Velvet and Acetate fairy layers birthday card

This is one of my latest  cut file purchases ..isn’t she cute.  I decided to go with a bold contrast look and  chose silver glitter for the card base, an acetate window and black velvet paper over 110lb card stock to create this cute card. The Fairy topper was cut on the Cricut Explore from a CraftsUPrint cut file.   The texture on this card is quite cool…. smooth acetate, fine textured glitter  card and then the lush velvet… makes for a great tactile card.

Perfect packaging for small gifts and stocking stuffers

What a cute way to wrap small gifts… specially those standby gifts for unexpected visitors, or small tokens of appreciation to  delivery drivers, colleagues etc.

  • candy
  • cookies
  • silk scarf
  • perfume/cologne
  • stocking stuffers
  • Blind bag toys
  • jewelry
  • lipstick
  • tree decoration
  • cash
  • Craft Supplies  .. and so much more

This is a great one sheet cut design… only one seam to glue or tape; really quick to cut and assemble…   tie  off the end, stuff, tie off the other end… and decorate as desired.  I actually added a reinforcement band  to mine, for looks and because it will be holding something a bit bulky.  Of course you can make these in any size you want, you can supersize it by splitting the design and using two glue tabbed sections instead and cutting each one on a larger sheet.

Fab way to wrap up  paint brushes, crafters pens and pencils, ink pads, embossing powders, stamps and other small items.  I like to hide presents on the tree as well as under it, so this is perfect for people like me  who like to keep a few hidden presents in plain sight.  These look to be the perfect size for those seasonal stamps at Michaels which we usually grab for the little guys collection.  Fimo Polymer clays would be fun in something like these too… and I bet this would be fab for making small craft kit gifts for kids too.  So many uses 🙂

This is a CraftsUPrint file by Rae Carr  called “175 Christmas Cracker Box”  I cut it on a 12×12 sheet of Craft Smith from their Silver Foil pad.  This particular cracker measure 10 inches in length and  is about 2 1/4 inch  squared.  The main storage area before it starts to curve  in is approximately 3 and a half inches. But of course, you can modify the cut file dimensions to suite your I did by unlocking the file dimensions if needed.

rae_crackerboxI added in the green glitter card band and  some matching ribbon ties, a few bells and some die cuts …  very easy file to assemble and decorate… and perfect for those of  you who find wrapping paper and tape to be like attempting brain surgery lol.

Love this file, definitely one I will be using a lot next year…. I am already planning ahead for next years projects.. * sigh  haha.  The fun thing is because of the design it could be used all year round, not just kind of looks like a big wrapped candy.

Quick n easy last minute Christmas cards…

I picked up a bunch of new cut files last night ..and despite the shenanigans of the day….

..for those of you not on my Facebook.. 50 degree drop in temps, broken window all in one day… not fun

BUT … despite all that I did actually get to  knock out some quick last minute cards.

These are so quick and easy to put together and very quick CAS, clean and simple cards …and the files are so easy to  tweak to suit your needs.

so here you go..  I have a few more in progress… but here are the 4 I knocked out earlier. I’m having a glitter card session, for a little holiday glam.  Cut Files are from CraftsUPrint Designers.

This one is a “bow” cut file by Lyn Simms.  It’s a 3 piece cut file, which comes in various formats.  Mine is a SVG file and I did mine on black Velvet Paper. It has a soft flexible feels to it so won’t get damaged in transit. This velvet paper cuts like a dream on the Cricut Explore and just looks so cool.

I added in a black and Green contrast strip which I ran through a striped Darice embossing folder on my Big Shot.

Added in a  black and White floral pattern from my Recollections Black & White paper pad. Mounted it all on a basic Recollections card from a multi pack.

Popped on a glitter card sentiment… and Voila…one quick  fun Holiday card.

Another really classy, quick card  you can zip through really quickly if you  need a last minute card.  I adjusted this in Design Space to accommodate a square base, but that is one of the great things about these cut files. they are so versatile, putting  your own spin on a basic template is so easy.

I just cropped this design and removed the score line to make it fit a square background. It’s cut on a Silver Glitter card stock and mounted on a black base.  Very quick and classy card which looks great with or without sentiments and embellishments.  This is definitely a timeless design that you can use year after year with so many variations… it will never get old.

Another Classy CAS card by Apetroae Stefan  “christmas-bells-over-the-edge-4”
…again I modified this to suit a square base, but this time I kept it more like the original template and the score line wraps around the back of the card about half an inch.

More glitter card and black… sorry, I love these high contrast color combos on simple cards.

