99 for a credit pack, I’m definitely up for giving this one a shot.

Now before we get into this.. let me state quite clearly A this is one of my new affiliates I signed up with, so YES I will be compensated if anyone tries this… and B.. I haven’t tried it YET myself, so I can’t vouch for the quality…. but it looks really cool. Like most of these type of services, it does  make a difference  in results, depending on the quality of images you send to them… so bear that in mind and pay attention to their recommendations.

The concept behind this is that you upload/send a photo to ReallyColor and they turn it into a line drawing/coloring page for you.  I have to say the prices are pretty impressive if  you can get the results you want from the pictures you choose.  Prices start at 29 cents an image.

ReallyColor-ShareASaleImage1

One of the things I really like about this is:

Can I make small edits to my coloring page?

Yes. There is an editor built into the conversion tool. Spend as little or as much time on your final coloring page as you wish. You can make small improvements like delete lines under eyes, quickly click away unwanted spots, or spend time making everything perfect. The free drawing feature allows you to fill in lines in your coloring page, or “hand draw” text, stick figures, or whatever impressive free-style drawing you come up with yourself.”

That alone is a great incentive to give this a shot.. but then I read this too.. and I like the idea of my images not being stored, unless I want them to be.

Do you store my images and completed coloring pages?

No. Once you complete your coloring page, it will be available for download right there as well as be sent to the email address you give us for your own safekeeping. However, if you decide to share your coloring page on Facebook or other social media directly from the ReallyColor web site by clicking our SHARE button, that photo and coloring page will remain on our servers in order for your post to be able to successfully link back to the ReallyColor web site. If you simply share the image of your coloring page as an attached photo in a social media post, that coloring page will not be stored on our servers in any way.

“Who can see my photo?

Once your photos have been uploaded and you have downloaded and received your coloring pages, your content is removed from our servers. We do this for your privacy and security. However, if you decide to share your coloring page on Facebook or other social media directly from the ReallyColor web site by clicking our SHARE button, that photo and coloring page will be viewable by anybody who clicks on the link in your post. If you simply share the image of your coloring page as an attached photo in a social media post, that coloring page will not be stored on our servers in any way.”

I am not absolutely sure, but it sounds like you  get a guestimated result before you use the credit?  if anyone  tries this before I get a chance to…. please let me know if you get the chance to preview the image, or just get a score and can change your mind about which image to use….if the photo you chose isn’t producing the results you wanted.

“Can you tell us whether or not our original image will turn into a good coloring page?

Our conversion tool now offers a new, sophisticated scoring tool custom-built by our image science team. It will analyze your original photo when you upload it and assign to it a quality score between 1 and 100. This should set your expectations prior to continuing the conversion process. A score above 50 is usually pretty good.”

Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paints

gansai_tambi_box

Gansai Tambi Watercolor set

Well… It’s been a rather expensive month all round really… between craft supplies and server/website upgrade costs. But  boy did I get a tonne of  fun new stuff.  Really…. I have soo much new stuff to play with this winter, I might never leave the house till spring haha

You may, or may not have read the post I did a while back about dry inking.  I’m not a hand colorer, so when I discovered this technique by accident… I had a lot of  fun with it.  But ink pads are a bit limiting and killer on your brushes… luckily I had a set that I got 50% off at Michaels for me and the little guy to use, they are built tough enough to withstand a toddler….and dry inking!

Gansai Tambi Watercolor set 24 count

Gansai Tambi Watercolor set 24 count

But I wanted to try something else and when I came across this set of Gansai Tambi watercolors  I was like OOOHHHH !!  Now you can probably tell from  previous posts, I’m a stuck in the mud digital colorer ….determined to bust out and try new things.  I haven’t really done any painting since I was in school…and even then I was awful at it.  I think that is why my artistic nature sprouted out into photography.

But here I am at the grand old age of 45…  trying all sorts of new crafting things I never thought I would attempt.  Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.. These were very reasonably prices and even more so with the discount code available on ZigManga.com

I originally bought my Cricut Explore to make custom photo mats… thus far I have made one LOL

Then I got hooked into card making by the ladies on the message board… and oh dear.. let’s just say that was not attractive.  But under their guidance and wisdom, my card making has improved dramatically and I am ready to  break out and experiment.   Of course when the old Cricut Forum closed down and I offered to make us a new home, I had no idea where this was going to go.  But I seem to be wearing my old webmistress hat again… I guess fashion really does rotate… even virtual fashion LOL.

First attempt at Watercolors with rubber stamps ….on an old envleope

So while the server was dying and I was on the phone for hours and hours with tech support… I grabbed a pot of water and started playing, bear in mind I am NOT an artist and this was about 5 am and I had been up all night… but I have to say.. I like these paints a lot.  With winter coming this is definitely going to be something I use a lot in the evening to relax and hopefully It won’t take too long before I have reasonably cool projects to share.

These are considered professional water colors… so perhaps I should have started off with a beginner set.. but when have I ever been conventional.

watercolor2

Second attempt at Watercoloring with Gansai Tambi on 110lb card stock using a rubber stamp for design

One of the things I love about these paints is you can manipulate this media to suit your own tastes.  To me watercolor has always been a bit ….’wishy washy, for want of a better description.

Far too subtle for someone like me LOL,  but I noticed that when your mix is more paint than water, at least with this set…. you get strong vibrant colors with a slight sheen to them, which I like a lot.

I really do need to work on my subtlety though….so I am sure  by next year and some winter painting practise, lots of youtube videos and just goofing around… some of my watercolor painting will end up in the card challenges over on the message board.

So here we are, almost ready for another new year and boy do I have some fun stuff  to play with and share… November was a crazy shopping month for me and the little guy, so get ready for some fun projects.

I must let my niece know about these, she does beautiful watercolors. I have no idea where she got that from, must be her dads side of the family LOL

I love the box on these… I was expecting the old tin style paint box for some reason. If you bought this as a gift, you wouldn’t even need to wrap it, just throw a matching ribbon around it and tag this baby and you are done. Beautifully presented !
