12×12 Framed Scrapbook page

I love messing around with  12×12 …. but I am not a scrapbooker.  I prefer to frame them and use them as art instead, so…. here’s another fun framed art.. very simple but cute.
The image was print and cut on the Cricut Explore, colored with Chameleon Pens and then attached with Zig 2 Way glue to a 12×12 sheet of paper I acquired from a fellow crafter who was de-stashing.

There is plenty of room  for a poem, or a Sentiment if so inclined …

This image is Girls Happy Trio by Bugaboo stamps  who is  the sponsor for our Monthly Bugaboo Crafty Challenge.  Whether you are a card maker, or dabble in  other craft forms.. these images are so much fun to color and use…so grab your Bugaboo’s and come on over and show us your style.

Sneaky Peek.. You’ve been Framed !

So.. ready for a sneaky peek at a few more  fancy frames using the Gina Marie Designs Die Collection?  As you can tell I added a few more fun die sets to my collection this week .. so now I have even MORE combinations I can make up and play with.

I just ordered my final missing  die that I REALLY wanted for this project, the Dot Stud Rectangles.   The Dot Studs are the ones with the larger circle cuts…I have the circles now..as you can see in the picture and  already had squares, but Rectangles were  out of stock and I  REALLY REALLY like  the Dot Studs, so I had to go hunt a set down.  I think these are my favorite of all the IN/Out dies….  I hope that gets here soon.

There are so many combinations for this technique… and it’s such a great way to get a Bonus cut from your in and outs… expect to see these  A LOT in projects 🙂

Attack the Scrap Bucket ! fun project for kids and grown ups

We’ve all seen those fun Magnetic word sets that you use on your fridge, or freezer .. here’s a way to make your own. Great project for crafty homeschoolers, teachers, business signs or people who need something a little bit different from the usual word sets.
alphamgnets
I was lucky enough to have some tails from Cohas (formerly ZiggBoard) Magnetic Sheets that I could cut into strips to make these letters and words.  You may have seen previous post where I started making letters and numbers for the lil man .. now we are progressing onto words and  so I got out my MFT Bottlecap letters die and off we went again.  I won’t lie… it’s a time consuming project… we all know it takes a lot  LOT of letters  to make up enough single letters to form a decent amount of words.ziggy_alpha3 I probably cut and assembled at least 10 sets of individual letters.. probably more  and I already cut out at least 8 sets to start forming word magnets. There are going to be a lot of letters you use A LOT and some you don’t use so much.. just store those for later.  As your kids vocabulary grows, you will be able to use those up to expand your set.  Anyone who is homeschooling already knows that it’s time consuming, but VERY rewarding and totally worth the time and money spent.

These dies are totally worth grabbing because you can use them for so many projects, both fun and educational for years to come.

Name tags, labels, cards, magnets, stickers …so many fun things.

Ok so what did I use?… pretty simple project.. as I said.. just time consuming

  • Cohas Magnetic sheet cut into strips
  • 110lb Card from my scrap box…I have a tonne of this from my Cricut Print & cut projects.  Now they are expanding the Print & Cut dimensions to fit almost a full 8.5×11 this will reduce my scraps… but even so..right now I have enough to make alphabet sets for half the neighborhood lol.
  • Mod Podge I use this to cover the strip first and attach the letters then add a coat on top to seal them in.
  • My Favorite Things Bottlecap Alphabet Dies
  • paint brush to apply the Mod Podge
  • TIME.. and Patience.. even if you just do a few strips at a time… it adds up to a decent set  fairly quickly

Of course if you are a good crafter who doesn’t have a pile of scraps lying around waiting for that “maybe one day project”.. you can always print your letters on printable Vinyl or adhesive label sheets and just cut it into strips. Less time consuming but I am determined to attack my scrap bucket  before this year is done!!! lol  Plus it is kind of fun letting him add a couple of strips at a time to the freezer, so he isn’t overwhelmed with a tonne of new words.

On a totally off topic random  thought.. just because we are on a sort of educational thing anyway.  We were in Toys R Us today and a lady was there, obviously overwhelmed by all the toys… she asked him how old he was. And I could tell she was hoping he was around the same age as someone she was shopping for.  Turns out she has a young relative flying in for Christmas and was struggling to find a  suitable gift.  She had a set of Power Ranger figures in her hand and asked him if he thought they were cool.  All she knew was the kid liked Super hero’s.

Well hot damned if my little guy didn’t jump in like the Bloody Toy Ambassador for Toys R US.. and dragged that poor lady all over the store showing her everything he wanted for Christmas lol… with a toy review and running commentary all the way. We started with Five Nights At Freddy, hit the Educational aisle where he proceeded to tell her how great the squishy Body  kit was..and reeled off  all the body parts shown on the back of the box, dragged her off to see Grossery Gang and the yuck truck on another aisle… then onto Imaginext vehicles and buildings… followed by transformers and finishing up with Octonauts.

Poor lady haha.. he talked her ear off for a solid half hour I think while dragging her round the store haha.  She was  in awe of his knowledge… specially when he started naming all the body parts…  and yes  he is getting that for Christmas, he just doesn’t know it yet LOL. ‘His Big’ sister in Australia is getting him that. It will be a fun start to his homeschooling science learning.

