IHEART Ants!

Here is my second DT projects for the Crafty Awesomeness Challenge which is sponsored by Sasayaki Glitter this month . this is the same image my son watercolored for his thank you card.. it’s so piggin cute..and somehow Gina must be psychic. These fun ant dies from Gina Marie Designs were in my packet with my last order..just in time for this project.

This isn’t a die set I wouldn’t normally have ordered…. but they are fab for this image and I love how this turned out.  They are one of those fun sets that you don’t know you need, till you get them.

Image is Image #13 – Heart Ants printed on Canson Mix Media 9×12icon paper and colored with Zig Clean color markers
Ants are cut from 65lb black Recollections card using Ants Die Set by Gina Marie Designs
Flowers are acetate die cuts colored with Chameleon pens and some beads glued in the center.
The lattice is part of a set called 3 Trellis Mats by Clive Couter on CraftsUPrint, the set has a bunch of cuts so it’s a handy one to have for allsorts of projects.  I cut these on my Cricut Explore using 65lb Recollections card.
Adhesives used were Zig Photo Tape and Zig 2  way glue

Attack the Scrap Bucket ! fun project for kids and grown ups

We’ve all seen those fun Magnetic word sets that you use on your fridge, or freezer .. here’s a way to make your own. Great project for crafty homeschoolers, teachers, business signs or people who need something a little bit different from the usual word sets.
alphamgnets
I was lucky enough to have some tails from Cohas (formerly ZiggBoard) Magnetic Sheets that I could cut into strips to make these letters and words.  You may have seen previous post where I started making letters and numbers for the lil man .. now we are progressing onto words and  so I got out my MFT Bottlecap letters die and off we went again.  I won’t lie… it’s a time consuming project… we all know it takes a lot  LOT of letters  to make up enough single letters to form a decent amount of words.ziggy_alpha3 I probably cut and assembled at least 10 sets of individual letters.. probably more  and I already cut out at least 8 sets to start forming word magnets. There are going to be a lot of letters you use A LOT and some you don’t use so much.. just store those for later.  As your kids vocabulary grows, you will be able to use those up to expand your set.  Anyone who is homeschooling already knows that it’s time consuming, but VERY rewarding and totally worth the time and money spent.

These dies are totally worth grabbing because you can use them for so many projects, both fun and educational for years to come.

Name tags, labels, cards, magnets, stickers …so many fun things.

Ok so what did I use?… pretty simple project.. as I said.. just time consuming

  • Cohas Magnetic sheet cut into strips
  • 110lb Card from my scrap box…I have a tonne of this from my Cricut Print & cut projects.  Now they are expanding the Print & Cut dimensions to fit almost a full 8.5×11 this will reduce my scraps… but even so..right now I have enough to make alphabet sets for half the neighborhood lol.
  • Mod Podge I use this to cover the strip first and attach the letters then add a coat on top to seal them in.
  • My Favorite Things Bottlecap Alphabet Dies
  • paint brush to apply the Mod Podge
  • TIME.. and Patience.. even if you just do a few strips at a time… it adds up to a decent set  fairly quickly

Of course if you are a good crafter who doesn’t have a pile of scraps lying around waiting for that “maybe one day project”.. you can always print your letters on printable Vinyl or adhesive label sheets and just cut it into strips. Less time consuming but I am determined to attack my scrap bucket  before this year is done!!! lol  Plus it is kind of fun letting him add a couple of strips at a time to the freezer, so he isn’t overwhelmed with a tonne of new words.

On a totally off topic random  thought.. just because we are on a sort of educational thing anyway.  We were in Toys R Us today and a lady was there, obviously overwhelmed by all the toys… she asked him how old he was. And I could tell she was hoping he was around the same age as someone she was shopping for.  Turns out she has a young relative flying in for Christmas and was struggling to find a  suitable gift.  She had a set of Power Ranger figures in her hand and asked him if he thought they were cool.  All she knew was the kid liked Super hero’s.

