I would say this is the last craft haul for the year….

BUT.. Grandma just sent me a Joann Gift card lol.

I had a quick run through Michaels on Wednesday night and Hobby Lobby yesterday… I guess today it’s Joann day haha

anywho.. here’s a quick look at what I picked up, got some great deals.mini-spree

I finally got my 12×12 frame for my Brianna Blaster project…. I inked it up in black and brown last night  for an old distressed look using a Craftsmart Black Dye Ink pad and Ranger Tim Holtz Distress ink pads in Burlap and Walnut. Michaels don’t appear to be carrying  the larger ink pads anymore. Little man picked out a small wood frame for one of his projects.

I also picked up 4 packs of 6×6 canvas panels board for the lil guy to use with the Gelli Plate we just got.  In the Christmas  Sale  section we found a 3 pack of fondant rollers which will be fun to play with. they have 3 Christmas designs on them.

naught_strung_wmded_wipz

I grabbed a few reels of ribbon,  some Celebrate It Tempo sheer black…  and a skinny lace in green that I use for lacing up cards like this.

And then I also grabbed 3 sets of clear stamps.. all on clearance andstampendous_skaters 2 of  them have matching dies.  I have been wanting this Stampendous Poinsettia one and when I saw it down to less than $5..I had to grab it.  Then we grabbed this one for the little guy, it is another Stampendous  called Skaters also under $5

and lastly this little set by Inkadinkado Warm Wishes.

fern

I also snatched up a couple of wood mounted stamps, the Patient Puppy was also on sale for under $5 and the fFern….I got 50% off with my coupon.

Of course I had to stock up on Recollections card too since it is on the buy 5 for $10 deal again.

And to make matters even better the young lady also  tacked on a 30% off everything code for me too.  So that little haul from Michaels cost me just $66 instead of over $130 at regular price.

Then we have  Hobby Lobby… I got the two oversized sentiment dies by Momenta Believe & Dream on clearance for $5.99 each and  hubby and I each grabbed a set of the Chameleon pens  with the 40 % off coupons.  SCORE !  I have now completed my Chameleon set…   minus the fabulous case..which I would have loved.

..   but such is life.  $74  haul for only $46 .. can't complain at that.

Perfect packaging for small gifts and stocking stuffers

What a cute way to wrap small gifts… specially those standby gifts for unexpected visitors, or small tokens of appreciation to  delivery drivers, colleagues etc.

  • candy
  • cookies
  • silk scarf
  • perfume/cologne
  • stocking stuffers
  • Blind bag toys
  • jewelry
  • lipstick
  • tree decoration
  • cash
  • Craft Supplies  .. and so much more

This is a great one sheet cut design… only one seam to glue or tape; really quick to cut and assemble…   tie  off the end, stuff, tie off the other end… and decorate as desired.  I actually added a reinforcement band  to mine, for looks and because it will be holding something a bit bulky.  Of course you can make these in any size you want, you can supersize it by splitting the design and using two glue tabbed sections instead and cutting each one on a larger sheet.

Fab way to wrap up  paint brushes, crafters pens and pencils, ink pads, embossing powders, stamps and other small items.  I like to hide presents on the tree as well as under it, so this is perfect for people like me  who like to keep a few hidden presents in plain sight.  These look to be the perfect size for those seasonal stamps at Michaels which we usually grab for the little guys collection.  Fimo Polymer clays would be fun in something like these too… and I bet this would be fab for making small craft kit gifts for kids too.  So many uses 🙂

This is a CraftsUPrint file by Rae Carr  called “175 Christmas Cracker Box”  I cut it on a 12×12 sheet of Craft Smith from their Silver Foil pad.  This particular cracker measure 10 inches in length and  is about 2 1/4 inch  squared.  The main storage area before it starts to curve  in is approximately 3 and a half inches. But of course, you can modify the cut file dimensions to suite your needs..as I did by unlocking the file dimensions if needed.

rae_crackerboxI added in the green glitter card band and  some matching ribbon ties, a few bells and some die cuts …  very easy file to assemble and decorate… and perfect for those of  you who find wrapping paper and tape to be like attempting brain surgery lol.

Love this file, definitely one I will be using a lot next year…. I am already planning ahead for next years projects.. * sigh  haha.  The fun thing is because of the design it could be used all year round, not just Christmas..it kind of looks like a big wrapped candy.