So proud of my lil man… that is the second time this month he has helped someone out in toys R US who was having probs picking gifts.

and back on track again…

Now I know decent Magnetic sheet is not always easy to come by, but I have used this magnetic sheet for all sorts of fun projects myself … from picture magnets,  to Metal Die storage.   If anyone is interested in what I would call it a crafters grab bag those will be available early next year.  These will most likely be pre-cut ready to go pieces in various shapes and sizes.

Need something other than alphabets, numbers and words?  want to make picture blocks, fun gifts, organization tags….or just have some fun and attach fun crafty items to cards etc … or decorate your locker.  This magnetic sheet is awesome,  everyone should have a bag of this in their stash.

Here are a few  of the other items I have made in the past.. search for magnet on the blog or have a wander through the projects tab at the top of the page for details on those projects.  and expect to see more of these projects next year.. I have some ideas I am dabbling with.

Craftsuprint Steampunk meets Gina Marie Designs

If you follow the blog you will have seen the recent 12×12 Steampunk page I did featuring “Brianna Blaster” from KennyK stamps and a Tina Fitch Craftsuprint clock cut file. The cogs that were used on that project for the background stencil and cog embellishments came from this kit, also by Tina Fitch. I personalized the cut file with some Gina Marie Dies.. using the lattice panel from the Lacey Lattice set I just bought and also added in a butterfly and sentiment, also cut from Gina Marie Dies.

Be sure to check out the recent post about weeding these intricate dies and the “crafters toothbrush”  and a couple of card projects using these dies in a much softer project.   Versatility  is very important to me, I’m on a tight budget and need my supplies to work for their keep ….it’s got to be something I can use again and again and get a fresh look each time.

The cogs were given a metallic finish using Faber Castell Gellato’s and the gold layer of the butterfly was a split from some dollar store gold glitter card. I split the glitter layer from the card layer to give it a thinner, softer touch. I love the cog section of this cut file… it’s such a great pattern and so useful for so many other projects too.  This one was cut from a SVG file on the Cricut Explore, but is available in other machine formats too.

“Brianna Blaster” Steampunk Scrapbook Album Cover

LOVED making this…. Another one of the fab cut files I picked up with my winnings over at CUP the other week.. well actually, technically it’s two lol. I swiped elements of another steampunk card by the same designer and added them in to this project showcasing her clock design.  You’ll get to see that one and more details later this week.

I am not totally sure if this will end up as an album cover or if it may end up in a shadow box frame… we shall see. Details and supplies are below the image.

cup_kk_steampunk_page_wmded2

The page is a 12×12 sheet from a Neutral Solid color pad by Craft Smith. I inked up the background using the larger cog cut out and a Craft Smart Dye ink pad.. very quick and haphazard..it’s intentionally patchy for the overall effect…. so a very easy technique for steampunk backgrounds.

3/4 fold Christmas card

Really quick n simple 3/4 fold card that could be used for a variety of things….money card, gift card holder, or a fun 3/4 fold Christmas card… with matching envelope.

Image was printed on 110lb Georgia Pacific Index card, colored with my usual mix of Chameleon, Zig Kurecolor  and some Ranger Distress Markers…with a touch of Wink of Stella for some glam.
pixie_dust_wmdThe inside of the card was then lined with a glitter card stock.. nothing fancy, just dollar store card .. but it gives a  touch of glam and glitz to the card and strengthens the design for mailing if necessary.  The 3/4 edge was punched with a Martha Stewart Punch by the name of Aspen.  a co-ordinating strip was added to a matching envelope along with some matching snowflakes.

This image is a Scrapper’s Delights Image “Winter Elf Digi

I really like the Tim Holtz “Tumbled Glass”  pen for ice and snow effects and for adding a touch of color and shading to white fabrics etc. on images.

To turn it into a cash/gift card/ticket holder etc.. simply  glue/tape down the top and bottom edges of the 3/4 fold…and Voila…. insta pocket.

Ancient Egypt Pop Out Stepper Birthday Card

I decided against a Halloween themed card for this image …and went for something totally different.  The  “twist” was to do a pop out, or stepped card and I just happened to have a cut file for step cards that I had picked up last year from Rae Carr on Craftsuprint.  It needed a little modification to fit in with my Egyptian theme… but the file was exactly what I needed for this.

The front of the card is very unassuming, all the action is on the  inside.  This was one of my supersized cards… the card base and stepped insert were cut from 11×17 card..so  this resulted in a hefty 8.5×11 card…. Kewl !!!

The front was a printed 8.5×11 sheet that I colored with  a mix of Chameleon and Zig Kurecolor pens..and a touch of Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Ink pens.  The edges were distressed with Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads.  Very “rustic” coloring to keep in the ancient theme. The background was dry inked ( fat brush and inkpads)  for a worn and weathered look.
SD_FF_mummy_front_wmd

The inside stepper was cut to form a pyramid shape and was also dry inked to give a sandstone type look to it.  The lettering was done using  My favorite things, Die-namics Bottlecap dies. The palm trees were from another Scrapper’s Delights  collection and worked perfectly for this project.