Well hot damned if my little guy didn’t jump in like the Bloody Toy Ambassador for Toys R US.. and dragged that poor lady all over the store showing her everything he wanted for Christmas lol… with a toy review and running commentary all the way. We started with Five Nights At Freddy, hit the Educational aisle where he proceeded to tell her how great the squishy Body  kit was..and reeled off  all the body parts shown on the back of the box, dragged her off to see Grossery Gang and the yuck truck on another aisle… then onto Imaginext vehicles and buildings… followed by transformers and finishing up with Octonauts.

Poor lady haha.. he talked her ear off for a solid half hour I think while dragging her round the store haha.  She was  in awe of his knowledge… specially when he started naming all the body parts…  and yes  he is getting that for Christmas, he just doesn’t know it yet LOL. ‘His Big’ sister in Australia is getting him that. It will be a fun start to his homeschooling science learning.

So proud of my lil man… that is the second time this month he has helped someone out in toys R US who was having probs picking gifts.

and back on track again…

Now I know decent Magnetic sheet is not always easy to come by, but I have used this magnetic sheet for all sorts of fun projects myself … from picture magnets,  to Metal Die storage.   If anyone is interested in what I would call it a crafters grab bag those will be available early next year.  These will most likely be pre-cut ready to go pieces in various shapes and sizes.

Need something other than alphabets, numbers and words?  want to make picture blocks, fun gifts, organization tags….or just have some fun and attach fun crafty items to cards etc … or decorate your locker.  This magnetic sheet is awesome,  everyone should have a bag of this in their stash.

Here are a few  of the other items I have made in the past.. search for magnet on the blog or have a wander through the projects tab at the top of the page for details on those projects.  and expect to see more of these projects next year.. I have some ideas I am dabbling with.

Everything but the Cricut….and

..the varnish& glue came from Michaels craft stores….and that is just because I already had those  🙂 This is actually a project I made last year for  my self, but I think it would make a fab Abandoned Art piece, so I think I will make another one ..or two lol.

These are so easy and quick to make and you don’t have to use a state cut out mat frame, but it’s a fun idea if you want to.  It’s a cool project to do with  the kids too… the letters are all pre-cut, as are the wooden shapes. and they come in different fonts and shapes. You are sure to find something  that works no matter where you live, or what your theme is. These wooden shapes are cheap and plentiful and you can find those in any Michaels store.

Of course being here in Texas..  what else could I choose but a nice natural wood and a state of Texas photo mat.  You can pick up pre-cut mats, or buy sheets of it to cut your own… or  go without….whatever your preference and budget dictates. At $7 a sheet.. throw in a coupon… it aint looking so bad  now is it 🙂

The frame, letters and shapes are all readily available at Michaels and don’t cost an arm and a leg.   Slap on a quick swipe of  stain and voila..instant  personalized frame.   Fun piece to abandon… someone is gonna love your project and take it home and hang it on the wall with a family photo.. you wait n see.

If you don’t have stain lying around…  acrylic paints work great too, just water them down a bit and then  apply with a soft cloth and  then seal it.  That allows the wood grain to show through and with all the fun colors available…. sky’s the limit ! The selection of  unfinished wood pieces is awesome… frames, boxes, blanks .. so many options. Some of  my frames are like a $1 each, less if you are a nifty thrifty coupon wielding crafter….  so it doesn’t have to cost the earth to give the gift of a smile to someone.

Most all of the projects  in the Abandoned Art section  can be made for a couple of bucks or less and what price tag can you put on a smile on a strangers face ….and knowing you put it there 🙂texas_frame

Make someone smile today…. Abandon Away !

Life’s a Beach- shaped card project

This is my latest card featuring the Scrapper’s Delights new Freebie Friday image “Beach Babe Digi Stamps 2”  The challenge for us as DT’s, was to make a shaped card and /or not use designer pattern paper.  I took my image and combined it with another fun Scrapper’s Delights Image “Jungle Palms”, framed it with a circle and  printed it out on a full 8.5×11 sheet.  Scored and folded the sheet and then lined it with a contrasting sky blue card.

I stamped some white clouds on the inside using Stazon ink and then  I cut around the image by hand and  the straight edges with a wavy cut blade on my Fellowes Paper trimmer.

