Crafty Haul – Pick me up.

It’s been a crazy few months here and me and the little man decided it was about time to have a lil pick me up splurge.   I had an appointment today and lo and behold… it was bang right next door to Hobby Lobby, a new one we have never been to before.  But one we shall most definitely be going back to. Their clearance and sale selection was great…and even better…. the shopping spree was a gift.  Can’t beat that kinda gift 🙂

But it’s been a busy week all round so we had a little splurge to spoil ourselves and get ready to  get down to business with more new Abandoned Art Projects and Christmas gifts etc. We picked up a whole bunch of really great deals..so expect to see a lot of this in upcoming posts.

We’ll be sticking and stamping, coloring and woodburning and allsorts of craziness.  so many fun techniques to play with… he’s sure to have fun !

Check out this little pile of goodies.. Tim Holzt inks, stamps, stickers, some really cool Christmas tissue paper and ..I couldn’t resist this awesome paper pad by the Paper studio at 50 %.  there are a couple of extra son the pic that didn’t come from Hobby Lobby.. like the printable vellum and the Gina Marie dies and bling….and a bunch of clear stamps that I picked up.. but can’t show YET lol. And I have a shipment on it’s way over .. which I can’t wait to get and show you all…. but it could be a few weeks before that gets here.

But the best  part of todays haul…. my son, who is 5 … found a flower in the clearance section … and absolutely insisted we had to buy it … because he wanted to give mommy a flower and he thought I would like it.

he was wrong… I didn’t like it…

I LOVED IT!!!!

….. he made my insides go as gooey as chocolate brownie… It was one of those moments you just wish would never end. It’s not the greatest picture… sorry…. but this mommy is happy as a clam.  This is the most beautiful flower any man … or “little” man has ever given me…and it was offered with love,… not as a bribe, not as an apology … or any other reason I have ever had flowers given..it was given just  because he thought I would like it and it would make me smile.

..and I am still smiling  🙂

Vintage portrait style watercolored magnet

Well.. what a mix of goodies ended up in this project… I think everything but the kitchen sink lol

This is a new magnet framed with the Gina Marie Designs combo die piece you saw in a post earlier today…  looks a bit different now though LOL.  It had a few layers of Tim Holtz distress ink, followed by two colors of DecoArt Metallic Lustre, a touch more distress ink…. then 3 layers of clear embossing powder.

The image is “Lavish” by Rick St Dennis, which is one of 3 new ones in this style that I picked up last night.  She is printed on Canson Mix Media 9×12icon and colored with Gansai Tambi Watercolors using an H2o Brush.  I mounted the image to a piece of  COHAS magnet using a commercial grade double sided adhesive tape and then attached the frame with Zig 2 Way Glue.

This one will be joined by the other two images who will be turned into magnets too and will be joining my Abandoned Art bucket and abandoned in the coming months.  If you want to lean more about abandoned Art there are links to several Facebook groups on the side of this blog.  It’s all about sharing the happy!

Metal framed chalkboard sign…Cheers Easy!

This is one project that definitely won’t be going in the Abandoned Art box…  I’ll be hanging this one above my craft desk.  Not because it is a fantastic project.. but because it has sentimental value!  Cheers Easy is something my brother used to say.  Steve at Crafting Ability sent me a sample of the new Slate chalkboard vinyl to play with and I had been sitting on it waiting for the right project to come along.  It’s like the original Black Chalkboard vinyl that you can find on Cohas.com ( formerly known as Ziggyboard which you may have seen on various projects on the blog ).. but this one is a deep rich gray color and has a slight sating texture to it….and I am loving it.

The Cohas chalk vinyls cuts like a dream, clean up really nice and easy, so fabulous for signage which needs to be updated… but it’s also great for people like me who  can’t do cursive or fancy writing.  This particular one is just done with rubber stamps and chalk paint, but  you may have seen in previous posts where I have run this vinyl through my Cricut Explore and  written and drawn on it using Gelly Roll Pens, chalk pens and such.

Anyway… the ArtMinds metal plaque was a clearance item at one of my local Michaels.. under $3, I buffed the ornate edges with a DecorArt metallic Lustre Wax called “Black Shimmer” also on clearance at the same store…. that was $3.99 a pot and I picked up 6 pots in various colors.  Cut to size a piece of the Slate Chalkboard vinyl and applied that

… then popped on one of my favorite KennyK images from last year “Old time Bartender”. He is colored with a mix of Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor and Tim Holtz distress pens by Ranger.  I did him as a Print & cut on my Cricut Explore. with the intention of making him a 3D decoupage image.. but decided to go with a single layer in the end.