Again no sentiment for me, but you could easily add one and swap out the black for some acetate, or another color.  Super quick to make, justa  quick cut, fold, tape to insert.. VOILA !!!  of course I didn’t forget to make you a card !!! *angelic face

And lastly.. for now at least… this super simple Poinsettia design.  Poinsettia Floral Card by Judith Henry-Grammys Designs

The cut file comes in 4 parts: base, background, flower and circle frame.

I went with another classy black and gold combo.  Love how this one turned out  🙂

I still have 11 more new cut files to go… so expect to see more of those  soon…  I love these quick and simple  designs, specially the over the edge ones, they work extremely well with my digital stamps  to create fun and interesting cards.

Have your elf a merry lil Kissmas….

I wanted to try something different, along the lines of some old photography pieces I did way back in the days when I had film and a darkroom.   I have always loved the Monochrome look with a splash of color.  To be entirely honest, I didn’t start off with the intention of making a monochrome type project….and my photography was a lot more Black and almost totally black and white with very little gray haha…. but I love this softer look too.

I was laying down some base shadow in a technique I like to use for color depth, but it was a lighter shade than I usually use and when I  wandered off  to make a cup of tea… it caught my eye as I went back into my craft space. I use the term “craft space” very lightly   haha.  As some of you know I was packing to move and  then not move so my crafting space is..  undergoing some changes lol.  If about 1 foot of workable space and a tonne of boxes and totes counts..I have a craft space.

Anywho as I looked at it, I came to the conclusion I really  liked the mono look for this image.  I had already colored the skin  but that was the only color at that point other than this gorgeous soft gray tone.  I added in a splash of color for the bells and foliage… randomly swirled glue around the edges and went crazy with this fun white glitter I bought last year and have been dying to use…. except whenever I want to use it, I can’t find it..and when I find it, I don’t want to use it haha.   Finally I found it AND wanted to use it.. so SCORE for the white glitter!!!

I popped this on a sheet of foam and then mounted it to this really cool silver glitter card I picked up in a 3 pack at the dollar store.  I love this glitter card so grab it whenever I see it in stock 🙂   it comes in 11×14 sheets  of gold, green and silver  and is fab for oversized cards and  a bit of glam.

CAAB House Warming Party Card

Well I can’t always keep my sense of humor under control… so when I saw this new image in the CAAB ( Cute As A Button) new releases..I just had to do it.

We’ve all heard the saying “Not enough room to swing a cat” when referring to small houses and apartments…. so this appealed to  my warped humor.  Of course being a cat woman type of character… one couldn’t possibly swing a cat anyway… but we could swing a bat *grin

….so here she is Catwoman who “couldn’t  swing a bat in here”  House Warming Invitation, my DT New Release project for May.  The inside front cover is perfect for adding in the party details.

I love the peekaboo cutout, it reminds me of the old  spotlights used to chase down the villains in the classic Superhero cartoons.  This card would be great for a villains and hero’s fancy dress  party invite too.  I had a lot of fun with this project, I hope you  like the results.

Scrapper’s Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project

Wow .. I’m still in shock that I got invited to join this team …. I love doing these challenges, so it was a fab surprise to find that invite in my inbox.  Thank you 🙂

So here it is .. my  first Scrappers Delights Fan Group Challenge Friday Freebie DT Project.  I have been neglecting my poor old Cricut Explore lately and getting caught up with other ideas and projects…. but I really wanted  to  use this cut file again, so here it is.  I hope you like this project, it’s really quite a simple card to make and  this cut file is so versatile. I’ve used it for a few different projects in the past… male and female.  I wanted to keep it relatively clean, so  the sentiment is behind the image, you can see it better in the second image

  • Card base is a CraftsUPrint cut file cup323867_1415 by Rae Carr.  This particular file has additional pieces that I didn’t use.  It’s cut on Dollar Store, glitter poster board card.  This was resized and cut on the Cricut Explore to make a 5×5 card.
  • Image is by Scrappers Delights and she is colored with a mix of Ranger distress pens, Zig Kurecolor and Zig Brushables from the Zig Memory System set..and a touch of Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust on the hair bands and slippers.  I also added some  blue Sakura Glaze on the hair for shine and texture.
  • Flowers are from Michaels
  • Sentiment is a die cut on blue Recollections card to match the trellis backing, cut on My Sizzix Big Shot.
  • Xyron Mega runner 1/4 inch adhesive

Club KennyK Facebook Challenge #1 1/15/16-1/30/16

This was a fun card to do…. ya’all know I love me some KennyK.