The image was colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens and Zig Kurecolor.  Sentiment is a stamp from Michaels seasonal stamps and  the shells were cut on gold glitter stick from a dollar store using Gina Marie Designs dies  ( if you missed it.. make sure you check the giveaways section for a chance to win a set )

And so here she is…. my Beach Babe.  Thanks for dropping by  🙂

Happy Mail…. Some Bling Bling!!

I love these nail art rhinestones… they are perfect for a touch of bling on cards.  I recently discovered that they also fit my  “My Little Paper World” corner dies perfectly too.  You can see that project  featuring a Conie Fong image here.  If you want some cheap bling and you aren’t worried about  waiting for it to arrive, these kits from Amazon are a great deal. I have a few more on the way, but the first set arrived today.  You can buy these individually if you have a specific need, but I wanted a mix of colors and shapes.. so I grabbed this 10 pack.

$8.99 for 15000 pieces, be warned.. great deal that these are… I am highly doubtful these packs contain anywhere near 15,000 pieces. But I’m not about to sit here and count them all LOL.  for what you pay, compared to the regular crafters supplies… I don’t think you will be disappointed at all.  Now these are  SMALL..  and I do mean small, so if you have problems handling small items.. I  highly recommend using some kind of tool with these.   a friend of mine sent me a picker upper thing and these literally suck up into the end of the tube almost exactly.. so if you use this type of picker upper, watch out for glue on the tip  when you place them 🙂

Bugaboo Bear Easel Card

Just a quickie card that could be for any occasion… I  popped a “Imagine” sentiment on this one as an inspirational desk piece for someone. It’s a bright cheerful card with popped elements for depth.  I trimmed the front edge shorter with a wavy blade on my cutter, because I didn’t want to decorate that space.

This is also my March card for our March 2016 Bugaboostamps/Executioner Combo Challenge

NanaDonna – Ziggyboard Project – Refrigerator Magnets

IMG_7750

ZiggyBoard Chalk Board vinyl magnets

I had seen something like this on Pinterest and when I received this Ziggyboard kit to try, I knew this would be the perfect project.

I made these refrigerator magnets.

I set up the file in Design Space and had my white Galaxy Marker write the swirls on the Chalkboard vinyl. The marker was a little fat writing so I am not entirely happy with how it looks, but as far  as writing on this vinyl it did great..

I then cut out the shape of the vinyl, which cut like butter with my Cricut Explore Then I cut the same shape from magnet material and using transfer tape I mounted the vinyl cutout onto the magnet.

I hand wrote the Notes, Menu, & Groceries on the vinyl using the white Chalkboard Zig Marker we got in the kit. It writes great and leaves a nice clean bold writing. Once it dries it is permanent and won’t wipe off when you have to wipe off your chalk notes.

I am still trying to design or figure out something to hold a piece of chalk on the frig next to the magnets so you can easily write stuff down on them. Plain old sidewalk chalk works great on this vinyl, then is easily wiped off.

I was very impressed with the vinyl and pen writers we got. The vinyl cut great and was very easy to apply to the magnet sheet. The kit was great and can’t wait to make thing out of the die cuts that were included.

The Ziggyboard vinyl products and Zig Posterman pens used in this project were provided free of charge for review purposes.

Great under $1, 30 minute gift idea for kids to make

This was just a quick little gift idea to make with your kids.wood_emboss

It’s very simple, just a piece of wood  stamped and embossed, colored with crayolas and then you can spray it with a clear acrylic sealer if needed.

Makes a great door, or wall hanger for the grandparents … if your kids are old enough to color between the lines it’s a super cute quick and cheap gift.   Just pop in some hooks and a chain…voila !!!  If they aren’t they can still stamp away…. my toddler stamps up a storm.

If you want to use clear embossing, you can use this as a resist and stain the piece instead.

Supplies were just some clear cling stamps, pigment ink, clear embossing powder and some wood  that comes in a 6 pack in most hobby stores for under $3… most stores have a selection of wood blanks so lots of shapes and sizes to choose from.

Makes a great all year round gift if you have the right selection of stamps.

Costs less than a $1 each to make… very quick project and super cute.