Fun quick little project  for anyone needing customizable signage..or just a fun piece of wall decor.

“Catch of the Day” fun fishing themed card

I picked up another fun new cut file in my latest traipse over at CUP,  Tri-Fold Scalloped Top Card by one of my favorite SVG designers, Rae Carr.
cup_fishies

I recently picked up some new Gina Marie Dies “Gone Fishing” and  I had  grabbed this fun image from Bugaboo Stamps called Girlz – wiggle the bait to go with them.  Well as it happens, I have been waiting for  just the right project to use the paper stack I won from DCWV a few months back.. and this was it!  It’s a gorgeous paper stack called Coastal, filled with all sorts of cool  card sheets.. including some pearl foiled and printed linen pages. cup_fishies2 cup_fishies3
I added in a dual stitched frame  using my Lil’Inkers dies and added the catch of the day chalkboard look using a Zig Chalk Pastel Pen.  The inside  net was created using the lattice portion of the Gina Marie Lacey Lattice die set I got a month or so back.  The fish was colored with Tim Holtz Distress ink pads, as was the chalk board frame and the nets and rod.

The base card was cut from a Craft Smith solid color card stack on my Cricut Explore and the image was printed on Canson Mixed Media, then colored with Chameleon Pens.

Adhesives for this project were Zig Photo Tape and Zig 2 way glue.

I was naughty….this was supposed to be my DT project for the new Bugaboo Stamps Challenge starting on the blog in January… but I was impatient to share it.  Soooo…. guess I’ll be doing another project this weekend lol.

Be sure to subscribe to the blog, or follow me on Facebook etc if you want to be alerted to the new challenge.  All you Bugaboo Stamp fans, get your creative juices flowing..  this one is exclusively for Bugaboo Stamps Projects and prizes are sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps every month.  Woo Hoo.. we love our Bugaboo Stamps, so the DT team are a bunch of happy little clams…. and ….we have a new DT  joining us for the Bugaboo Challenge too  🙂

Slightly off topic and I will be posting about this tomorrow  too.. I just had a quick peek  to see what new Gina Marie Dies are available and saw some fab deals on some Deep Red Rubber Stamps ..I was drooling over the vintage ones… specially at those prices.  They will be fab for my vintage/steampunk backgrounds.  AND for any of you old Cricut Explore owners who never got the Bluetooth Adapter... I also saw they have a handful of them available .. $10…… so if you always wanted one.. now’s the time to go grab one, they don’t have many in stock.

Acetate Tulip Border Card

Another one of the fab cut files I found on CUP and grabbed with my Crafty Bob Crazy 5 minute Game winnings is this “Border Edge Card 15” by Clive Couter, he has some great designs in this style and with a little nip and tuck they make the perfect borders for Acetate card. I have been wanting to try this for ages and when I saw his designs I knew they were exactly what I was looking for.

The CUP file was cut on my Cricut and then I used my trimmer to split the file in three pieces and the center part discarded. A 1/2inch score was put on the main panel to create the flap/hinge and the border was glue to the other edge of the acetate.

The image is by Cute As A Button “Wooden Shoes” and I knew as soon as I found this border, that this was the image I wanted to use for this card. She is colored with a mix of Chameleon, Zig Kurecolor and Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Pens.

This is my Inspiration Card over at the Cute As A Button Inspiration Blog this month… Thanks for checking it out 🙂

3/4 fold Christmas card

Really quick n simple 3/4 fold card that could be used for a variety of things….money card, gift card holder, or a fun 3/4 fold Christmas card… with matching envelope.

Image was printed on 110lb Georgia Pacific Index card, colored with my usual mix of Chameleon, Zig Kurecolor  and some Ranger Distress Markers…with a touch of Wink of Stella for some glam.
pixie_dust_wmdThe inside of the card was then lined with a glitter card stock.. nothing fancy, just dollar store card .. but it gives a  touch of glam and glitz to the card and strengthens the design for mailing if necessary.  The 3/4 edge was punched with a Martha Stewart Punch by the name of Aspen.  a co-ordinating strip was added to a matching envelope along with some matching snowflakes.

This image is a Scrapper’s Delights Image “Winter Elf Digi

I really like the Tim Holtz “Tumbled Glass”  pen for ice and snow effects and for adding a touch of color and shading to white fabrics etc. on images.

To turn it into a cash/gift card/ticket holder etc.. simply  glue/tape down the top and bottom edges of the 3/4 fold…and Voila…. insta pocket.

