Well there was a bit of everything in today’s crafty fun… Magnets, resin, Velvet paper, stickers, cut files, glue, enamel dots…and some window cling. Not too bad for someone who hasn’t crafted for a while lol.
I was having fun with some new CUP files. These cut files make great backgrounds and stencils for allsorts of projects.
Lizzie Mayne’s Gears & Cogs Frame Card …starting off with Captain Locke by KennyK, she’s a digital coloring I did a while back printed and mounted on silver foil paper and then a Cohas Magnetic Sheet cut on the Cricut. I only used the front portion of the card file… but this comes in square and rectangle as full card files.
Lizzie Mayne – Cornish Grid 3. I had a lot of fun with this Black on Black project..Cohas Magnet Sheet, Black SEI Velvet paper, Black glitter resin Skull and some Black Gina Marie Designs enamel dots. Nothing like mixing it up a lil’ haha.. but a pain in the hoo ha to photograph an all black project with various finishes haha
Lizzie Mayne – Dhalia Flower Mat Layer Stencil. This one was fun..I cut just one of the 3 layers in this cut file using that fab velvet paper. Mounted it on card, then colored it with Zig Clean Color pens and a touch of Chameleon Pens. I cut that out and sliced it in half …stuck it on this plain black envelope and then stamped some fun typewriter and text stamps in a faded white ink.
Just a fun way to decorate envelopes if you are sending a hand written letter, or just need an envelope and don’t want to be bo-ring!
Lizzie Mayne – Brick Wave Matt Layer Stencil. Such a fun card to make.. it’s the perfect kinda project to do with the kids, or grandkids High contrast, super fast, super easy… cut file, some glue, envelope and a card and some fun stickers… and voila.. one High contrast cute card ready to go. Makes a fun card for any occasion.
Judith Henry- Lattice Hearts Embellishments. I cut this heart in Cricut Window vinyl and will be putting it on my new car… this is just one of the hearts included in the cut file. I love how well this vinyl cuts on intricate designs and fine lines.

Just a quickie card I made up last week using a new cut file from CraftsUPrint designer Lyn Simms. This is Bows 2, the second set of bow cut files I have purchased from Lyn and I just love this stars design. These bows are gorgeous when cut on the SEI Velvet Paper I have, because it flexes so well on that paper for gorgeous curves and a luxurious effect.
I added the Polka Dot layer to a plain black card base and then popped a black flower in the center from a Michaels bargain bin pack. A really quick card with lots of impact….
Are you ready for Box 3? The new box is SUPPLIES…. and we all need those right?
The contents of this box are going to cost $34.99 and are valued at $89.91 …. Ok so ..what is in the box.. by all accounts from what I can see.. so guarantees….BUT.. 2 rolls of window cling, 3 rolls of glitter vinyl, a roll of adhesive foil, 3 pearlescent paper sample packs in neutral, pastels and bold colors. All things I don’t have and really would like to play with… hurry up pay day. Quantities are limited so grab it while you can.
Have you seen the Cricut Mint Machine Bundle…? check out that price and all the goodies that come with it. I am so coveting the new Explore 2… I would love one of these. If you are totally new to Cricut, which is rare nowadays… but always a possibility.. There are so many cool things you can do with these machines…way beyond what Cricut even show you. Card making, scrapbooking, home decor, kids crafts, personalized clothing, gifts, packaging…… just the tip of the iceberg.
We had one member on the message board who made all of the signs for his re-enactment group.
Me.. I bought mine to make custom photo mats then got hooked ..and there is still a tonne of things I haven’t even tried yet.
One of my favorite things about my Cricut is the aftermarket Adapters I bought, which sadly are not available for the ONE.. but they are available for the Explore, Explore Air and Air 2 and those are FANTASTIC. these are pen adapters for the Circut by a company called Chomas Creations and they allow you to expand the range of pens you can use in your Cricut. For people like me..that is HUGE…it has opened up a whole new world of potential projects that I wouldn’t normally attempt because my handwriting is terrible and my calligraphy skills.. non existent lol. But not just that.. that means I can draw with so many more pens than before…
One of my favorites and one of the most popular pins on my pinterest page is this.. the powder embossing done on the Explore. Yup.. POWDER EMBOSSING drawn on the Cricut.
This allows me to take designs and instead of cutting them, I can draw them and emboss them.. LOVE LOVE LOVE this. There are other embossing pens, including one I made myself.. but these Zig Embossing pens coupled with the Chomas Adapter.. SWEET !!!
Anyone who is a regular on here knows how much I love my Zip pens.. and most all of them will work in my Cricut with the adapter… with the exception of the big chalk pens. But that is ok…. because I can outline on the Cricut then trace over it with my bigger pens when I want to do chalk signs. Way better than anything I could ever achieve by hand.
