Guest Designer – Lil ‘ Man D – Thank You card and Bookmark

You may have seen  my posts on Facebook last week about my lil man and his first watercolor project…. well he was at it again tonight  🙂

My little man was given an early birthday present last weekend by a lady who works with hubby, so this is her Thank You card and a little book mark for her to use in her Bible, or other reading matter.  Now it goes without saying, since he is only 4 …. that he had a little help …SURPRISE !! lol.  But the painting is all him.

He may be a crafty wee soul, but  this mommy isn’t ready to let him lose  with a laminator and glue all by himself .. my sanity is questionable at the best of times .. but not THAT bad haha.  Unlike someone we won’t mention by name who’s grandson glued himself up trying to apply “lotion” to his legs whilst visiting her craft room last week lol…. sorry.. I am still giggling over that one .. my bad.

The images he colored are :

Image #13 – Heart Ants – by Sasayaki Glitter & a section cropped from Pure Prairie Bouquet by Power Poppy.

The card and bookmark were colored using Gansai Tambi watercolors and a Zig Kuretake H2o brush.

The card  is a hot pink 5×6.5″ from a multicolor pack at Michaels
A background layer of rough cut 65lb black Recollections card from the value packs
The image is printed on Canson Mix Media Paper on my Epson Eco Tank and also had a rough cut edging. I added the sentiment “There is beauty in creation” and a border to the image before printing.  This was also foam popped on a Darice adhesive foam sheet and attached using a double side tape. The card layers were  attached with Zig Photo Tape and the Sentiment which was a cheapie import die was attached with Tombow Aqua.

The Book mark is backed with a light tan 65lb card  with a hint of a border showing behind the image cut from the front, and I attached a tassle from a value pack at Michaels. I added a cute little bead  that I got  in a happy mail package from Francesca at Cute As A Button when she very kindly shared her destash items with the DT team 🙂  It says “Always” on one side and “Believe” on the other… pretty appropriate for a Bible Bookmark.

I hope you like it

🙂 One Proud Mommy

KennyK “Sexy Cupid” Gift Box

I was having a moment…!!! lol

I wanted to play with the new Mambi sheets that I picked up in the grab bag I mentioned in a previous haul post..soooo

This is the Mambi Paper, on a  cardboard box, one of the ones you pick up at the craft store to decorate. It  has Kenny K’s “Sexy Cupid” printed and then colored with Chameleons Pens.. and then die cut with a Gina Marie Designs die, “mini heart lace square set”.  I added smaller matching square panels to all 4 sides and then had a scattering of hearts from a Fiskars border punch in reds and pinks.

I used Zig Photo Tape to attach the paper elements &  pink velvet ribbon and  Tombow aqua to attach the bows and rhinestones.

This is the 3rd of the mystery DT projects for the current Crafty Awesomeness Challenge which is sponsored by KennyK stamps  this month.  You still have a few days left to enter….so come on over

Layers, layers and more layers … & that was just the background!

If you ever have an idle moment and have never tried this.. you should give this a shot lol. This will keep you out of mischief….and so will reading this epic length War ‘N’ Peace blog post haha.

7 layers for the frame, tag on another one if you include the fancy corner.. 2 layers for the butterfly and another 6 layers for the  bouquet…. THAT’S A LOTTA LAYERS lol.

But when it really comes down to it.. the worst part is getting everything on straight, oh and deciding which flowers come  to the front and need the most layers lol.   I have to say of all the 3D projects I have done, this image was probably the easier  when it came to  figuring out how to cut the layers.

7 Print and cut sheets on my Cricut later…  and I have the start of my card.  I colored one completely, I like to do that as a reference when I come to build the actual project… plus it gives me a colored piece to use on another project later ..score!

So I colored one… then started  working out my layers while the Cricut was cutting two silhouettes out for sandwiching between the bottom two layers.  Normally I pop my 3D projects with Darice adhesive foam sheet, but I wanted this one to be a bit more subtle…so I sandwiched a few black sheets in for a little additional depth. The final layer of a single flower is missing off this photo.. DOH

pp_3d_layers_wmd

Once I had all my  Cricut cuts done, I started to hand cut away the pieces I didn’t need on each layer.  When I am doing a one off project, I just fussy cut by hand after cutting the main image.  If I am doing multiples I make cut files for my Cricut.  So I fussy cut  my top 5 layers  and then started to color each layer, starting with  the  top.  when I use Darice foam I tend  to to color around the edges of  the  layer below a bit so it won’t show  when assembled..but with subtle layers like these I just  ink up the white edges with a marker.

Once I had it all trimmed up and colored.. next came the hard part… what to mount it on. Now I  like to take a photo, or scan and import it into my graphics program at this point..for several reasons.  A: I like to be able to grab a cuppa and sit back and just look at it and see where I missed blending, coloring etc… for some reason I have a more critical eye  when viewing it that way. B: I like to play around with layout ideas and rather than waste time cutting and trying ideas and potentially wasting a lot of  card…  the girls on the message board will tell you.. me and pattern paper .. not a good mix lol.  I envy you ladies who can pick and mix and match patterns and colors with ease.  I am not sure if it’s my limited choice of papers, or just that it’s not  ever been my taste..but  good lord it’s like pulling teeth lol.

pp_3d_bwcomp

I started off simply by  putting my original coloring on a white  piece of card and the 3D layers on a black piece… but liked them both for different reasons.. so that was no help lol. So my next move was layers and frames/borders.  I just kept tweaking and adding borders to my image in a graphics program till I started to get a look I liked.

