Fort Worth Stockyards, TX – Art Abandonment Project

Well int that some $%#$%#$

I have lived in Texas just down the road from the Fort Worth Stockyards for 10 years now..and I have STILL never visited. It’s one of those places I always plan to visit, but just haven’t got round to…. but that will change.  The little guy is old enough to enjoy it now and  we have friends out that way…. and now I have the perfect excuse for a family outing to the Stockyards.  I just made a super simple picture frame,  which I hope one of the tourists decides they would love to put one of their photos from a visit in. It’s a  quick and easy project you can do with the kids and relatively cheap .. but still a cool find  for someone.

If you haven’t heard of the FW Stockyards.. check it out.  They have a twice daily cattle drive which apparently is a lot of fun… and of course some great photo ops for my lil CowPokey 🙂 Those are old pictures.. time for some new ones  🙂

Planned drop- Fort Worth Stockyards – Summer 2016

Be sure to check out the Art Abandonment Facebook Group and see all the fun things that are being abandoned ALL over the world. It’s a fabulous group and it’s for all types and levels of crafters and artist. A lot of us do this with our kids and grand kids, come on over and join in the fun. If you are lucky enough to find a piece, be sure to let the gifter know you found their artwork. Most pieces will have contact details for the group, or a private email you can use 🙂

Description
Art Abandonment is a group designed to encourage random acts of art, left in various locations around the globe. The idea is that folks can make something and leave it for a lucky unsuspecting person to find. Artists can then post locations and photos of abandoned goodies…and finders can let everyone know that they are the lucky finder! O’ sweet abandon!”

ReallyColor….or Really Cool ?

I ran across these guys and my curiosity got the better of me… I think I might have to try this one out myself.  For $3.99 for a credit pack, I’m definitely up for giving this one a shot.

Now before we get into this.. let me state quite clearly A this is one of my new affiliates I signed up with, so YES I will be compensated if anyone tries this… and B.. I haven’t tried it YET myself, so I can’t vouch for the quality…. but it looks really cool. Like most of these type of services, it does  make a difference  in results, depending on the quality of images you send to them… so bear that in mind and pay attention to their recommendations.

The concept behind this is that you upload/send a photo to ReallyColor and they turn it into a line drawing/coloring page for you.  I have to say the prices are pretty impressive if  you can get the results you want from the pictures you choose.  Prices start at 29 cents an image.

ReallyColor-ShareASaleImage1

One of the things I really like about this is:

Can I make small edits to my coloring page?

Yes. There is an editor built into the conversion tool. Spend as little or as much time on your final coloring page as you wish. You can make small improvements like delete lines under eyes, quickly click away unwanted spots, or spend time making everything perfect. The free drawing feature allows you to fill in lines in your coloring page, or “hand draw” text, stick figures, or whatever impressive free-style drawing you come up with yourself.”

That alone is a great incentive to give this a shot.. but then I read this too.. and I like the idea of my images not being stored, unless I want them to be.

Do you store my images and completed coloring pages?

No. Once you complete your coloring page, it will be available for download right there as well as be sent to the email address you give us for your own safekeeping. However, if you decide to share your coloring page on Facebook or other social media directly from the ReallyColor web site by clicking our SHARE button, that photo and coloring page will remain on our servers in order for your post to be able to successfully link back to the ReallyColor web site. If you simply share the image of your coloring page as an attached photo in a social media post, that coloring page will not be stored on our servers in any way.

“Who can see my photo?

Once your photos have been uploaded and you have downloaded and received your coloring pages, your content is removed from our servers. We do this for your privacy and security. However, if you decide to share your coloring page on Facebook or other social media directly from the ReallyColor web site by clicking our SHARE button, that photo and coloring page will be viewable by anybody who clicks on the link in your post. If you simply share the image of your coloring page as an attached photo in a social media post, that coloring page will not be stored on our servers in any way.”

I am not absolutely sure, but it sounds like you  get a guestimated result before you use the credit?  if anyone  tries this before I get a chance to…. please let me know if you get the chance to preview the image, or just get a score and can change your mind about which image to use….if the photo you chose isn’t producing the results you wanted.