And of course.. the .. how could I not share what is probably my favorite paper to use on the Cricut.. this stuff is AWESOME.
It cuts beautifully, looks and feels amazing and gives a little extra something something to projects.
These projects were done with Black Velvet paper, but it comes in a bunch of other colors.. including white, which I love to print and color digital stamps on.
Did I mention stencils… check out this etched glass beer stein I made a couple of years ago using a stencil I made and cut on the Cricut. This was for one of our message board challenges. I Just cut my stencil from vinyl, slapped it on..slapped on etching cream and voila.. a fun beer mug 🙂
…so by now, if you are new to the Cricut….you are probably beginning to realize the Cricut can do a lot more than just use images on cartridges and on Design Space Access…. Yup you can upload your own designs or designs purchased elsewhere. Card templates, toppers, digital stamps. I’ve got a confession… I don’t subscribe to Access, I own probably 10 cartridges.. and I use my Cricut to make a lot of cool projects. So if the price of Access, or the designs not being to your taste is something that was holding you back .. never fear… this machine still has a lot to offer.
Print and Cut is fantastic, and when the DS3 ( Design Space update) comes out soon… it’s going to be even better. I for one.. can’t wait. DS3 has so many cool new features… admittedly there are still some things I would love to have added on… because I am used to having them in my graphics programs.. but it’s not a big deal to do it externally and then upload them.
Check out some of these fun projects done using Cricut Print and cut…

I love how this one turned out … this is another one of my CraftsUPrint cut files from a recent purchase.
I used the single panel for this design and cut it from SEI Black Velvet Paper. I adhered it to a sheet of Canson Mix Media and colored the panel with Zig Clean Color markers I trimmed it to size and inked the edges. I made a 5.5×8.5 card base with 110lb card stock with a black boho cut layer and a red and white polka dot layer and popped the image topper on that. I added a corner die cut by My Little Paper World.
What I love about this design is that the negative left after the main cut on my Cricut Explore is equally stunning and would be perfect for another project, or to make a matching envelope. I hate wasting paper.. but specially this Velvet lol..so it’s fabulous for this type of project..
I don’t know why exactly, but I loved this design the minute I saw it and had to grab it. This is one of my recent CUP cut files by Judith Henry called “Seasonal Tree Silhouette”
This is a super simple card… I just took the design, cut the card base and inked it up in this old letter style background using a couple of text stamps I have. I added on the green foliage layer which is cut from 65lb Recollections green card and then popped a beautiful velvet paper cut tree on top using black SEI velvet paper (see below) which you can pick up at Michaels in black or red. Velvet paper is great for these intricate cuts, the paper cuts like a dream on my Cricut Explore and I love using this. Add on the fact it just feels so dang cool and adds a little extra something something to your cards. The design does come with birds too, but I chose not to add those to this project… but you can see them on the original design.
This is one of my latest cut file purchases ..isn’t she cute. I decided to go with a bold contrast look and chose silver glitter for the card base, an acetate window and black velvet paper over 110lb card stock to create this cute card. The Fairy topper was cut on the Cricut Explore from a CraftsUPrint cut file. The texture on this card is quite cool…. smooth acetate, fine textured glitter card and then the lush velvet… makes for a great tactile card.
I wanted to play with the new Mambi sheets that I picked up in the grab bag I mentioned in a previous haul post..soooo
This is the Mambi Paper, on a cardboard box, one of the ones you pick up at the craft store to decorate. It has Kenny K’s “Sexy Cupid” printed and then colored with Chameleons Pens.. and then die cut with a Gina Marie Designs die, “mini heart lace square set”. I added smaller matching square panels to all 4 sides and then had a scattering of hearts from a Fiskars border punch in reds and pinks.
I used Zig Photo Tape to attach the paper elements & pink velvet ribbon and Tombow aqua to attach the bows and rhinestones.
I picked up a bunch of new cut files last night ..and despite the shenanigans of the day….
..for those of you not on my Facebook.. 50 degree drop in temps, broken window all in one day… not fun
BUT … despite all that I did actually get to knock out some quick last minute cards.
These are so quick and easy to put together and very quick CAS, clean and simple cards …and the files are so easy to tweak to suit your needs.
so here you go.. I have a few more in progress… but here are the 4 I knocked out earlier. I’m having a glitter card session, for a little holiday glam. Cut Files are from CraftsUPrint Designers.
This one is a “bow” cut file by Lyn Simms. It’s a 3 piece cut file, which comes in various formats. Mine is a SVG file and I did mine on black Velvet Paper. It has a soft flexible feels to it so won’t get damaged in transit. This velvet paper cuts like a dream on the Cricut Explore and just looks so cool.
I added in a black and Green contrast strip which I ran through a striped Darice embossing folder on my Big Shot.