This was my digital rendering

pp_3d_framed_ty_wmd

Once I had a basic idea of how I wanted the frame to look…. that is when I grabbed my cutter and some black and white card and started cutting all those layers.  When I got them all cut, I  took a sheet of 11×17 white card and scored it to make my card base and started layering on the cuts to build the frame (unglued at this stage).  Then it happened…. for some reason it just felt flat, so there I was digging around in my paper cabinet looking for my Black and white collection.  Funnily enough the polka dot paper is the first one I tried … 4 patterns later.. yup I was back to Polka Dots lol.  It just seems classy to me, I did a curtain fold card last  year  in the polka dots and it looked great… so dots it was!

I attached that to the card base with a half inch overlap  at the top, which gives a nice neat look to the top and back of the card. and then came that  time … yes THAT time…  the one where  I always end up gluing all my frames down  skewy.  I blame it on my computer glasses, they aren’t designed for crafting haha.  Just as well for the most part I like to  have my frames tilted on projects lol.  But for this one I needed straight and centered and all that fun stuff…. It’s not perfect, but I think it came out pretty good.  I used my paper cutter to help keep me aligned…yay for paper cutters!!

Ok so all the base layers were on, the flowers layers were all cut, colored and assembled… so on they went.  I had an idea to add the butterfly, but wanted to do a ghost layer. So I actually cut two at once so that the black layer wouldn’t cut all the way through, it is more like a solid embossed layer.  Sometimes if I want to be funky, I do this  double layer cut so the  cutouts from one meld into other layer for a two tone embossed look… it’s kinda cool. Unpredictable at times so a touch of glue is necessary haha… but still looks cool and worth the extra effort.  I’ll maybe show that another time if anyone is interested.

So there was my butterfly…but where to pop it…. top right or bottom left????   I couldn’t decide so asked hubby…. his response… and I had to laugh.  “Top right, I always see Butterflies at the top of flowers… not at the bottom”  He is such a practical wee soul at times, no artistic license or sense from that direction lol.  So  on it went..where butterflies apparently should be lol.

pp_3dframed_watermarkedI didn’t have a particular recipient or occasion in mind, so I am  leaving that blank for now… hence the big space on the left.

So I thought I was done..YAY me.  But  the more I looked at it as I took the photos for this post… I couldn’t help but feel something was missing, it just didn’t seem quite balanced.

Enter Sammy and her fabulous Corner dies to the rescue.  I just happened to have that one single corner cut in my  cuts organizer… BINGO… now I am done!

Oversized East Wind Humorous Birthday Card…

I went trolling through Etsy’s Digi Artists the other night in search of something “new” and different.  I needed to get back to my roots a bit and stray off the “cutesie” path for a bit. AND….I came across a couple of Artists, one of which I had heard of, but never colored…..and one I hadn’t heard of. Both of which had Images that instantly appealed to me, so I grabbed one from each to see if they worked with my grungier style… Here is the East Wind image “Aurora Warrior”.

What can I say… I am a bit of a tomboy and have always loved the “tank girl” tom boy thing.  You don’t have to be a Barbie, to be Sexah!
ew_oldage_wmded
This is an oversized card… I love making these 6 x12 inch cards..so much room to play and perfect for those  employee Birthdays where half the office have to sign it.  Anywho, there she is in all her glory.

I colored  the image with Chameleon Pens, Zig Kurecolor, Ranger Distress Pens and a touch of Marvy Detailer…. on a sheet of Canson Mix Media.

She is bordered with a dual stitched rectangular frame by Lil’Inkers on Recollections black card and the image was partially fussy cut to bring elements up and over the frame.  The main image lays behind the frame.  I love doing these up and overs..<< None technical term.  I must do a quick tutorial showing how I do them one day.

The green striped paper is one I made in PSP and printed out on a white 110lb card stock and added a thin black frame for contrast.

The sentiment is one straight from my own warped mind and inspired by the image. As regular visitors know, I like to have fun with my cards. The letters are cut on 110lb white card using a Bottle Cap Alphabet Die by MFT ( My Favorite Things) on my Sizzix Bigshot.

..AND NOW….

I want to give a big shout out to fellow card maker and blogger Shannon Abblitt  who has constantly amazed and inspired me with her fabulous cards… and who exposed me to so many Cool East Wind images, that I just had to give them a try.  Thanks Shannon 🙂

Scrapper’s Delights “Esmeralda” You Rock card

I’ve been on quite a roll since last night… I guess getting my groove on to Kylie Minogue on Iheart Radio in the wee hours…. with wireless headset of course, has it’s rewards.  I have made 3 cards since Midnight and colored up the image for a 4th.