One Crafty Kid and a Gelli Plate = Craft Hour Fun

We started our craft hour with some bubble blowing paint project to make background papers.. but that was short lived after his second time of sucking, instead of blowing lol. He gets so excited sometimes he forgets not to swallow.. so after two mouthfuls of paint, water and dish soap mix.. we decided we had enough of that idea for the night..and moved on to the Gelli Plate.

gelli6x6

I bought a Gelli Plate at the Blitsy Sleepover last month and we just got a chance to play with it. I say we, since I bought this because A: I was enamored with some gorgeous Gelli Projects I had seen and B: It looked like a fab craft product for my son who is 4 and a half and loves to craft too. And what a hit this one was…. before we even got the paint on it he was enamored by the feel of it, but add in some paint and a roller and he was in LOVE ! There is nothing my kid loves more than making a mess with Acrylic paint lol.

He was painting on canvas when he was one and I have a wooden floor so I’ve always been totally cool with letting him do things like this. As the grandparent were told when they said I was “BRAVE” ….aint nothing that can’t clean up in the washer, or the shower.

Anywho….I wanted to show these off… we tried a few different ideas for adding texture and designs. Stamps work really well on these plates and he has quite a cool little collection growing of wood mounted stamps. BUT …. this is the one I loved the most… his hand prints !! I picked out my three favorites and I am going to mat and frame these…

If you have kids, or grandkids who like to craft with you and you haven’t tried these… I totally recommend grabbing one, even if it’s just one of the small ones.  This time of year is perfect because all of the leaves are dropping here, so tomorrow we are going to go for a walk and collect some to try out on the Gelli Plate.

I’m off to see how big I can get.. because we definitely want a bigger one..and maybe a round one too. These are way too much fun for him and me.  I love doing my own backgrounds and  have been wanting to try my hand at some Mixed Media with him. After trying these.. I know they will be a big hit in this house, with us and his crafty pals on play dates.  I can’t wait to see what he wants to experiment with for textures.

Tools used were just Acrylic paint, a brayer, a gelli  plate and a kid ..if you don’t have a small kid.. someone will probably let you borrow one lol.

One happy mommy ….  with some new wall art for his gallery 🙂  We might even make some for the great grandparents.

Floral overlay border edge acetate card

This is one of the new  CraftsUPrint  cut files I picked up and made into an acetate panel card.  It’s another cut file by Tina Fitch called Swirl Sided Card and it is available in various cutting machine formats. I cut this on my Cricut Explore using Recollections Black card for the background and  110lb Index stock for the swirls.  I bet it would
look gorgeous with black velvet paper on White too.

I scored this at an offset so that I could add in an acetate window and bottom border, then added in some  small punched flowers with pearl centers.  Then I finished it off with a sentiment die from my recent Ebay Haul, again in 110lb white card stock.

cup_floraledge_wmd

What I love about these style of cut files is that they are very flexible and can be used in various ways, not just the way the original file comes.  I moved the score line and added a window to this one with a base strip.  But I also ran a quick test piece through my Cricut to show you  how you can switch it out from cut to write and achieve effects like this too.

This is  a Zig Embossing writer pen, they don’t fit the original  pen holders for the Cricut… but they work fantastic in the Chomas Creations  Adapters I have. This is the Marker Adapter and so far it has fit all of my Zig pens  from my Memory System Collection and the embossing pens. That means it also fits the Zig Chalk Writer pens….which I love.  You can see some pictures from past projects below this post. Please Note…. the Adapters do not fit the Explore ONE as it has a different holder and housing from the Original Cricut Explore, the Air and ..possibly the Air 2.  These adapters are available for a variety of machines, so if you have something other than an Explore… check the  site and see if your machine is one of them.  There is however an Engraving tip for the Explore ONE.

zig_emboss_writer

I didn’t powder up this sheet so you can see some stray embossing powder…. That was deliberate.

A. it was  a test piece… and B. It gives me the perfect excuse to  show  people who are new to embossing powder  what to expect…and  how to avoid this.   If you are embossing projects, you need to coat your paper with a resist prior to stamping, or writing with embossing inks.  You can buy special little powder puffs, but I find Johnson’s baby powder works just as well.   Simply dust a thin coating over your paper before you emboss.  I use an old makeup brush, or an old face clothe… sometimes just my hand.

zig_emboss_writer2
Anywho… just thought I would show you a few extras while I shared my latest card.  With all the new Cricut owners again this holiday, I thought it was a good time to show off  some of the fab cut files that are available to machine cutters and also some of the cool accessories and extras that you  may not have seen before.