“Can you tell us whether or not our original image will turn into a good coloring page?

Our conversion tool now offers a new, sophisticated scoring tool custom-built by our image science team. It will analyze your original photo when you upload it and assign to it a quality score between 1 and 100. This should set your expectations prior to continuing the conversion process. A score above 50 is usually pretty good.”

Couple of changes to the blog settings for visitors

comments

I just thought I would let you all know that registration/subscription to comment is no longer needed.

You can comment now using your email address and name …. comments have to be manually approved still….  for obvious reasons. So don’t bother wasting time if you plan to use it for advertising, or other BS…. trust me….I won’t be approving it … 🙂

But I thought this would make it easier for the casual visitors and also those who keep forgetting their login details  😛

I also added in share buttons for those of you who might find something interesting and wanted to share it to your own social media.  Find these new features at the bottom of every post 🙂

Is there Life after Cricut Message Board ?

It’s almost Christmas and I am sure a lot of lucky girls and boys will be unwrapping a new Cricut Explore in a few days.  As with any new toy, we all have questions… but where do you go for help?

Cricut closed their own message board in June of this year, much to the dismay of many users…. but never fear….. Cricut help is still out there. Thousands of users are willing to share their knowledge and ideas, tips and tutorials all over the web.

Two new message boards sprang up from the ashes of the old Cricut Message Board … our own, Crafting Circle ….which was started to keep the bi weekly card challenge group  alive and give it a new home.  There was also the Unofficial Cricut Board,  started by another group of Cricut members.  Both boards are still running 6 months later and are open to new members who need help and advice, or just want to hang out with fellow crafters and share projects.

board

Crafting Circle is not exclusively Cricut…. so you ladies and gents who own other machines are more than welcome to hop on over and join us.  We have sections for all kinds of crafts, however at this point…. the majority of members are  Cricut users.  But the other areas will only grow, if you come and participate and develop them… so feel free to hop in and start new discussions.

There are facebook groups, blogs, Youtube channels and websites dedicated to sharing Cricut knowledge with other users.  Whether card making, or scrapbooking is your thing….or you bought your Cricut to make unique home decor, tshirts,  stencils….and a gazillion other things you can do with this machine…there are still places and people for you to learn from.

No matter what your taste, style or budget…. trust me…. someone out there has the answer to your questions.  If you don’t have your Cricut yet and just want to explore the possibilities of which machine to buy, or you just like to check out all the creations for inspiration…. somebody  can point you in the right direction.

I  don’t post reviews and information on other machines, simply because …..I don’t own one.   If that changes…. then so will my blog posts, but for now my blog is mainly centered around  Cricut and my Sizzix Big shot …and other non paper crafts.

When the announcement was made to close the official Cricut Message Board, a  member very kindly compiled a list of places to get help.  You can find a copy of that list HERE on our message board, it’s available to non members too.  We’d love to have you join us if you would so desire, but it isn’t necessary to access the information.

If you are looking for a  place to hangout and get ideas, learn from fellow crafters and try new ideas and techniques… come on over and join us on the Message Board.  Most areas require registration and new members are under post moderation for a short period, this is simply to deter spam from ruining our board like many others, including the late Cricut Board.

We have 5 monthly challenges as  well as our long running Wednesday Bi Weekly Card Challenge. The Bi weekly is a sketch based challenge with Extra Credit ideas and Ad Colors.

Modern Day – I created Frankenstein Challenge is a monthly challenge that is not card related…  past challenges have included gift boxes, shirt decorating, Halloween containers and  the like.

We have a regular sponsored coloring challenge, Creative Coloring Card Challenge….  which is sponsored by the Awesome KennyK.

We have another sponsored card challenge, Bugaboo Stamp Members Choice Challenge with the awesome Bugaboo stamps as our sponsor and  members vote for their favorite.

We have a 3rd coloring challenge, Creative Coloring Card Challenge ….this one features a different digital artist each month.

And last, but not least we have our I am the Executioner – Card Challenge!!!!, this one is to lean new card styles and techniques.

so all you knew Cricut owners.. Welcome to the family 🙂

This post contains some affiliate links and I will be compensated for purchases made using those links.