Added in a black and White floral pattern from my Recollections Black & White paper pad. Mounted it all on a basic Recollections card from a multi pack.
Popped on a glitter card sentiment… and Voila…one quick fun Holiday card.
Another really classy, quick card you can zip through really quickly if you need a last minute card. I adjusted this in Design Space to accommodate a square base, but that is one of the great things about these cut files. they are so versatile, putting your own spin on a basic template is so easy.
I just cropped this design and removed the score line to make it fit a square background. It’s cut on a Silver Glitter card stock and mounted on a black base. Very quick and classy card which looks great with or without sentiments and embellishments. This is definitely a timeless design that you can use year after year with so many variations… it will never get old.
Another Classy CAS card by Apetroae Stefan“christmas-bells-over-the-edge-4”
…again I modified this to suit a square base, but this time I kept it more like the original template and the score line wraps around the back of the card about half an inch.
More glitter card and black… sorry, I love these high contrast color combos on simple cards.
Again no sentiment for me, but you could easily add one and swap out the black for some acetate, or another color. Super quick to make, justa quick cut, fold, tape to insert.. VOILA !!! of course I didn’t forget to make you a card !!! *angelic face
The cut file comes in 4 parts: base, background, flower and circle frame.
I went with another classy black and gold combo. Love how this one turned out 🙂
I still have 11 more new cut files to go… so expect to see more of those soon… I love these quick and simple designs, specially the over the edge ones, they work extremely well with my digital stamps to create fun and interesting cards.
Ok..so who is ready for some Cricut Deals? If you are totally new to Cricut you are in for a treat…. but I would imagine most all of you are already well aware of the Cricut Explore range of cutting machines.
The possibilities are endless… wedding decor and invites, Vinyl decals, Tshirt decorating, card making… home decor, gifts.. whatever you are into. There are so many projects on this blog that include the Cricut Explore’s functionality .. like the 3D layered image mounted on a slate base… or the card projects, scrapbook pages and framed art. I can cut, write and draw.. and if you like specialty pens… you can do fab things with fabric pens, embossing pens and more.
This machine cuts velvet paper, vellum, shrinkydink, card, vinyl and so many more crafting media .. and the new upgrades to Design Space that are coming… oh baby. I am so excited … and did I mention the Cricut Explore Air 2 that just came out? I have the original Expression and an Original Cricut Explore… but this Air 2 …. oooh lllllaaaa la.. yes please !!!
Here’s a list of the upcoming deals and coupons you can expect for Black Friday…. I will add more and some Cyber Monday deals in the next day or so.
Cricut Refer A Friend Program – Refer a friend to Cricut – friend gets $25 off an Explore machine, referring customer gets $25 digital coupon code when their friend purchases an Explore machine. Not applicable on Explore Air 2 machines. Ends 11/30
Some of you caught a WIP look at this on Facebook, but here she is.. all finished up and matted, popped on foam and overhanging the stitched frame.
She’s colored with Chameleon Pens and a touch of Zig Kurecolor and Marvy Detailer. sections of the image were cut in to overlap the frame while the main image remained behind the frame. I am sure it has some fancy technical name, but heck if I know what to call it haha…I just know it’s cool. A couple of the smaller detached details were fussy cut and added to the frame where they should be in the original.
Both layers are foam padded for depth and the image is printed on Velvet Paper…. combined it gives the card a lush soft feel.
Links and supplies listed below for anyone interested.
First off a close up through my Magnifier light to show off that lush velvet texture. Traditional blending styles will not work with this…. so if you are the type who has to blend to perfection, this is not the paper for you. It works great with pencils too, but it does have a soft grainy effect look to it….so it may not suite everyone. Me….I LOVE this paper… it suits my style and tastes perfectly.
..and here is the finished card, Very CAS ( clean and simple ). I don’t like to add sentiments to cards till I plan to use them; unless I already know who the recipient is, or the occasion. Quite often I just want to use it as a note card, so I keep them sentiment free. I’m sure you have probably noticed that I am not a big fan of making overly fussy cards either and prefer to highlight the image and in some cases humorous text. It’s just my style….
..anywho .. there she is… my Autumn Kidz. I love these muted colors which is funny because hubby and I have argued color schemes and furniture since the day he moved in. He is all about the browns… and I am all about the black furniture lol.
Something I never mention, my scissors. LOL I confess I do not own any “craft” scissors except the little pair that came with my Cricut tool kit. I actually do most of my intricate cutting with.. erm.. hair dressers scissors lol.
I have an old pair of Triumph Mastercolor scissors from back in my UK days… these must be at least 20 years old and have NEVER ever been sharpened lol. LOVE these scissors. I have another set I use too… but I’d have to dig them out to figure out what they are lol.