Ancient Egypt Pop Out Stepper Birthday Card

I decided against a Halloween themed card for this image …and went for something totally different.  The  “twist” was to do a pop out, or stepped card and I just happened to have a cut file for step cards that I had picked up last year from Rae Carr on Craftsuprint.  It needed a little modification to fit in with my Egyptian theme… but the file was exactly what I needed for this.

The front of the card is very unassuming, all the action is on the  inside.  This was one of my supersized cards… the card base and stepped insert were cut from 11×17 card..so  this resulted in a hefty 8.5×11 card…. Kewl !!!

The front was a printed 8.5×11 sheet that I colored with  a mix of Chameleon and Zig Kurecolor pens..and a touch of Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Ink pens.  The edges were distressed with Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads.  Very “rustic” coloring to keep in the ancient theme. The background was dry inked ( fat brush and inkpads)  for a worn and weathered look.
SD_FF_mummy_front_wmd

The inside stepper was cut to form a pyramid shape and was also dry inked to give a sandstone type look to it.  The lettering was done using  My favorite things, Die-namics Bottlecap dies. The palm trees were from another Scrapper’s Delights  collection and worked perfectly for this project.

SD_FF_mummy_stepper_wmd SD_FF_mummy_inner_wmd

I just cut the pyramid shape out of the palm image, so that it wasn’t bulky behind the pyramid.  The sky was also dry inked using Craft Smart ink pads.  The base was printed on white card and cut to fit the pyramid stepper base.

….so there we have it.. a quick, fun, old age humor card

 Supplies used:

11×17  110lb Neenah Index card for base and  stepper insert
8.5×11 regular inkjet paper for the cover image
Recollections card in muted tones for the lettering
8.5×11 110lb index card for the Birthday sentiment

Inside images printed on 8.5 x 11 110lb index card

Mummy – The Mummy
Palm Trees –  Jungle Palms

Colored with:

Chameleon pens

Zig Kurecolor ( full color range)

Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Pens

Oversized humorous Christmas Card for Tea Drinkers

More fun oversized cards… this one features “Mad Hatter” by Cute As A Button.  I have had my eye on coloring this digi since the first time I browsed the store.  Such a fun image  and a lot of fun to color…who doesn’t love the Alice in Wonderland’s Hatter?

I’m British and a total tea monster, I would be attached to my teapot intravenously if possible. I discovered pretty quickly after moving to the US that Electric Kettles were not the norm…and I had to find a solution to that problem REALLY quick.  I discovered that 12 cup coffee pots work perfectly for people like me lol.  I just throw in 2 Tea bags and off it goes…. stays hot without getting that nasty film on it like a traditional teapot too 🙂 Finding a coffee pot without a 2 hour cut off can be a challenge though lol.

I have to admit I have relegated a fair few coffee pots to the coffee maker in the sky over the last few years lol.  I’m a bit tough on coffee pots *sigh

So when I  went searching for a fun sentiment/quote for this image… I did a search for “tea” and up this one popped… PERFECT !!!  It is absolutely me.

I am not a huge fan of the whole big family celebration thing…. much to my IL’s disgust lol. I prefer to spend my holidays, specially Christmas just me and my hubby and son.  He is a lot like me and 18 adults all yapping at each other isn’t much fun for a little guy..or his mommy lol.

So when I saw this quote… well hell…. there it was ..  I had to do my oversized Christmas card.  I had just ordered some cool new dies that would go perfectly with it.  I must admit, personal preference…I think next time I would stamp the background in black, not white… but it still looks cool.

PhotoBomb – Smile for the birdies!

I loved this project…. not just because I like the card I made, but for the lasting memories associated with it.  My son; who just turned 4, is notorious for photobombing my projects when I am trying to photograph them for the blog.  If it’s not his face suddenly appearing in front of the lens… it’s one of his toys.  Last time I think I shared one of these, I think my project was photobombed by a transformer by the name of “Grimlock”.

This time I  literally got photobombed… by Bomb.. the black bird from the Angry Bird toys currently in happy meals at Macdonalds.
SD_Honey_Ruler_wmd

ok and now that he is a happy camper and his toy is now duly admired and photographed like a star…. let’s get to the project.  This is my DT card for Scrapper’s Delights featuring the new Friday Freebie Challenge image Honey Ruler .

Oh and before I forget….If you missed it, you can find the Scrapper’s Delights “Spotlight Series” post right here.  It’s a fun Q&A session with some fab artists/ designers and small craft business owners.  It runs the entire month of June and ends with an End of Series Giveaway… so be sure to subscribe, or follow my page on Facebook for updates.

I stamped my card base (which I believe was from a Recollections set) with a  clear stamp and black archive ink, then ran a swipe of Clear Wink of Stella over some of the flowers. Very subtle, but looks cool when it catches the light