The great part is..I love them all.

We’re all our own worst critics and I am no different…so for me to color up 4 images and turn out 3 cards in a row that I love… is SWEET !!!!! specially since I was using a totally different paper from usual.

…and here she is, this is “Esmeralda” by Scrapper’s Delights

Everyone needs a little Bling Bling ….and a bot!

I was playing around with the new corner dies I got and some bling I bought last year .. figured I’d just goof off and have some fun.  Well as usual I got photobombed while trying to take pictures of the finished card.  My son just turned 4 and is notorious for photobombing my cards…either him, or his toys LOL.

As soon as I get set up, someone is there getting face time !

Tonight it was Boulder, his one step transformer.  He is rather photogenic I must say LOLbling_bot

Here is a progress picture , I wanted to show off the corner die cuts with and without the inserted bling.  I just happened to get lucky and these die holes were exactly the right fit for the bling I bought last year on Amazon.  I believe these are actually nail bling.. but they work great for cards and they are super cheap.  Just don’t expect them in a hurry, these really do take the slow boat from China… literally.

bling_bear

Here’s a close up of the corner with bling inserted.  I bought several packs.. some clear and some colored, so I used a matching lilac stone too.  And of course as you can see around the card, I also bought shapes.nal_bling

Here’s the finished card.. “bling blinged” and minus a bot.  Supplies are listed below.bling_bear_2

KennyK “Devilish Donna” Birthday Card

kkrubbers

This card features the fabulous “Devilish Donna”,  one of the 3 clear stamp that I got in the mail a week the other week.  Absolutely love these stamps, the quality of the images is top notch ….and for me that is huge because I am a big digital stamp user and used to high res quality images 🙂 Now admittedly it’s a bit of a shock to the system for someone like me, who tends to “go big or go home”  LOL.  Suddenly I am size restricted…and yes I know..size isn’t everything.

But it does take a bit of getting used to for me coloring at a smaller size.  Usually when I print my KennyK’s out they are at least 150-200% bigger than a physical stamp.. heh.. what can I say.  Now the funny thing about this one is,  I colored her by hand then imported her into my graphics program to do the  background and text ….and then  printed her smaller than the original stamp.  Go figure !

Devious_Donna_wmdfnl

No matter how many time I try to photograph this dang card… I just can’t seem to get a clean shot. It has so much going on and metallics, specialty papers… *rolleyes.  So I aplogize for the not so fab quality of the pics on this one…

devilish_peek

I have the original stamped and colored version, which is going on another project, hopefully before the end of the month.

_hells _belles3wmd

And here is the digitally manipulated background and text.

This was printed out on some fab Polysilk Adhesive paper, which is almost impossible to find now.  I have had this paper for.. hmm  at least 13 years.

I have a bunch of fab specialty papers from that time that I just can’t seem to get hold of anymore and even though some of them are available for wholesale, I am not finding them for sale in the US on a retail level  :/

Bloobel Stamps “Heart Moustache” Oversized Card

When I say Oversized… he is OVER sized lol. Just as well no one is getting their hands on this one, or I would have a heck of a job finding an envelope for him… LOL

This card measures in at a whopping 7 by 11 inches ….and I love it.  I left room at the bottom for a sentiment…. or humorous quote, when I decide what I want on there.

I  think this was the first Bloobel digital stamp that I ever laid eyes on a few months ago…and I have been coveting him for months.  I finally bit the bullet and grabbed him last week.  There is something very Dapper about this “young” man that just appealed to me and my British background.

Anyways …. I was good this time and actually took some progress pics too, I really wanted to show off these fab papers before they got covered up in layers.

I will add a list at the end of all the products used…. but here he is…. “Heart Moustache” in all his vintage “dapper” glory.

Bloobel_Dapper_1_finishedClick on the thumbnails below for a closer look at the project progress.

Printed on Georgia Pacific 110lb Index Card Stock
Edges inked and smudged with Ranger “Tim Holtz” Walnut Distress Ink

Background paper

Striped Velvet Paper  –  This is an SEI Velvet paper from  craftadvantage

Vintage  paper –  hand made using Ranger Archive Ink on Recollections Card Stock, edges distressed with Ranger “Tim Holtz”  Walnut & Fossilized Amber.

Stamps are from my random collection of new and used stamps and I used too many to list, so don’t expect names ..sorry.  If you see a specific stamp  you want details on I will do my best to share that info. Some were from Michaels, some were from Ebay.   Some of the Ebay ones were unmounted, so I don’t know who made them….or what they are called.

Wrought Iron effect corners were done by stippling Ranger clear embossing ink on a sheet of paper with an old 2 inch paint brush and then embossed with Recollections Clear embossing Powder.

Main card base is from a pack of 11×14 Poster Board from a dollar store, scored and folded.

Vintage and velvet layers are mounted on Darice adhesive foam sheets

Glues  – I used a mixture of Tombow Aqua, Xyron Mega runner and a hot glue gun

Well I think that about covers it, if I forgot anything ..fee free to leave a question in the comments  🙂  I hope you liked the card..it was a fun one to make.