SD_FF_mummy_stepper_wmd SD_FF_mummy_inner_wmd

I just cut the pyramid shape out of the palm image, so that it wasn’t bulky behind the pyramid.  The sky was also dry inked using Craft Smart ink pads.  The base was printed on white card and cut to fit the pyramid stepper base.

….so there we have it.. a quick, fun, old age humor card

 Supplies used:

11×17  110lb Neenah Index card for base and  stepper insert
8.5×11 regular inkjet paper for the cover image
Recollections card in muted tones for the lettering
8.5×11 110lb index card for the Birthday sentiment

Inside images printed on 8.5 x 11 110lb index card

Mummy – The Mummy
Palm Trees –  Jungle Palms

Colored with:

Chameleon pens

Zig Kurecolor ( full color range)

Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Pens

Spotlight mystery box contents revealed.

Well now our winner has her prize and has had a chance to  go through it all and  check it out, I can reveal the contents.  Our lucky winner was Tee Hall  from The Altered Paper, you can check out her post about her prize here.

Literary-Luncheon-banner

Now those of you that were following the spotlight  know that I had requested a few specific items  to be included and that the box was the prize for the Amy Chomas Spotlight.  I matched the spotlight and prize sponsor for a reason, the Amy Chomas Adapters mean… you can use these pens on your Cricut Explore etc …and  one of these items I absolutely LOVE using on my Cricut.

ok so… let’s have a quick look see what Tee had in her box…

The picture from top left to bottom right:

and now for the fun part… I have most.. but not all of these products myself.  For those of you who missed out on previous posts, I am going to add in  some links to some past posts. If you want to see more of the  product from Craftingability.com (ImageAbility) and projects made with them ..just do a search on the blog for “Zig” or “craftingability”.

This is where I get those Zig Kurecolor markers I love so much, you may have seen I recently had a giveaway for the skintone pack  and where I will be getting a set of Zig Clean Colors from soon I hope 🙂  It’s also where I bought my Gansai Tambi watercolors & Wink of Stella/Luna pens.

One of my favorites has to be the embossing pens.  LOVE LOVE LOVE these pens and they work fabulously for writing and drawing in your machines using the Chomas Marker Adapter.

..and then we have  the slate…. I LOVE this slate, but let’s face it.. my handwriting sucks and you can’t run this through the Cricut even with a fab adapter lol.  But there are so many ways to use this slate, it’s gorgeous…. you just have to think outside the box.   Stencils, transfer paper, stamping …or you can be like me and go totally in the other direction.  I love to do 3D decoupage layered images….  so my first project with this slate was this one.

New Hampshire Slate & 3D layered image wall plaque

And then of course we have the Magnetic”tails” as Steve likes to refer to them.  This was an extra item I asked to have included, it’s just a sample pack, end of rolls.. 2nds etc.

kk_magnet_velvet

Imageability make a  lot of Magnetic sheet products for commercial and  personal use including the calendar which was included in the prize box.   Now this  means there are end of roll pieces that aren’t big enough to use for that..BUT….. it’s perfect for crafters.

ziggy_alpha3

Steve’s idea of end of roll “scraps” or “tails” make me laugh… and his idea of seconds…even more so.  I have bought retail products with more defects lol.   Bless his heart but  you can’t fault them for their Quality Control.

die_storage

I  have been trying to convince him to sell his “tail” oooo er missus !!  naughty girls… I mean his magnetic tails…  in a crafters grab bag of some sort.  They are perfect for  crafters who like to do magnets, or someone needing a way to store and display their metal dies.

If you are interested in a grab bag,  leave a comment and I’ll  pass them along so he can see if there is enough interest to make it worth them packaging these up and working out a deal for Crafting Circle readers to get their hands on one..  When Steve says  tails and seconds… We’re talking  minimum of 6×6 .. right the way up to 24x24inches.  Don’t get too excited ..the bigger pieces are not as common, but there would probably be a fair selection of sizes in a grab bag.

By his definition –

“Seconds, they have a scratch or bump on them.  Even something you can only see with a magnifying glass is a second.  I would say seconds are better than tails.”

I can honestly say his seconds don’t look like seconds to me …  and even the tails… if you are using them for projects and it’s going to be covered with a design or used for die storage….  no brainer.   I’ll take all the seconds and tails in a heartbeat… I have loads of fun projects they are great for.

It cuts like a dream on machines, die cutters like the Big Shot and by hand or with a  paper trimmer.   Check out some of the projects I have made with… his “tails”

You may or may not remember one of the very first items I got from CraftingAbility was  the Memory System Collection,  that set contains a mix of pens  and I love it.  This is what prompted me to request the white chalk writer pen seen in the prize package.  My collection had a selection of those chalk pens with various tips .. but they can also be purchased separately, or in sets with specific tips.  I have my eye on the  writer top set.  Another great pen to use in my Cricut with the adapter.  You can see them in action on  the Collection review, see post link below.