I started off with one of my practice sheets… colored with Chameleon, Zig KureColor, Ranger distress pens and a touch of Zig Memory system pens.  It’s printed on 110lb Card stock

Image is Chicos Chopper

Image was then measured up to a frame… and fussy cut for the emerging front wheel.   Slight cuts into the remaining image allowed me to slide it onto and over the edge of the frame and allow the rest to slide behind to be glued in place.
The frame and image were then mounted on a second piece of card for support and a double edged look, and then foam popped on a rectangular piece of adhesive foam sheet for height.

The framed image was then mounted on a card which I ran through a Darice striped folder, and then dry inked to give an industrial corrugated metal type look using white Memento ink.

The outer frame was inked to match and then 4 brads/studs added just for fun.

Card suitable for a variety of no sentiment till needed.  Would make a great card for someone just passing their Bike test  LOL…

Ziggyboard Challenge – Chalkboard Vinyl kits

Logo_r_seyZiggyboard chalkboard vinyl comes in a variety of  formats, precut labels and 12×12 sheets for use on die cutting machines like Cricut, Silhouette, and other popular brands. The vinyl can also be cut with scissors, punches, die cutters, paper cutters, and other crafting tools.

According to the product page, it is good for indoor and outdoor use too.

We were thrilled to receive 3 review kits from, which is part of the ImageAbility, Inc. family. I know this matters to some people too… All Ziggyboard sticker products are made in the United States.

There are allsorts of cool products in this line beyond the kit we got.  This one in particular caught my eye  Magnetic adhesive ziggyboard  and is going on my Christmas list to Santa. This would be awesome for organizing all of my metal dies.  I live in an apartment, so finding good storage solutions for all of our crafting stuff….well let’s just say it’s a challenge all in it’s own lol.

Talking of challenges….

Myself and 2 of our veteran message board members, NanaDonna and Deescraps all received a kit that contained:

(20)  12×12 inch sheets of matte black adhesive blackboard  vinyl.

A  silver fine chalk pen

A fine tip white chalk marker

A multi pack  of precut blackboard vinyl adhesive labels.

Now for the fun and games, as part of our review we decided we’d have a little fun with this project.  We agreed upon a mini challenge…. so our challenge is to make 3 gift items. Christmas is coming and  this is a great product to use with, or without kids.  But if you have kids, there are so many cool things they can make for friends, or grandparents etc.

We’ll each be doing our own separate projects and reviews too, but we figured a mini challenge would be a fun way to test the kits and do something practical and fun at the same time.  I’m really looking forward to seeing what the ladies come up with for the challenge ….and for their individual projects.

This is something I have never used before and it looks like something me and the lil man can have a lot of fun with together.  I love that my lil guy likes to craft, so anytime we can work on projects together is cool.  He is 3 and a half and at that perfect age where  he has no inhibitions about what goes where, or being bound by conventional ideas.. he’s a hoot to craft with!

I’ve already started on a couple of  the challenge projects, one is for the lil man and one is for hubby and me.  I haven’t quite decided on the 3rd yet….and even though I am making these for us, they would make really cool personalized gifts too.

There are so many cool projects on pinterest…. if you haven’t tried this adhesive blackboard vinyl yet, go check it out.

Check out our pinterest boards.

Sakura Glaze Pens…. wow, pretty impressed

Thanks to a tip from one of the ladies over on the Craftsuprint forum, I picked up a set of Sakura Glaze pens. I’d mentioned on there that I was still searching for the elusive clear pen for fine details. I ordered a set from Ebay as the seller offered a much better price than anyone I had seen and had free shipping.  My set cost me $9.50 and arrived this morning. Now I know I am sick, but I’m still breathing, which means I was opening those pens regardless lol.

I tested them out on a couple of scrap circles I had sitting around and I have to say, I am impressed.  The clear is a little glossy for what I wanted.. but it is definitely the closest thing I have found to what I want.  These pens come in a set of 10 , one of which is clear.. but you can buy the clear glaze pens separately too.  I just figured while I was testing it out I might as well get the full set. They have a slight raised feel to them, a little like powder embossing which is kinda neat.

When I feel better I will give them a run through my Cricut Explore and see how they perform, but if they are anything like the other Gelly Roll stardust pens I have from Sakura.. they will work a treat.

I can’t reiterate enough how much I like Sakura pens… I order my stardust pens in bulk packs..I like them THAT much lol.

This glaze set comes in a 10 pack which includes: a pinkish red, copperish orange, 2 shades of Green, 2 shades of blue, black, white, clear and a silver/gray color.
I tried the white on a piece of black card and on application it seemed very milky and clear.. so I thought I had picked up the wrong pen.  White and clear look very similar.  But once it dried it was  definitely white.

Big thumbs up for Sakura Glaze pens 🙂