Details on where to get the products used in this post are listed below.  If you have questions about something specific… feel free to add a comment  🙂

Essential item – the Crafter’s Toothbrush

I just got a fab new  Gina Marie Die today, well two actually and  a few more on the way lol…. but that is a whole nother blog post.  Today I want to introduce you to this one particular die.   Ok, so what has that got to do with Crafter’s Toothbrushes I hear you mumble… and what the hell is a “Crafter’s Toothbrush” anyway!!  something crazy, new and expensive that I just have to add to my craftroom??

Never fear….we shall get there…. be patient grasshoppers.  This is more for the new crafter’s, but may be useful to some seasoned veterans who haven’t already discovered it.

The new die I  got today is this one  “LACEY LATTICE RECTANGLE DIE SET”

gmd_latticeI have to admit I did get a good giggle from the description… not only do I love Gina’s Designs and her prices are fabulous… but she’s honest to a fault lol.

“PLEASE NOTE!  The inner lattice panel is VERY tiny and petite.  That means you could need to shim or use a precision plate and that there will be LOTS of little pieces.  I like to be honest about my products.  It is a beautiful set and cuts great you just need to have knowledge to make it work best with your machine.”

Now we all have those dies that have  the most gorgeous designs,  but take forever to weed out the offcuts…   well you might…. LOL .. NOT ME haha.

I have the almighty Crafters Toothbrush.

Ok enough messing around…   a quickie video to show you all how quick and easy it is to clean up these  gorgeous intricate cuts. My regular Sizzix cutting plates are shall we say a tad worn and as warped as I am….so you wouldn’t really see much, so I skipped right to the clean up.

I ran my new dies through my Big shot on said old and warped plates… no shims needed, using 110lb card stock.  I  popped them  out of the Big Shot, now pay attention… this really helps.. DO NOT pop them out of the dies.  If they pop out anyway.. not a huge deal.. but it’s quicker if you keep them in the dies. Specially if you didn’t get a good, clean all over pressure cut the first time round.

Flip that baby over die side up  and here comes the Crafters Toothbrush … old, new, electronic, Colgate, mickey mouse .. who cares… grab a toothbrush and  brush the back side of your dies…and watch those tiny pieces pop right out.

(no audio needed unless you have a toothbrush fetish ..I recorded this last night while everyone was in bed ..so no voice overs)

If you have a few reluctant ones…   you can used the  brush in an up and down motion to pop them out.  For those overly reluctant ones that didn’t get enough pressure, I find a quick re-run through my Big Shot will fix that right up… then flip and continue with your tooth brush.

When all of your weeding is done… pop the cut out of the die and there you go.. one clean die cut lacy piece..  nice n easy 🙂

Always keep a toothbrush in your tool  box…. 🙂

New Projects coming over the weekend with the new Gina Marie Designs dies  that just arrived in the mail 🙂

Happy Mail Time – New Gina Marie Design Dies

I just got some happy mail…  I ordered a  few new dies, something I am sorely lacking in.  I love the Gina Marie Designs dies, lots of variety and fab prices.  Shipping is very reasonable too

I picked up these 3 new nature dies, perfect for  the over-sized Christmas cards I have on my to do list  🙂  Can’t wait to try these out properly.

new_gina_marie_dies_June2016_wmd

I just did a quick test cut with these. I double up the card to get some clean cuts and some embossed effects and  layers.. these pine cone dies are very cool.  I inked up the left hand one to show what  it’s like with the two layers together. Center ones are more embossed, not cut through and the one on the right is like a negative of the left hand cone.  It had the top frame removed and only the off cuts remained for a textured cone. .. pretty dang cool.

Here are the links for anyone interested … and I’ll have projects coming up this month using these too.

Happy Mail…. Some Bling Bling!!

I love these nail art rhinestones… they are perfect for a touch of bling on cards.  I recently discovered that they also fit my  “My Little Paper World” corner dies perfectly too.  You can see that project  featuring a Conie Fong image here.  If you want some cheap bling and you aren’t worried about  waiting for it to arrive, these kits from Amazon are a great deal. I have a few more on the way, but the first set arrived today.  You can buy these individually if you have a specific need, but I wanted a mix of colors and shapes.. so I grabbed this 10 pack.

$8.99 for 15000 pieces, be warned.. great deal that these are… I am highly doubtful these packs contain anywhere near 15,000 pieces. But I’m not about to sit here and count them all LOL.  for what you pay, compared to the regular crafters supplies… I don’t think you will be disappointed at all.  Now these are  SMALL..  and I do mean small, so if you have problems handling small items.. I  highly recommend using some kind of tool with these.   a friend of mine sent me a picker upper thing and these literally suck up into the end of the tube almost exactly.. so if you use this type of picker upper, watch out for glue on the tip  when you place them 🙂
